Rick Hurd is a breaking news reporter for the Bay Area News Group and has spent nearly his whole life and career in the East Bay. He has covered crime, public safety and court proceedings since 2011. Before that, he was a national baseball columnist and A’s beat writer during the “Moneyball” era. He started in the industry in 1990 and is a graduate of Chico State University with a BA in communications. Away from work, he has coached baseball since 2008.
