LEEDS 3 WIGAN 3

(Wigan win 4-2 on pens. After extra-time, 2-2 at 90 mins)

DAVID HEALY and Rob Hulse missed penalties to ensure weary Wigan went through 4-2 on penalties to earn a fourth round trip to Manchester City.

Paul Jewell's side had complained the replay should be put back after playing West Brom in the Premiership only 48 hours previously, but after taking the lead three times in normal time they came through in the shoot-out.

Healy cancelled out Andreas Johansson's opener at Elland Road before the Northern Irish striker scored from the penalty spot to equalise after Jason Roberts had netted a fine individual goal for Wigan.

Wigan retook the lead - again - in the 103rd minute when Roberts got in front of Simon Walton to head home Kavanagh's cross.

Leeds drew level again in the pulsating tie when Gary Kelly hammered home a dipping shot from 25 yards four minutes from the end of the extra time.

Wigan took the lead in the 24th minute through Swedish international Johansson.

John Filan's goal-kick was flicked on for Roberts to send Johansson away and when his initial shot hit the post, he knocked home the rebound.

Rob Hulse had a hand in Leeds' equaliser four minutes before half-time and when his header from Kelly's corner was blocked by Leighton Baines, Healy hooked home the rebound.

Wigan regained the lead five minutes into the second half through Roberts, who took Graham Kavanagh's cross and with his back to goal, turned Kelly and fired into the bottom corner.

Leeds hauled themselves level on 64 minutes when Matt Jackson handled Kelly's corner to give away a penalty and Healy slotted home the spot-kick.
