Arsenal and Newcastle will be aiming to gain a major advantage in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi final tonight (January 7) when they meet at the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta will be looking at the home leg as a chance to move the Gunners into pole position to reach the final, with the second leg set to be played at St James' Park on Wednesday, February 5. Arsenal head into the clash off the back of a 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday in a game that saw the north Londoners suffer a firm blow to their title hopes.
Eddie Howe's team are currently one of the Premier League's in-form sides, having won five games in a row. As well as conceding just one in those five fixtures, they've also witnessed striker Alexander Isak pillage 14 goals in all competitions so far this season – one of which came in the Magpies' 1-0 win over Arsenal in the Premier League back in November.
Arsenal, who battled past Crystal Palace in the quarter final, will now see the Carabao Cup as a prime chance to add silverware to their cabinet, having last claimed a major trophy in the 2019/20 season when they won the FA Cup. Newcastle, who beat Brentford in the last round, haven't won a domestic trophy since 1955. However, they did reach the Carabao Cup final in 2023, only to be beaten by Manchester United.
With holders Liverpool taking on Tottenham in the other semi final on Wednesday, Mirror Football takes a look at how you can tune in to see Arsenal and Newcastle for free.
