Jurgen Klopp admits his first impression of Sadio Mane was very wrong - prompting him to sign the forward years later for Liverpool.
Klopp first met Mane when he was Dortmund boss, and he remembers a young man who left him thinking: "I don't have time for this."
The Reds boss, who was talking in the Made In Senegal documentary about Mane, added that despite his initial impressions he kept one eye on the forward's progress.
And after Mane continued to impress at Salzburg before joining Southampton and "dominating" in the Premier League, Klopp was forced to change his mind on the forward and sign him for Liverpool.
"I remember my first encounter with Sadio. It was in Dortmund," said Klopp, on the documentary about the 27-year-old.
"There was a really young guy sitting there. His baseball cap was askew, the blond streak he still has today. He looked like a rapper just starting out. I thought, 'I don't have time for this.'
"Our team back then really wasn't bad. I needed someone who could handle not being a starter at the very beginning, someone I could develop.
"I'd say I have a pretty good feeling for people, but was I wrong. I followed his further career and continuing success in Salzburg. In Southampton, he just dominated."
Liverpool signed Mane for just £34million in 2016, with the Senegalese putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Anfield.
Mane was expected to play a bit-part as Klopp said, but he has become the club's prized asset, helping Liverpool win the Champions League last season and dominate England this campaign.
