Bradley Walsh was unable to stop himself laughing in the face of one of the contestants on The Chase after they made an epic error.
The 63-year-old TV presenter, actor and comedian hosts the daily ITV afternoon quiz show that pits a team of contestants against an intimidating general knowledge mastermind. On Tuesday, fans tuned in to see 65-year-old Anne Hegerty - aka The Governess - take on the latest batch of game show hopefuls.
But her job was made pretty easy when it came to taking on one hapless hopeful named Duran who was part of a team that also consisted of co-contestants Nick, Tracey and Geoff. Duran was left embarrassed when it came time for her to take on The Governess as she made some terrible errors.
Taking to the podium after raising a fund of several thousand to add to the team kitty, Duran faced off against The Governess in a round of general knowledge questions. However, she was stumped by one answer - which she completely fluffed not only by pressing the wrong button, but also by making the wrong guess.
Reading out the question, Bradley said: “King George III was the first monarch to hold an account with which bank?” And the options were given as Coutts, Clydesdale or the Co-op. And unable to stifle a laugh, Bradley chuckled “The Co-op?” clearly knowing this would not be the correct answer.
Embarrassment then befell Duran as it was revealed she had pressed ‘C’ to answer with the Co-op. She was wrong and Bradley could not believe it - immediately creasing into unstoppable laughter as he realised he had effectively mocked the contestant by already ridiculing the Co-op as an answer.
Attempting to cover for her error, Duran then gasped: “I meant to press B” which would have been to answer with Clydesdale which would still have been the incorrect answer. Bradley collapsed on top of the Chase board as he could not stop himself from laughing hysterically.
Even Anne struggled to keep composed as she said, while on the verge of laughter: “I mean it is an actual - they are all actual banks!” As Bradley continued to laugh, he released a snort of amusement and covered his eyes as he appeared to be moved to tears with laughter.
Finally composing himself, he said: “That is great… And the correct answer is? Oh goodness me. Yeah, it’s Coutts. The royal bank.” Tracey then admitted: “I would’ve been wrong anyways.” Duran did manage to make it thought to the final - with only Nick from her team left to join her as Tracey and Geoff were both caught by The Governess. The duo battled to win the final cash prize, answering 17 questions between them. But The Governess caught them in the final round - sending the pair home with nothing.
