Anya Taylor-Joy is teaming up with Netflix once again, this time to star in an eight-episode series adaptation of one of the recent most-talked-about novels.
After her acclaimed performance as chess whizz Beth Harmon in the hit miniseries The Queen's Gambit on the streaming giant, she's making a much-awaited comeback.
The actress, known for her role in Furiosa, will take the lead in the screen version of Bella Mackie's chart-topping novel How to Kill Your Family.
The story centres on Grace Bernard, daughter of billionaire Simon Artemis, who seeks violent vengeance after suffering a harsh rejection.
Emma Moran, the brains behind Disney+'s Extraordinary, is set to bring the dark tale to the screen, reports the Express.
Since its release in 2021, How to Kill Your Family has shifted over 1.2 million copies and remains a hot topic among book lovers on social media, especially TikTok.
Bella expressed that Anya is "the most perfect fit to play Grace. I often think she understands her better than I do."
Anya herself, according to Tudum, said: "As soon as I turned the last page, I knew I had to be a part of bringing this story to life."
She continued: "After some (light) stalking of the inimitable Bella Mackie, I could not be more thrilled to be collaborating with the team that is executive producers Sally Woodward Gentle, Lizzie Rusbridger, and Emma.
"I am looking forward to getting our hands even dirtier," she added with a hint of excitement.
Showrunner Emma also shared her enthusiasm, confessing to feeling an "immediate kinship" with the book's morally ambiguous lead character.
"She's the kind of complicated, dark, but utterly hilarious antihero you dream of writing," she stated.
"Striking that balance between camp fun and brutal violence that Bella hits so perfectly in the book is a challenge I'm so looking forward to."
"I've never had more fun on a project with such a high body count."
Netflix is gearing up for a new adaptation, and fans of the original book can rest easy knowing it's in good hands with Sid Gentle Films Ltd, the powerhouse behind Killing Eve, helming the project.
Author Emma will helm the series as executive producer along with Woodward Gentle, Rusbridger, and Lee Morris, ensuring the adaptation stays true to its roots.
Woodward Gentle expressed her excitement about the team: "Emma Moran is a magical talent with a unique voice," she shared.
Dishing on the writers' room buzz, she revealed: "The excitement is already palpable in the writers' room as Anya, Lizzie, and the team explore Bella's rip-roaring, take-no-prisoners, satirically pitch-black novel."
And when it comes to casting, Woodward Gentle enthused: "Anya is a fantastic collaborator and couldn't be a more perfect actor to inhabit Grace - sophisticated, multilayered, dangerously funny, and desperately intuitive," and hinted at the many "twists and turns" awaiting viewers.
