Before that he represented Delaware in the U.S. Senate from 1973 to 2009. Married to Dr. Jill Biden since 1977, he is the father of four children, daughters Naomi (died in 1972) and Ashley, and sons Hunter and Beau (died in 2015). In July 2024, Biden withdrew from the presidential race and endorsed his vice president Kamala Harris to take the Democratic nomination.
