If you’re looking to book some last-minute summer travel, Bilt’s July Rent Day offer can help you save on award flights thanks to a generous transfer bonus to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan.

On July 1, Bilt members can get a transfer bonus to Alaska Airlines ranging from 25% to 100%, depending on their Bilt status. Alaska Airlines miles can be used to book flights with Alaska Airlines or its Oneworld Alliance partners, including American Airlines, British Airways, Japan Airlines and more.

In addition to the transfer bonus that’s available to all Bilt members, Bilt Gold and Platinum members can unlock an exclusive status match offer that can grant them Alaska MVP status or Alaska MVP Gold status for the rest of the year—a perk that would otherwise require earning 20,000 or 40,000 elite qualifying miles with Alaska Airlines to get.

Here’s everything you need to know about this July’s Rent Day offer and how to maximize it.

Methodology Icon Our Methodology

Understanding the value of cash back is simple, but valuing airline miles or points redeemable for travel requires digging a bit deeper. At Newsweek, we’ve developed a common language to talk about the value of points and miles: our valuations.

Our valuations translate points into dollars and cents in a way that reflects reality. They are based on actual data across a balance of accessible redemption options, not just the aspirational first and business class redemptions that require a PhD in miles and points to book. The upshot is that our valuations help you understand the actual value you can easily get from your miles and points.

Vault’s Viewpoint on Bilt Rent Day

  • On the first of each month, or “Rent Day,” Bilt Rewards releases special offers for members.
  • On July 1, Bilt members can get a 25% to 100% transfer bonus (depending on Bilt status) to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan on up to 50,000 Bilt points.
  • Between now and July 1, Bilt Gold and Platinum members can activate Alaska MVP status and Alaska MVP Gold status, respectively, by transferring 10,000 points to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan (separate from the transfer bonus offer).
  • Other Rent Day offers this month include double points on purchases made with the Bilt Mastercard, the opportunity to earn extra Bilt points through the Point Quest trivia game, free SoulCycle Rent Day Rides, Bilt-exclusive private dining experiences and a chance to win free rent through the Rent Free game show in the app.

Bilt Rewards July Rent Day Offer: Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Transfer Bonus and Status Match

July’s Rent Day promotion has two parts, both centered around Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, the airline’s loyalty program. The first part is a transfer bonus available to all Bilt members, and the second is a status match offer available exclusively to Bilt Gold and Platinum members.

Transfer Bonus

Bilt points normally transfer to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan at a 1:1 ratio. But between 12 a.m. ET on July 1 and 2:59 a.m. ET on July 2, Bilt members who transfer Bilt points to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan can get a 25% and 100% transfer bonus. The bonus amounts are determined by your Bilt status at the time you transfer your points with the following tiers:

Bilt StatusTransfer Bonus1,000 Bilt Points equals
Blue25%1,250* miles
Silver50%1,500 miles
Gold75%1,750 miles
Platinum100%2,000 miles

*The minimum transfer amount for Bilt Blue members is 2,000 Bilt points, which would become 2,500 Alaska Airlines miles with this offer.

The transfer bonus is good for a cumulative maximum of 50,000 Bilt points during the transfer bonus window. Additional points transferred beyond that limit will be transferred at the standard 1:1 ratio without any bonus.

There are a couple of other terms and conditions to be aware of:

  • In order to transfer points, you must be enrolled in Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan and link your Mileage Plan account to your Bilt account.
  • You can transfer Bilt points in increments of 1,000.
  • The minimum transfer amount for Bilt Blue members is 2,000 Bilt points. The minimum transfer amount for Bilt Silver, Gold and Platinum members is 1,000 Bilt points.
  • Transfers are immediate in most cases but can take up to 48 hours to be completed.
  • All point transfers are final and can’t be reversed.

Alaska Airlines Status Match

Between now and 11:59 p.m. PT July 1, Bilt members who’ve earned Platinum or Gold status can activate Alaska Airlines MVP Gold Status and Alaska Airlines MVP Status, respectively. To activate this status match, you need to transfer 10,000 Bilt points to Alaska Airlines, for which you’ll receive 10,000 Alaska Airlines miles along with your status.

This offer is separate from the Alaska Airlines transfer bonus offer and is initiated through a different page on the Rent Day tab on the Bilt website or app.

The 10,000 points you transfer through the status match offer will be transferred at a 1:1 ratio and aren’t eligible for the transfer bonus offer.

Alaska Airlines MVP status grants perks like class upgrades on select fares (pending availability), priority check-in and boarding, free checked bags and more. MVP Gold status, the next tier up, comes with all the benefits of MVP status plus extras like complimentary same-day flight changes, class upgrades for companions and a complimentary premium beverage or chocolate in Main Cabin. You can read more about the benefits on Alaska Airlines’s website.

Here are a couple of other things you should know about the status match offer:

  • This offer is only available for Bilt Platinum and Gold members; Bilt Blue and Silver members aren’t eligible.
  • Approved status requests will be applied to your Alaska Airlines account within 14 business days from the end of the offer activation window.
  • The Alaska Airlines MVP status you’ll receive from this offer lasts until Dec. 31, 2024.
  • You can only use this offer to request Alaska Airlines MVP status for yourself. You must initiate the request from your own Bilt account and have the offer applied to your own Alaska Airlines account.
  • This promotion doesn’t count toward any once-in-a-lifetime status match requirements by Alaska Airlines.

You can find the full terms and conditions of both the transfer bonus and status match offers here.

How To Maximize July’s Rent Day Offer

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles are valuable both for their usefulness and rarity. Alaska Airlines is a member of the Oneworld Alliance, meaning you can use Mileage Plan miles to book flights operated by Alaska Airlines itself or other Oneworld partners, like American Airlines or British Airways. Between Alaska Airlines’s own flights and those from its partners, you can use your Alaska miles to book flights to over 1,000 destinations around the world. One good way to find award flights is to use Bilt’s award space search engine in partnership with Point.me. You can also look at Alaska Airlines’ award charts to get a sense of the possibilities.

Bilt is currently the only card among the major credit card reward programs that transfer to Alaska Airlines, making July’s Rent Day offer a rare chance to boost your stash of this hard-to-come-by airline currency. If you have your eyes set on an Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan flight and have enough Bilt points to book it, make sure to jump on this offer, as you likely won’t find a better deal anytime soon.

However, the fact that Alaska Airlines miles are hard to get is a double-edged sword because you won’t have many options to top off your balance by transferring points from another credit card. You can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to Alaska or earn miles with an Alaska Airlines co-branded credit card or by flying. Still, if you don’t have a large Bilt points balance, you may find it hard to piece together enough miles for an award flight, even with the transfer bonus.

Other Rent Day Offers for July 2024

Apart from the main offer listed above, the standard Rent Day benefits that are available every month will be returning for July. These include:

  • Rent Day double points with the Bilt Mastercard: From 12:00 a.m. ET through 11:59 p.m. PT on July 1, Bilt Mastercard cardholders will earn 6X points on dining, 4X points on travel and 2X points on all other purchases (excluding rent). Normally, the card earns 3X points on dining, 2X points on travel and 1X points on all other non-rent purchases. Rent payments still earn 1X points as normal.
  • Rent Free game show: Members can play a game on the Bilt app or website for the chance to have their rent paid for the month. The top 10 ranking players will win one rent payment (up to $2,500), while the next 600 ranking players will receive bonus Bilt points. The contest window is open from now until 3:00 p.m. ET on July 1.
  • Point Quest trivia: Members can earn up to 250 Bilt points by playing the Point Quest trivia game in the Bilt app on July 1 and answering all questions correctly.
  • Bilt dining experiences: Members can use cash or points to book exclusive dining experiences at select restaurants throughout the U.S. on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Free SoulCycle Rent Day Rides: Members can book a free bike in a SoulCycle Rent Day class on July 1 at select SoulCycle studios throughout the U.S. Booking is open now, and bikes are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Why the Bilt Mastercard Is a Great Card

Although you don’t need to have the Bilt Mastercard to take advantage of most of this month’s Rent Day offers (with the exception of the Double Points offer), the card is still a worthwhile addition to your wallet if you spend a lot on rent and want to earn travel rewards.

The Bilt Mastercard’s greatest benefit is the ability to earn points on rent without fees. Although your rent payment is charged to your Bilt Mastercard and earns 1 point per dollar, Bilt makes it so that your landlord processes the transaction as an ACH transaction or check (which usually doesn’t incur a processing fee like a credit card transaction would).

You can use the BiltProtect Debit feature to have Bilt pull the rent payment directly from a linked bank account instead of charging it to your card. This will reduce your credit utilization ratio and prevent you from racking up debt or accruing interest.

One feature I love about the Bilt Mastercard is its access to 1:1 point transfers for a good variety of transfer partners without an annual fee. That’s relatively rare in the travel credit card space and makes this card a great option to dip your toes into travel rewards without committing to an annual fee. I have several annual-fee-charging travel cards, but I like knowing that even if I cancel or downgrade them in the future, I’ll still have a stash of transferable points on my Bilt Mastercard. The card’s rewards rates are also competitive, especially if you take advantage of the Rent Day double points offer.

The Bilt Mastercard also comes with several useful benefits, like trip cancellation and interruption protection and cellphone protection.

That said, this card isn’t for everyone. Those who don’t pay rent are missing out on the card’s main benefit, while those who don’t travel may have a hard time finding worthwhile redemption options for their points. Further, if the ability to put rent on your credit card will cause you to charge more than you can afford to pay off each month, don’t get this card. The interest and fees caused by carrying a balance will far outweigh any rewards you earn.
