The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is one of today’s best travel credit cards, especially for frequent travelers who want to maximize their rewards and benefits. Many top travel credit cards, including the Venture X, offer high-value points or miles on travel bookings as well as money-saving perks like airport lounge access, annual travel credits and reimbursement for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry membership.

However, choosing a travel credit card is also about understanding the card’s travel protections—which means that you may want to know how Venture X travel insurance works before you decide to apply.

Does the Capital One Venture X have travel insurance? Yes, and coverage includes everything from lost luggage to canceled flights. We put together a Venture X travel protection guide to help you understand how Venture X travel insurance works and whether you might want to use the card to help cover your next trip.

Vault’s Viewpoint on Venture X Travel Insurance

  • Capital One Venture X credit card holders are eligible for travel insurance through the Visa Infinite program.
  • Your Venture X travel insurance includes coverage for trip delays, trip cancellation and interruption, lost luggage reimbursement and more.
  • You can review Capital One’s Visa Infinite benefits guide for steps on how to file a Venture X insurance claim.

Capital One Venture X Travel Insurance Benefits

While Capital One does not offer Venture X travel insurance directly, cardholders have the opportunity to take advantage of the travel insurance benefits provided through the Visa Infinite program. Since the Capital One Venture X card is a Visa Infinite card, it comes with a number of travel insurance benefits, as well as other cardholder benefits like extended warranty protection and access to the Visa Infinite Concierge.

Browse our Visa Infinite guide to learn more, or keep reading to understand the Venture X card travel insurance benefits offered through Visa Infinite.

Trip Cancellation and Interruption

Your trip cancellation and interruption insurance offers up to $2,000 in reimbursement per insured person for tickets that were canceled or interrupted for a qualifying reason, including illness, injury or death. This coverage extends to immediate family members if their tickets were purchased with your Venture X card. Certain types of injuries, such as recreational injuries resulting from participation in sports events, are not included in this coverage.

Trip Delay Reimbursement

Your trip delay reimbursement protection offers up to $500 in reimbursement per ticket purchased with your Venture X card when a covered trip is delayed by more than six hours or requires an overnight stay. This benefit only applies if there are expenses above and beyond what may be covered by your airline or other travel insurance programs—which means that if an airline offers you money to take a later flight, you may not be able to claim trip delay reimbursement—and you will need to provide itemized receipts of all relevant costs.

Travel Accident Insurance

Your travel accident insurance covers up to $1,000,000.00 against accidental loss of life, limb, sight, speech or hearing while riding as a passenger in, entering or exiting any licensed common carrier associated with a ticket you purchased using your Venture X card. If you purchase your tickets prior to departure, the coverage includes any taxi, bus, train or airport limousine you take to or from the airport, terminal or station.

Lost Luggage Reimbursement

If your carry-on or checked luggage is stolen or lost by an airline, you may be eligible for up to $3,000 in reimbursement per trip (with lower coverage for New York residents). This coverage does not take effect until you have exhausted all reasonable efforts to find or claim your luggage. Certain items, such as eyeglasses, cosmetics and keys, are not included in this coverage. Cash and cash equivalents are also not included.

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver

If you use your Venture X card to rent a car and decline the rental company’s collision damage waiver, the Visa Infinite auto rental collision damage waiver kicks in. This insurance protects you by reimbursing you for damages caused by theft or collision. This reimbursement may include up to the actual cash value of rental vehicles, depending on the original manufacturer’s suggested retail price. Certain types of rental cars, including cargo vans and limousines, are not covered.

Travel and Emergency Assistance Services

If you need emergency assistance while traveling, Visa Infinite provides access to professionals who can help you with medical referrals, legal referrals and emergency transportation, among other services. While the assistance is free, Visa Infinite does not reimburse you for any costs you may incur by taking advantage of these services, such as the medical payments associated with the hospital to which you were referred.

Filing a Capital One Venture X Travel Insurance Claim

If you need to file a Capital One Venture X travel insurance claim, it’s a good idea to begin the process as soon as possible. Most Visa Infinite travel protections have time limits during which a claim can be filed, and these limits can be as short as 20 days after occurence.

Capital One provides a guide to Visa Infinite benefits that includes a step-by-step process for filing every type of travel insurance claim. Each of these processes are slightly different and require different types of documentation, so review your benefits guide carefully before you begin. If you have questions about how to file, contact Capital One customer service at 1-877-383-4802 or contact Visa Infinite benefits administration at 1-800-825-4062.

How Venture X Travel Insurance Compares

Since the Capital One Venture X credit card is both a premium travel card and a Visa Infinite card, its travel protections may be better than the ones you might get from other travel credit cards. Visa Infinite is the highest Visa benefits tier, and only a small number of Visa cards include Infinite benefits. Visa Signature cardholders, for example, have access to Visa’s travel and emergency assistance services but may not receive travel insurance benefits unless they are provided by the credit card issuer.

That said, other high-level travel credit cards, including the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and The Platinum Card® from American Express, may offer travel protections similar to the benefits that come with the Capital One Venture X. Feel free to take some time to compare the fine print if you’re considering a few different options—but if you’re only interested in the Venture X card, you can trust that applying for this premium credit card will ensure that you receive premium benefits.
