The trio of Mark Turner on saxophones, Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums works together as a democratic collective, where everybody writes tunes and nobody acts as the leader. There's an open, soaring, modern sense of swing to Fly's music; there's also plenty of groove. The band plays inside Fort Adams at the CareFusion Newport Folk Festival in Newport, R.I.
