Huntington Beach multi-sport athlete Kelly Reid is being remembered as a positive teammate and gifted player after she and her father died in a plane crash in Fullerton on Thursday.
The Oilers announced on social media on Friday that Reid and her father Pascal died in the crash.
Reid, a junior, was a member of the Oilers’ girls soccer team that reached the semifinals of the recent Excalibur Tournament of Champions.
Huntington Beach girls soccer coach Raul Ruiz called Reid’s death “devastating” as he remembered her as a “special person.”
“Always with a positive outlook (on) life (and) full of energy,” Ruiz said on Friday. “Kelly was a great soccer player, very athletic. She was a special person.”
In the fall, Reid earned first-team All-Sunset League honors in girls flag football after recording 123 receptions for 1,738 yards and 22 touchdowns.
She led Huntington Beach in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in helping the squad advance to the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals.
Reid was considered for All-County honors.
“Kelly was the most loving teammate, friend and a truly remarkable person who touched the lives of many with her kindness and warmth,” Huntington Beach’s flag football team posted on Instagram. “She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”
Reid donned No. 6 jerseys in soccer and flag football this school year.
Last spring, she was also on the lacrosse team.
“Kelly was a natural caregiver and always put others first,” Huntington Beach’s girls soccer team posted on Instagram. “She will be deeply missed. Her father was at very single game, always so proud of his daughter.”
