What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though Fargo's ambitious fourth season struggles to maintain momentum, fine performances and a change of scenery make for an engaging -- if uneven -- departure from the series' norm.

Geordie Gray The Australian This gives you ample time to delve into the other seasons, should you have neglected to have done so... Nov 6, 2023 Full Review Hugo Rifkind Times (UK) The first half of this opening episode was just tremendous, although I did feel the second drifted a bit. May 17, 2021 Full Review Rebecca Nicholson Guardian Given that Fargo has always stood out, it is strange that it seems to be settling for blending in. Andrew R Despite a slight dip in quality, individual performances rule in this fantastic addition to the Fargo story. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/08/24 Full Review Brian S Absolutely loved seasons 1-3 and 5. Stopped watching season 4 after three episodes: unlike the other seasons, the plot, characters, suspense and humor was simply absent and incoherent. Very boring. Almost seemed as if the Coen brothers handed this season off to a different director. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review Alec W I feel like this season gets a bad rap. For me, it absolutely delivers on the "Fargo Premise" that good people can make bad choices, and bad people can make good choices, and the addition of fate and coincidence often provide for a very interesting narrative. This season is just as smart and humorous as the others. The performances are stellar on all counts, other than perhaps that of Jason Schwartzman. I'll admit it lacks the quirky nature of characters that exist in other seasons, and instead focuses on more traditional gangster movie tropes and social commentary, but that appeals to me as well. The seasons don't all have to be the same. And it is absolutely connected to other seasons and earlier Coen Brothers movies, which I love. Miller's Crossing is one of my favorites, so perhaps that is one of the reasons why I enjoyed this season so much. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/27/24 Full Review Sam B I felt like the subtle humor that makes Fargo so entertaining was mostly absent from this season. I did enjoy Chris Rock’s performance and character. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review cédric f People seem to hate this season but I found it really good. Not really a Fargo season, but the writing is good. It's really interesting and well, the cast is fine ! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/24 Full Review Matthew S Season 4 is the only season of Fargo that isn't worth watching. Chris Rock is not a believable bad guy and really cheapens the show. The other seasons shine, and luckily the writers got their act together for the next season so look forward to that instead and skip this one.
