Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra won’t get Polar ID, S26 Ultra might feature Face ID

T-Mobile Galaxy S24 June 2024 update

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra could not feature iPhone-like Face ID technology. The company’s next Ultra flagship is expected to continue to utilize face unlock. However, the Galaxy S26 Ultra might have upgraded facial recognition tech, equivalent to Face ID.

According to a tipster, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra won’t get Face ID, inspired by Apple’s iPhone. There was a rumor that the company plans to use “Polar ID” – a polarized facial recognition system, in the S25 Ultra, but it now stands untrue.

Polar ID is a facial recognition technology that doesn’t require additional sensors. It would have simply helped Samsung continue bringing punch-hole display to its flagship phone and further upgrading the facial recognition technology.

Ditching the fingerprint sensor, Apple introduced Face ID tech in 2017, starting with the iPhone X. Since then, all Apple iPhone models have been equipped with Face ID with regular improvements. It is more secure and reliable than the face unlock that relies only on the front camera.

This means the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be an enhanced S24 Ultra. The camera department is reportedly upgrading to new 50MP sensors. The display panel may also go brighter than the S24 Ultra, whereas a major design overhaul is spinning in the rumors mill.
