Samsung officially launched a 200MP ISOCELL HP9 Telephoto camera. It is the world’s first Telephoto camera for smartphones that features 200-megapixel resolution. Equipped with advanced algorithms and AI, it is ready to revolutionize the photography segment yet again.

According to Samsung, the ISOCELL HP9 is the Industry’s first 200MP Telephoto camera for smartphones. The sensor features 200 million 0.56-micrometer (μm) pixels in a 1/1.4-inch optical format.

Samsung’s new ISOCELL HP9 sensor significantly enhances light-gathering capability by directing more light accurately to the corresponding RGB color filter – thanks to its proprietary high-refractive microlens.

Utilization of the new sensor material results in more vivid color reproduction and improved focus with 12% better light sensitivity and 10% improved autofocus contrast performance compared to the previous product.

The sensor is also equipped with a remosaic algorithm, which offers 2x or 4x in-sensor zoom modes, achieving up to 12x zoom when paired with a 3x zoom telephoto module, without dramatically reducing quality.

Samsung says HP9’s Tetra²pixel technology merges 16 pixels (4×4) into a large, 12MP 2.24μm-sized sensor, enabling sharper portrait shots — even in dark settings — and creating dramatic out-of-focus bokeh effects.

Last but not least, HP9’s large optical format makes it suitable for telephoto modules that match premium main cameras in image quality, autofocus, high dynamic range (HDR), and frames per second (fps).

Vivo X100 Ultra is equipped with an HP9 sensor, with Samsung flagships unlikely to use it.
