Key benefits
Who is Hospital Liberty suitable for?
Hospital Liberty is a good choice for anyone who wants to feel confident that they will receive the best possible treatment and care before, during and after hospitalisation.
Why supplementary hospital insurance makes sense
Mandatory basic insurance ensures you receive basic medical care. In the event of hospitalisation, additional benefits like a free choice of doctors and hospitals, more privacy in a single or two-bed room, rapid access to specialists and optimal care in the event of emergencies abroad make a huge difference.
-
General supplementary hospital insurance: free choice of hospitals
Go to a contractual hospital of your choice
With the Hospital Standard Liberty general supplementary hospital insurance, the doors to all Sanitas contractual hospitals in Switzerland are open to you. Do you live in Graubünden, but would like to undergo your operation in another canton, for example at the Inselspital university hospital in Bern? With supplementary hospital insurance, that’s no problem.
Flexible upgrade to higher-category wards
You decide before admission to hospital whether you want to upgrade to a semiprivate or private ward for more comfort in hospital. There are also valuable benefits abroad, such as the organisation of medical treatment and medicines at your place of hospitalisation.
Additional benefits after a hospital stay
Proper recovery is important after a medical procedure: Sanitas contributes to the costs of home help, spa treatments, nursing care at home, and care at home after birth.
-
Semiprivate supplementary hospital insurance: free choice of hospital and doctors
More freedom
A better recovery thanks to more privacy in a two-bed room – better treatment thanks to more choice of doctors and hospitals. You can count on this with Hospital Extra Liberty supplementary inpatient hospital insurance. You benefit from the free choice of all Sanitas-accredited hospitals worldwide. And you decide if you want to receive treatment from senior doctors and affiliated doctors.
Faster access to specialists
Specialists are sometimes booked out for months in advance. With the Hospital Extra Liberty semiprivate supplementary hospital insurance, you have faster access: The Priority Access service ensures you receive an appointment to see a specialist within just seven days.
A second medical opinion
A second medical opinion can help when you’re faced with an important decision about medical care. Your customer advisor will put you in touch with a Medgate doctor to get an independent second opinion.

Frequently asked questions
-
What’s the difference between supplementary outpatient and inpatient hospital insurance?
In the case of inpatient treatment, the patient stays overnight in hospital. With outpatient treatment, the patient leaves the practice or hospital on the same day.
-
What do the Sanitas Preference services include?
We provide expert personal support to insured persons with private or semiprivate hospital insurance. Within a few days, your contact will arrange appointments with specialist doctors who are often fully booked for months in advance.
Are you looking for a doctor to provide a second opinion on a critical procedure? We take care of this for you, too. Would you like to recover in a family room after birth? Wherever possible, we’ll help organise a family room for you and cover the costs of overnight accommodation for an accompanying person.
And if you have any questions about medical care, our health advisors are there for you.
-
Will I receive support with everyday life after hospitalisation?
If you’re overwhelmed by everyday life after hospitalisation, we’ll cover part of the costs for care at home and household help. Here too, you need to take out semiprivate or private supplementary hospital insurance to secure these additional benefits.
