Virtual reality(VR) has been successfully applied to a broad range of training domains. VR provides an opportunity to train in a safe and controlled environment, with support for accurate performance measurement. In this report I present a prototype of a VR application for ski jumping. The goal for this project is to explore if such an application can be used to teach the basics of ski jumping, and if it can be used as a training tool for athletes. The development process is thoroughly…

Creating a Smart Virtual Reality Simulator for Sports Training and Education

A prototype of a smart VR simulator for ski jumping training modelled after the ski jumping hill of Granasen in Trondheim, Norway that has been venue for several international skiing competitions and is now competing for hosting World Ski Championship in 2021 is presented.

Human-Joystick VR Locomotion technique: An empirical approach

Results show that Human-Joystick technique is an efficient locomotion technique in terms of ease of use and speed and serves as opportunities for future game designers and developers to build upon.

Development of a Pair Ski Jump System Focusing on Improvement of Experience of Video Content

This study has developed a system in which users can experience Ski Jumping Pairs, a video content of an imaginary sport in which two players jump using a pair of skis to enhance the VR experience of the world of video content.

Feasibility of Training Athletes for High-Pressure Situations Using Virtual Reality

The results demonstrate that a VR sport-oriented system can induce increased anxiety (physiological and subjective measures) compared to a baseline condition, and further research is needed to determine if training in a VR environment can lead to long-term reduction in sport-induced anxiety.

An interactive programme that simulates and visualises the performance in ski-jumping, implemented as a Java Swing applet which can be integrated in a Web page and run on many different kinds of computers.

Using Game Technology to Develop Snowboard Training Simulator

This paper presents a virtual simulator for the beginners to train and learn snowboarding skill and aims to provide a sport-training program that is effective and applicable to real life sports.

Computers and virtual reality for surgical education in the 21st century.

There has been early progress that should encourage surgeons to incorporate computer simulation into the surgical curriculum, and computer-based training in technical skills has the potential to solve many of the educational, economic, ethical, and patient safety issues related to learning to perform operations.

Virtual reality applied to sports: do handball goalkeepers react realistically to simulated synthetic opponents?

The results show that this kind of model enables to carry-out virtual experiments without modifying the natural gestures of the subjects, and it is verified if this animation model reproduces real motions with an enough accuracy to engender realistic goalkeepers reactions.

From visual simulation to virtual reality to games

Leveraging technology from the visual simulation and virtual reality communities, serious games provide a delivery system for organizational video game instruction and training.

A photogrammetric application in virtual sport training

The paper discusses an application of close range photogrammetry for the development of a virtual training system for rugby football, and the use of the technique for the evaluation of rugby players’

Virtual Reality Training Improves Operating Room Performance: Results of a Randomized, Double-Blinded Study

ObjectiveTo demonstrate that virtual reality (VR) training transfers technical skills to the operating room (OR) environment. Summary Background DataThe use of VR surgical simulation to train skills

Defining virtual reality: dimensions determining telepresence

This paper attempts to cast a new, variable-based definition of virtual reality that can be used to classify virtual reality in relation to other media, based on concepts of "presence" and "telepresence".
