Angel City Football Club (ACFC) has renewed its deal with Sprouts Farmers Market to be its back-of-the-shirt sponsor for the next three seasons. The high seven-figure deal runs through the 2027 NWSL season, a source close to the club, who was granted anonymity because the details are private, told Sportico.
Sprouts Farmers Market’s logo will continue to be positioned on the lower back of ACFC’s official jerseys, including on all home, away, authentic, replica and special edition first-team jerseys available for purchase.
Through Angel City’s sponsorship model, 10% of the value of any deal is directed to local causes, done in collaboration with each partner. With this deal, Sprouts and ACFC will provide 10% of the sponsorship’s value to the Garden School Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes children’s nutrition education and facilitates access to fresh food in Los Angeles.
ACFC has made significant contributions to community projects through this Sprouts collaboration, including over 86,000 pounds of fresh produce to support food assistance programs at schools in LA.
“Sprouts Farmers Market has understood the incredible upside in sponsoring a women’s team from our first meeting,” Julie Uhrman, co-founder and president of Angel City FC, said in an email. “Through our impactful garden restoration and food distribution programs, Sprouts has put their 10 percent giveback to work in our community, which shows how values-aligned we are.”
Sprouts was the club’s first partner headquartered outside of California. The Phoenix-based company has more than 70 stores in the Los Angeles area alone. Founded in 2002, Sprouts operates more than 400 stores nationwide.
ACFC is founded by Academy Award-winning actress and activist Natalie Portman, technology venture capitalist Kara Nortman and Uhrman, a media and gaming entrepreneur. Reddit co-founder and investor Alexis Ohanian is the team’s largest shareholder. Additionally, the ownership group includes dozens of smaller investors including Serena Williams, Billie Jean King and former USWNT stars Julie Foudy and Mia Hamm. According to Sportico’s latest valuations, the franchise is worth $180 million, the highest in the league.
Last month, Sportico reported that the club’s board has hired Moelis & Company to explore a control sale of the franchise. If sold, it could set the league record for the largest valuation in a major transaction.
