Sramana Mitra: So you have a platform strategy and are encouraging companies to build on top of that?
Khris Loux: Exactly. We don’t build any experiences on our own platform. We build the platform software community to build on top of it.
SM: And how big is your company?
KL: There are 45 people in the company.
SM: And how does it look like in terms of scale? Are you a $5 million company, a $20 million company, or a $100 million company?
KL: In 2013 we are a $12 million company.
SM: Are you a traditional venture-funded company?
KL: Yes. I have seed funded it myself, and we are venture backed as well.
SM: Who is your investor?
KL: ALTOS Ventures.
SM: How many developers are building on top of your ecosystem?
KL: There are roughly a dozen application development partners – they are companies. On average, there are 10 to 15 developers in each one.
SM: Maybe a better question is, How many apps have been built in your ecosystem?
KL: There are roughly 15, with another 30 in backlog that are coming online shortly. It also turns out that a large number of application and developers are within our customers. ESPN, for example, has dozens of developers. Scripps Networks Interactive has hundreds of developers. There are two flavors of developers. One would be within a customer, and the other would be an independent application developer – five guys in Silicon Valley trying to make a go of it.
SM: Thank you for your time, Khris. It was great talking to you. I very much enjoyed learning about your vision of where this is all going. Goodbye.
KL: It has been a pleasure. Take care.
