U-turn for fringe Liverpool star as trio tipped to stay at Anfield

Xherdan Shaqiri looks likely to stay at Liverpool unless a surprise late bid comes in for him, according to reports.

With Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas already added to their title-winning squad, the main focus for Liverpool on deadline day has been player departures rather than signings.

Liverpool have been looking to trim down their squad by getting rid of some of their fringe players.

Marko Grujic could leave them on loan, returning to the Bundesliga for a new challenge with Werder Bremen.

There has also been a late enquiry for Harry Wilson from Celtic, who would like the winger on a temporary deal.

Liverpool are also reportedly expecting offers for young left-back Yasser Larouci, who is in the final year of his contract.

But one player who will not be leaving Anfield is Shaqiri. According to Goal, the Evening Standard and more, the Swiss midfielder will stay at Liverpool beyond the transfer deadline.

Shaqiri has not featured in any Premier League matchday squad for Liverpool this season so far, due in part to transfer speculation. A move to the Bundesliga was supposedly on the cards.

But no concrete options have materialised, meaning he will likely be reintegrated into the first team fold.

Grujic and Wilson could also stay

In fact, James Pearce of The Athletic adds that Grujic and Wilson are now likely to stay as well.

Only loan offers have come in for the pair, but like with Shaqiri, Liverpool would only entertain permanent exits.

With nothing of the sort on the table, the trio all look likely to remain at Anfield.

Indeed, Bild now report that Grujic’s move to Werder Bremen has collapsed due to the two clubs being unable to agree on the finances of the loan deal.
