Antonio Conte plots Serie A swoop with £173m war chest, as big new Tottenham objective emerges
A report has revealed the second Tottenham objective after Antonio Conte pens a new contract, with the manager apparently set to be given €200million (£173m) to spend.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and director of football Fabio Paratici are working hard to sort out Conte’s future. He is out of contract at the end of the season as things stand and could leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for nothing.
Juventus are reportedly plotting a reunion with Conte due to their poor form under Max Allegri. The Bianconeri sit eighth in Serie A and are 10 points behind leaders Napoli.
Tottenham need to hand Conte a lucrative new contract to reward him for the great job he is doing, and to prevent him from going back to Italy.
Should Juve come knocking after the 53-year-old signs a new Spurs deal, then the north London outfit will be protected by a release clause.
On Wednesday, it emerged Spurs had drawn up a ‘super-offer’ to try and tie Conte down. They are willing to pay him £17.3m per year until summer 2025, according to Italian source La Repubblica.
They also stated Conte would be given a huge £173m budget to spend on new players in the summer.
Fellow Italian outlet Inter Live provide their information on Conte’s future. They write the former Chelsea boss will be backed hugely in the transfer market by Spurs as part of their aim to convince him to stay.
Tottenham want Serie A goalscorer
And this is where Spurs’ second objective emerges. It is claimed Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez will come back on their radar next summer.
Spurs have looked into signing the Argentine a couple of times in the past. Ultimately, they have gone on to bring in alternative attackers, such as Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski.
Manchester United have reportedly begun initial talks with Inter over Martinez’s signing. This came after his top-class performance against Barcelona on October 12, during which he got a goal and an assist.
But Spurs are now in the mix for Martinez too. They will supposedly use some of the £173m war chest to finally bring the goalscorer to the Premier League. He has only played in Argentina and Italy before.
Inter are more likely to consider a sale this time around, too. They couldn’t accept any bids for Martinez in the 2021 summer transfer window after already agreeing to sell Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku.
Summer 2023 seems ideal for Lautaro Martinez swoop
Some at the club are wondering why they did not cash in and let Martinez go to Spurs or Man Utd then. But next year, Inter CEO Guiseppe Marotta could finally allow the ace to leave.
It seems next summer is the best time for Spurs to strike and capture Martinez. Levy will sanction the big spending and Inter will be happy to sell.
A potential move for Martinez does bring up the question over whether Harry Kane will stay at Spurs. Bayern Munich are big admirers of Kane and might launch a move for him at the end of the campaign.
As Levy has shown before, he will only sell Kane for a colossal fee. But the fact Martinez has become a target suggests there is a small chance Kane will go.
With Kane’s future in mind, Sky Germany have just provided a big update on his future and what Bayern are planning to do.
