I thought we might have a problem with this one but in the end we didn’t. 7 shots on target, 3 in and 4 saved (and one of those was about 1″ from being given) to Pompey’s 0. We seemed to struggle in the first half but I think that was mainly due to trying to play out from the back. Once we stopped that the game swung our way again. My blood pressure can’t take it so hopefully it’ll stop. The difference this season is Maja with the assistance of Fellows. Throw in a revitalised Grant and a number 10 (Swift) who seems now to be a roving playmaker plus Mowatt equalled his last years total in this game. We have subs who’d have got in from the start last year. Imagine a defence who’ve been tormented by Fellows and Grant only to see them replaced by Wallace and Mikey J! I’m still not altogether happy with our defence but as we’ve only let in 2 goals so far they must be doing ok.COYB

I don’t know what Palmer was thinking at times. Why play the ball out in centre of the pitch to players who are tightly marked? Once he started playing it long it turned Portsmouth around and after a first half of pressing they were out on their feet after an hour or so and it was comfortable. Also, it’s been a while since we’ve had a striker with a first touch like Maja. It makes such a difference to the team and opens things up for Swift and co to then work openings and with the pace of Fellows, Johnston etc we now look a real threat going forward. Defence did well, although Heggem didn’t have his best game as he was unsettled by the press.
