A queen size will cost you $1,595, which is $200 less than the new standard price, and the cheapest price we ever see. This Saatva deal turns up maybe twice a year for just a few days, and it's well worth taking advantage of.
Helix Midnight Mattress: was $936.30 now from $749 + free pillows at Helix
If you sleep on your side, you should check out the Helix Midnight. This mid-range hybrid mattress has thick memory foam layers that contour around your joints. It's ultra-comfortable when lying on your side – no danger of waking up with an achy shoulder here.
- Best for: Side sleepers

In its latest sale Helix is running its usual 20% discount and including a pair of pillows when you buy, with a queen size costing $1,099. This is standard, evergreen Helix mattress sale and good value, but if you're prepared to wait for the next big sales event you should be able to get 25% off.
Purple mattress: was $999 now from $799 at Purple
Like all this brand's beds, the original Purple's standout feature is its Purple Grid. This is a bouncy, stretchy elastic grid that sits directly beneath the cover, and contours to the sleeper's body to provide pressure relief and custom support. Unlike foams, it does this without trapping body heat – our reviewer said this was the coolest mattress they'd ever slept on.
- Best for: Hot sleepers

In the current Purple sale there are big discounts its affordable Essential collection, including up to $400 off the original model. A queen size comes in at $1,099, which is a strong discount. We have seen better Purple mattress sales, but very rarely.
Loom & Leaf mattress: was $1,595, now from $1,095 at Saatva
If you struggle with back pain, it might be worth investing in a Loom & Leaf. This is Saatva's premium memory foam mattress, and it noticeably eased our reviewer's lower back pain. There are two firmness levels to choose from (we recommend firmer for back/stomach sleepers and heavier bodies, but less firm for side sleeper) as well as reinforcement beneath the lumbar.

Siena memory foam mattress: was $499, now from $199 at Siena
Siena is the budget bed brand from the same parent company as Nectar, and is the best quality mattress we've tested in this price bracket, by some margin. Be aware that it's firmer than advertised – we think it's best suited to back and stomach sleepers, as well as anyone who prefers a sturdy mattress.
- Best for: small budgets, back / stomach sleepers

There's 50% off the Siena in the latest sale. Although this isn't a particularly unusual deal, it's ridiculously cheap for what you're getting.

Nectar Memory Foam Mattress: was $699 now from $349 at Nectar
The Nectar is our top-rated memory foam mattress, as well as being excellent value for money. It has a bit of that memory foam hug, but not so much you feel like you're being swallowed by your mattress. It absorbs movements very well, making it a great choice for couples.
- Best for: Mid-range budgets, couples

- Featured in: Best mattress in a box
There's up to 40% off at Nectar right now, with a queen size original memory foam mattress coming in at $649. That's actually a pretty standard Nectar mattress deal, however this mattress is still incredible value for money, with ultra-generous extras including a year-long trial and forever warranty.
Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress: was $1,299 now from $649 at Awara
The Awara is a hybrid mattress that includes natural latex alongside coils, New Zealand wool and organic cotton. Latex delivers a buoyant feeling sleep surface that doesn't trap body heat like memory foam can. This mattress would also be a good choice for anyone who prizes the use of natural materials in their bed.

The current deal takes up to 50% off, with a queen coming in at $949. That's pretty standard pricing for this mattress, but it's still much cheaper than most natural mattresses.
Helix Dusk Luxe Mattress: was $1,373.80 now from $1,099 + free pillows at Helix
Back and stomach sleepers in need of extra comfort should consider the Helix Dusk Luxe. It's a premium hybrid mattress with thick foam layers and a gloriously soft pillow top, and while firmer mattresses are usually better suited to back and stomach sleepers, this medium bed provides all the support and pressure relief you'll need.

The current Helix mattress sale gets you a 20% discount with a pair of pillows included with your bed, and a queen size Dusk Luxe will cost you $1,899. This is a good price for this premium bed, but if you're set on the biggest saving Helix tends to take 25% off around major sales events, so it could pay to wait for a bit.

The best mattress deals in the UK
Brook + Wilde Elite: was £999 now from £599.40 at Brook + Wilde

The current 40% off deal with the MAR40 code brings the price of a double down to £779.40, which is okay but you'd do well to wait until a better deal comes along; we regularly see discounts of 50% and more at Brook + Wilde.
Emma Original Mattress: was £339 now from £271.20 at Emma
Great value memory foam - The medium-feel Original is comfortable for all sleep positions, with a memory foam layer that adapts to your body for tailored pressure relief. In our Emma Mattress review, we commented that the plush sleep surface is ideal for side sleepers. This one is excellent value for money; Emma's currently selling two versions, the standard and a Plus version with a slightly better cover, and only one at a time is reduced. Right now the discount's on the standard Original, with a double on sale for just £399.20. You'll get a 200-night trial and 10-year guarantee too.
DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid mattress: was £949 now from £408.07 at DreamCloud
The DreamCloud is an outstanding all-rounder that should be great fit for most sleepers. It has a medium-firm feel and delivers excellent motion isolation and fantastic edge support. While the temperature regulation could be better, on the whole this mattress gives you a lot for a pretty reasonable price.
- Best for: Hotel-style feel

DreamCloud's been taking a strangely specific 57% off its luxury hybrid mattress for a while now, as well as including a bedding set when you buy. This brings the price of a double down to £709.07, which we think is top value for a mattress of this quality.
REM-Fit Pocket 1000 Hybrid mattress: was £529 now from £211.60 at REM-Fit
REM-Fit specialises in sleep and recovery technology, and its mattresses generally impress us. If you're on a budget, the low-priced REM-Fit Pocket 1000 Hybrid is well worth a look. It has a medium-firm feel and provides great support for both side and back sleepers, with surprisingly good motion isolation, although its temperature regulation and edge support aren't so great. Impressive performance considering the price, though.
- Best for: Side sleepers on a budget

Mattress deals tips: when and how to shop them
You should rarely have to pay the full price for a mattress because new sales are running all the time. To ensure you get the best possible deal, check the original price of the mattress on the manufacturer's website, and search for any discount codes that can be applied to bring the price down further, such as Avocado Mattress coupon codes, Nectar coupon codes and Purple promo codes.
While doing so, look out for any other incentives that are being offered – for example, some manufacturers give away bedding bundles as part of the deal. This could include their best mattress protector for safeguarding your bed from stains and spills, as well as the best pillows for comfier sleep.
Of course, even at a discounted price, mattresses are a sizeable investment so it's important that you're entirely satisfied. With this in mind, be sure to buy one from a mattress manufacturer or retailer that offers a risk-free trial period, along with a clear and fair returns policy.
You can normally find offers on the best mattress toppers during monthly mattress sales too, and these are great if you need a comfort boost for an older bed but can't stretch to a new mattress just yet.
The best mattress deals normally land towards the end of November when the Black Friday mattress deals start rolling in, as manufacturers drop their prices and serve up big discounts. These sales then roll over into the first Monday directly after Black Friday, when we see all the Cyber Monday mattress deals arrive. However traditional sales events also bring increased discounts; in the US these include Presidents' Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day, while in the UK you'll often see Boxing Day, Easter and summer sales.

Best mattress deals: how we test
Testing mattresses isn't for the faint-hearted, and at TechRadar we take it very seriously indeed. Our expert reviewers sleep on each mattress they test for at least three weeks, ensuring they try them out in every sleeping position, and often calling in volunteers to try the mattresses as well.
We rate each mattress according to the factors that will matter to you, from the basics such as design, comfort and support, through to important aspects such as temperature regulation, motion isolation and edge support, as well as details including customer service and of course price and value for money.
Although comfort can be subjective, we also run standardised tests on each mattress, using weights to accurately gauge factors such as firmness, motion isolation and edge support. And for a wider view, we also take other reviews into account where they're available.
It's hard work, but the end results are worth the effort. When you read a mattress review on TechRadar you can be sure that we've put the hours in, and that the final verdict is one that you can depend on.
Best mattress deals: how to choose
One thing we're well aware of here is that for the majority of people, choosing a new mattress can feel like a complete shot in the dark. Most of us simply aren't up to speed with what's going on in the world of mattresses; we only buy them every few years and when we do, there are so many options available that it's easy to feel overwhelmed.
However with a bit of thought it becomes easier to narrow down all the options. Think about your usual sleeping position; if you're a side sleeper, a softer mattress will suit you best, and the best memory foam mattress is more likely to give your hips and shoulders the cushioning they need. Stomach and back sleepers will get on better with firmer beds, and the best hybrid mattresses, made with both foam and springs, will provide more responsive all-over support.
Other things to bear in mind are whether you share with a restless partner, in which case you'll benefit from a mattress with strong motion isolation, while if you tend to get hot in the night there are cooling mattresses that can keep temperatures down.
Finally you should think about your budget. Basically you get what you pay for when you buy a mattress, and considering that you spend roughly a third of your life in bed, you should aim to invest in a bed that'll keep you comfortable and supported the whole time. A cheap mattress only seems like a bargain until you realise that its shortcomings are robbing you of precious sleep.
