New Delhi: A 36-year-old man from Nepal, who allegedly stabbed his wife's suspected lover in outer Delhi's Bhalswa Dairy area in November, was arrested following a cross-border search operation. The accused was caught in Delhi two days ago when he returned to check if the man had succumbed to his stab wounds.
According to a TOI report, earlier, the accused, who was working in Kuwait, received a divorce request from his wife. After discovering her alleged relationship with a co-worker, he initiated an obsessive surveillance operation that spanned from Nepal to Mumbai and Delhi. A senior police officer from the Outer North Delhi district said, "The accused exhibited an alarming pattern of stalking, meticulously tracking his target across multiple cities," as quoted by TOI.
For around three months, he travelled between Nepal and Delhi several times and stayed near his wife's rented accommodation in the city to observe their movements. He maintained detailed observations of their daily routines and travel patterns, the TOI report said.
The situation turned violent on November 23 when the accused confronted and repeatedly stabbed the 32-year-old man near his Mukundpur residence. After the assault, he fled to the Nepal border, where he attempted to evade arrest by frequently changing his phone numbers. He was even planning to assume a new identity. The officer said, "Our teams conducted a 30-day search operation along the Nepal border. We even spoke to the authorities concerned in Nepal, worked with our informants, and used technical surveillance to track his movements," as quoted by TOI.
The officer stated that a solid lead was received just two days ago when intelligence sources alerted the police about the accused's return to Delhi. The officer added, "He came back to verify if the victim died during treatment. He might have been planning another attack," as quoted by TOI.
The report mentioned that the victim, who was critical, has now recovered substantially but is still under observation. During interrogation, the accused revealed how he left his job to pursue what became an obsessive vendetta. Further, police have registered a case under section 109 (attempted murder) of the IPC at the Bhalswa Dairy police station, the TOI report said.
