Basically, many prisoners were charged with similar crimes. It is estimated that there were many hungry and naked people in the world at that time. However, it was really a heavy sentence to cross the ocean and exile people to the end of the world for such petty theft. I don't know whether it is true history or the Australian government whitewashed it for face-saving. After all, many people say that Australia is the descendant of criminals. Wouldn't it be acceptable to write the crime of the ancestors as lighter? The most incomprehensible attraction in Port Arthur is the Island of the Dead.
