Tips: Apart from shuttles to the city center, Shanghai Pudong Airport also offers long-distance buses to travel to nearby cities of Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
Tickets could be bought on the bus with cash, so make sure to change some currency before you leave the airport.

It is the first commercially running maglev line in the world and is one of the fastest ways to reach downtown from Shanghai Pudong Airport. This train will take you to Longyang Road Stop in a mere 8 minutes. Here tourists can take Metro Line 2 to People’s Square if they want to go further towards the Shanghai city center.

Hongqiao Airport is another major airport in Shanghai, that mainly offers domestic and regional flights along with limited international flights. Tourists can choose between shuttle bus or metro trains to reach Hongqiao Airport from Shanghai Pudong Airport. Shuttle Bust Line 1 and Metro Line 2 connect travelers between Hongqiao Airport and Shanghai Pudong Airport.
The passengers should reach their destined airport at least 3 and a half hours before boarding their domestic flights and 5 hours before their international flights.
Chinese authorities allow citizens from 53 countries and regions to travel to Hongqiao or Pudong International Airport without a visa if their stay does not exceed 144 hours (i.e., 6 days) During this period of 6 days, tourists can travel to and explore Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangsu Provinces.
144-Hour visa-exemption transit could be applied online or after arrival.

Shanghai Airport is shaped like an H, with both terminals on either side. PVG Airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The Floor 3 is for departure and Floor 1 is for arrivals. Parking lot in the underground has been devided to multiple areas like M,N,P etc.
Terminal 1 of Shanghai Airport is shaped like a seagull from the outside. 13 out of its 28 gates are double-decker. It has 13 luggage conveyor belts; 204 check-in gates, and has a capacity of 20 million people. Gates 1-12, 14-29 and assigned for Terminal 1 along with remote gates 201-211, 533-543, 115-117, 251-255, 256-258 and 511-521.
Terminal 2 looks more like a wave and is marginally larger than Terminal 1. Terminal 2 has more levels compared to Terminal 1. Gates 50-65, 67–79, 80–98 (Gates 58–90 are used by both the C gates (assigned for domestic flights) and the D gates (assigned for international flights).
Terminal 1 operates both domestic and international flights.

Japan Airlines (JL), China Airlines (CI), Korean Airlines (KE), Sri Lankan Airlines (UL), Air France (AF), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL), T-Way Airlines (TW), Jin Air (LJ), American Delta Airlines (DL) and Qantas (QF). Shanghai Airlines (FM) and China Eastern Airlines (MU) are the only two domestic carriers that operate from Terminal 1 of Shanghai Airport.
Major international carriers on Terminal 2:
more domestic airlines such as Chongqing Airlines (OQ), Shandong Airlines (SC) Chengdu Airlines (EU), Cathay Pacific Airways (CX), Sichuan Airlines (3U), China Southern Airlines (CZ), Air China (CA), Hainan Airlines (HU), Shenzhen Airlines (ZH), Tianjin Airlines (GS), Xiamen Airlines (MF), Lucky Air (8L), Suparna Airlines (Y8), Juneyao Airlines (HO) and Spring Air (9C).
There are two ways to transfer between the 2 terminals.
From 06:00 to 00:00, you could take the free shuttle bus between Terminal 1 & 2.
Route: Gate 8 on 3F of T1 → Gate 23 on 3F of T2 → Gate 27 on 3F of T2 → Gate 1 on 3F of T1 → Gate 8 on 3F of T1

If you are departing from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, considering its size and the fact that a large number of people transit this airport every day, it is advised to reach the airport 2-3.5 hours before the departure of your flight.
International Departure:
Before the international departure from the Shanghai Pudong International Airport, visitors are required to check-in their baggage. They are then subjected to inspection and are checked for quarantine requirements. The visitors then fulfill the customs and immigration formalities before they and their bags are scanned at the security check. Once all the formalities are complete, the visitors are asked to wait before boarding their flight.
Domestic Departure:
Visitors should check-in their luggage at the check-in counters and are then subject to a security check. Upon completion of the security check, they should wait in front of the departure gate, before boarding their flight.

Closing Time for Check-in:
Check-in counters at Shanghai Pudong International Airport close 45 minutes before take-off for domestic flights and 50 minutes before take-off for international flights.

International Arrivals: Upon arrival at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, the visitors will go through an inspection and would be checked if they require quarantine facilities. Further, they will also be subject to immigration inspection. Once an immigration officer clears the visitors, they can claim their luggage at the conveyor belts. After baggage claim, visitors and their bags are inspected by the customs officer. Upon clearance at the customs, they are allowed to leave the airport.
The minimum connection time for passengers transferring in the same terminal is 80 minutes for domestic to domestic transfer, 90 minutes for domestic to the international transfer and 100 minutes for international to international transfer.
The minimum connection time between two terminals is 120 minutes for domestic to domestic transfer, 160 minutes for domestic to the international transfer and 120 minutes for international to international transfer.
To transfer between the two terminals; Terminal 1 and 2, the visitors can walk for about 10 minutes for a distance of around 1640 feet. The visitors can also opt for the free shuttle that travels between the 2 terminals.
