The old 1933 workshops’ predecessor was a slaughterhouse. After inheriting the original, uniquely designed structure , it was successfully transformed into Shanghai’s most distinctive and most creative park. The unique architectural pattern as a modern art space at the time was simply a mix of classics, and the structure is truly awesome. 1933’s biggest charm is its unique architectural style. It consists of 5 separate buildings. Its sculptural concrete ramps, crisscrossed bridges, patterned umbrella columns, and spiral ladders create a labyrinth of spiritual space. The wide architectural space is not too popular with tourists, it is a good place to shoot art movies!
Anfu Road is associated with drama. The slogan is: "Come to Anfu Road to watch drama, and visit the drama center to star in a drama", this is Shanghai Literature and Art’s representatives. The drama center constantly gathers Shanghai youths every weekend. The Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center on Anfu Road has three special features, in particular the D6 room, which is more interactive and brings different cultural impacts to the audience. If you take a taxi to Anfu Road, a driver familiar with the area may say: "Hey! Go to watch drama!"
M50, a creative park transformed from the Shanghai Textile Factory, is better known as the art fortress without walls. There are many art studios and galleries in Shanghai. The main highlight is the few kilometers of graffiti corridor along the Suzhou River, which is filled with a casual artistic atmosphere. M50 is now the largest and highest-quality contemporary art community in Shanghai. Artists can often be seen creating on the spot, as well as gallery exhibitions that create a strong cultural atmosphere along the Suzhou River.
Shanghai K11 is the first art mall on the Mainland. From the building’s exterior to the art sculptures in the mall, the exhibition space, the small brands, the 365 days of uninterrupted artistic interaction and the store’s uniue taste, it is definitely the artistic youth’s DREAM MALL! The exhibition space on K11’s ground floor is very large. Sometimes several different exhibitions are run at the same time. It is very interesting! Apart from the exhibition space and the art store, there is also a public rest area with many art-related books to read.
The MUJI flagship store has finally landed in the magic capital! The most anticipated is MUJI Books and MUJI Café & Meal, which are the first to be seen. Pick a book that MUJI sincerely recommends and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea. This hipster afternoon gets a perfect score. The products of MUJI flagship store are specially prepared for Shanghai as "limited products" that can only be bought here, including a limited color suitcase, aromatherapy machine set, and a seal engraved with Shanghai expressions. Bring lots of cash to explore the store!
Literature and art are like magic. A variety of unique Livehouses to satisfy your literary heart’s desires! It is a must-see experience that both local bands regularly sing at, with a focus on inviting overseas bands to listen to high-quality rock or folk songs. The main Livehouse in Shanghai includes MAO, Yuyintang, and Shelter. The MAO livehouse is large enough to be considered professional and is the first choice for both domestic and international big-name bands and entertainers. There is ample space and cash facilities, which will definitely make fans and bands party together.
Tongji University, Shanghai's famous century-old school. This university is famous for science and engineering, and in early spring and early April each year the whole campus suddenly becomes gentle, accompanied by the blossoming of the cherry blossom avenue. This is a famous cherry blossom spot in Shanghai, the whole road is lined with Japanese cherry blossom trees. Under the cherry tree is also a scenic spot where Tongji students take their graduation photos every year. It is very romantic to wear a graduation gown and say goodbye to the alma mater beneath the cherry blossoms. Of course, there are also very lively cherry blossom festivals, such as photography exhibitions, organized by various schools.
The newest rock’n’roll and literature festival, the Strawberry Music Festival, takes place every year in May. Don't think too much about the performance, or how much the band knows. Come here and you will say, “oh, it’s cool!” Go to the Strawberry Music Festival and experience an endless moment that induces goosebumps from head to toe. The Strawberry Music Festival is held annually on the May 1 holiday, show up on time. The three-day Shanghai Strawberry Music Festival features over 100 bands and artists to set up a variety of themed stages. The most fun of course, is that there are all sorts of stalls and the literary youth competition!
