Queenstown is also one of the most popular vacationing spots in New Zealand. Even if you’re not a fan of outdoor extreme sports, you can take sightseeing cable cars or boat tours, go for a wine tasting or a spa session. There’s something for everyone here.
The Skyline Queenstown is located at the top of Bob’s Peak. It has the steepest gondola tracks in the Southern Hemisphere. This is the best vantage spot to see Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu and nearby mountains. You can enjoy scooter rides, bungee jumping, high-altitude hand-gliding, paragliding and many other outdoor activities.
Skyline Restaurant, a famous restaurant located at the peak was once rated by ABC as the restaurant with the “best view in the world”. You can see Queenstown’s scenery here while enjoying tasty seafood buffets and fresh catches from New Zealand’s waters. There are also Maori cultural shows every night, be sure not to miss it.
If the sky is clear, make sure you go for some stargazing on the mountain top at night. There are professional guides and stargazing equipment here to offer you an unforgettable night.
Take the TSS Earnslaw for a tour on Lake Wakatipu, then head to the Highland Farms to see how lambs are sheared. These are all things that every visitor would check out when visiting Queenstown.
This steamboat is the same age as the Titanic; it’s over 100 years old. During this 90 minute steamboat ride, you can visit the engine room and see the massive steam engine at work. Also check out historic photos in the mini museum or the cruise deck, or sing along to the pianist playing live aboard.
You can get off the boat once you reach the Walter Peak Highlands Ranch and enjoy various activities at the farm. This includes the shearing show, petting zoos, horse rides, an English high tea, BBQ sessions and more.
Onsen Hot Pool is a pretty new place and it is sort of like a spa. A massive wooden tub is placed inside a single room and is filled with hot water. Each tub can accommodate 1 to 4 people. The most unique thing is that in every room you can open up a skylight window at the press of a button. You’d then be feasting your eyes upon luscious hills and blue waters outside.
Arthurs Point is located 7 km from Queenstown. After a day of adventure and fun at Queenstown, it’s a great place to relax and go for a soak here in the nature and wash away your fatigue and stress.
There are many packages to choose from. Couples can go for a candlelight meal and enjoy a romantic evening under the stars. Lit up the incense, take a sip of champagne and gaze away - it’s going to be a romantic experience.
On the outskirts of Queenstown there are some 20 vineyards. The best way to visit is to join in a local tour. Not only can you maximize your time and visit vineyards in a streamlined itinerary, you can also go for wine tastings. This is a way to enhance your knowledge about wine visually and gastronomically so. This is a great option for those who love wine.
Queestown Wine Trail offers an ORIGINAL wine tasting tour which takes you to 4 vineyards. You may also choose the wine and food SAMPLER tour, or a private, custom-made wine tour all for you and your party.
The Walter Peak High Country Farm is located at the Southwest of Lake Wakatipu. This English farm is located at the foot of Walter Peak and is across from Queenstown. You can take the TSS Earnslaw to go there.
The best thing about the farm is the shearing of lambs and sheep. A puffy sheep gets pushed and shoved onto the podium; it then get sheared very quickly. The way they look at you while getting sheared - they look like they are close to tears - it’s pretty darn funny.
Here you can also get an English high tea, a BBQ lunch or dinner. If you are interested, go for a horse ride and see the countryside around you, or join in a mountain biking tour at Walter Peak or check out the highland farm.
A place to visit at night, the Minus 5° Ice Bar. You’ll find everything here carved out in ice, from the walls, pillars, tables and chairs, sculpture and even wine glasses! You’ll put on thick cotton coats in the waiting area. Sip away on your cocktail and have selfies with the ice sculptures. It’s fun!
