Nice's Most Beautiful Scenery

The Grand Corniche refers to the M/D2564 from Nice, passing through the towns of Eze, Monaco and La Turbie, leading to Menton. Known as the “most scenic drive” at the Côte d'Azur, this road passes the coastline along the cliffs, bushes, the Principality of Monaco, as well as the last two remaining Roman Victory Monuments in the world ... ..

It is recommended to stop by the roadside of the La Grande Corniche near Eze for a picnic with a view overlooking the small stone town in the sea. Continuing forward, you can see La Turbie on the headlands that overlooks the yachts filled cityscape of Monaco and the Trophee des Alpes that is built in the 6th century BC.

From May to October every year, the Train des Pignes operates between Nice and Digne-les-Bains at leisurely speeds among the mountains and the sea, stopping at a dozen or so small towns where you can admire the palm trees and migratory birds, the snow-covered mountainpeaks, and finally arrive at Digne-les-Bains at Provence, where you enjoy fields of lavender and fun in soaking into hot springs.

The train passes through a number of special attractions: the Alpine town at 1000 m above sea level: Saint-André offering skydiving and other high-altitude activities; the medieval town of Annot that is known for its blue, green and golden rocks, as well as the famous hiking route towns: Le Fûgeret and small towns lying deep in the La Vallée duVaïre.

If you are short on time, you can take a ride to Entrevaux, a medieval village famous for its natural beauty and castles, which is only a 1.5-hour drive from Nice.

Low cliff road (Corniche inferieure) refers to the N98 from west to east via Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, and Plage d’ Eze and Cap d'Ail. This road is very affordable when taking the No.100 bus between Nice and Menton at €1 or bus No. 81 between Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer and Saint -Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

As several small towns along the scenic routes are known for their soft-pastel colored ports, you can easily see the white yachts and sailboats on the sea and beaches. This road closes to the railway line between Nice and Ventimiglia, Italy, which is an ideal trip for those who plan to visit both countries.

Mercantour National Park (Parc National du Mercantour) is located approximately 50 km from northern Nice, close to the Italian border, and is made up of 6 canyons. The French describe it as “the last pure virgin land in France”. There are no residents in the core area, only some villages scattered around. The more popular among the 6 canyons are Ubaye, Vesubie, and Merveilles.

Ubaye is known for its outdoor activities. The Pra Loup ski resort is one of the best ski resorts in Europe, and the only town in the surrounding area: Basronette is famous for its Mexican heritage; Vesubie is called “Little Switzerland”. You can visit the life of wild wolves; the Vallée des Merveilles, translating to “Valley of Wonders,” has the world's largest and highest number of bronze stone carving depicting the image of humans and animals.
