I chose the Holiday Inn for my business trip due to the location and only 1 other hotel with good reviews in the area. Check In was great, I used the app and went to the front desk for a key. They were very cordial and helpful with the process, check out was just as smooth. I didn’t indulge on breakfast as I wanted to try the Biscuitville across the street. Now, for the not so good. I stayed in a King room with a couch. You could tell the hotel was older, which is fine, but the cleanliness was less that desired. The couch was horrible, I know kids spill things, but eventually it is time to just throw it out…it was absolutely time. The bed was comfortable, but the bedding was old. The duvet was threaded and strings were showing. Again, easy fix. The lamps had dust, bad! It had been a while since the room had been dusted. The bathroom felt dirty, mostly bc whoever did the work was careless with the caulk, and I know that is hard to clean and gets moldy. It did need a new shower curtain liner and the floor looked as if it had not been swept. Let’s just say, hair in the floor in multiple places. Again, it needed a good cleaning. Needless to say, I was disappointed after reading the good reviews. I am planning another trip to Albamarle, but I believe I will be giving the other highly rated hotel a try this time.
True, the property is under renovation, so there are a lot of distracting supplies. But the comfort of the beds, plenty of hot water, and a tasty enough breakfast all made the stay worthwhile. The staff is what earns this property 5 stars! From the reservation clerk - Linda - who assisted with room changes, to the above and beyond Lois who ensured our large family could gather easily in the reception area, and every other staff member who we encountered, these all made our stay pleasant. Thank you to all.
