The entire place was freezing, likely due to poor heating facilities, which wasn’t ideal with the winter weather. Our room also had the ***** lights fall down as well as a faulty bathroom light which flickered on and off. I told the night maintenance man who was very apologetic and lovely, but when I told the staff in the morning they said ‘sorry’ and swiftly moved on which wasn’t great customer service. Moving onto the food, it was pretty awful. The food, especially in the evening, is so bland. My mother-in-law even had to send hers back due to it tasting of nothing and she really isn’t the type to complain. I paid an extra £10 supplement for a medium rare steak and it came out basically raw. The starters and desserts are okay but nothing special. The also advertised a burrata salad and then served it with mozzarella? That is not the same thing and I was pretty frustrated. The spa facilities were also okay - the hydrotherapy pool was lukewarm temperature at best and I found it cold to be honest. I didn’t use the pool. The steam room in the changing room area was nice. The massage treatments we received were also nice, however the speaker was dying during 10 mins of my massage which is not the therapists fault but doesn’t give a great experience. She did apologise and give me a body wash. Moreover, I had another treatment which required me to shower and everything was great apart from the state of the shower! It was very very old fashioned and looked like a shower you’d get in a rural European apartment - yellow and tired. The door had faded / tacky markings and also no handle so you had to push / pull to try and get in and out. Despite this the therapists were beyond lovely and were the best part of my stay and are the only reason the ranking isn’t 1/5. I hope other Champneys resorts are better.
