Montage Deer Valley was overall a big disappointment . This was a special occasion so we decided to go for luxury. To be honest, it was basically "expensive" and not luxury, or maybe my idea of luxury is different than others. Here is the list of pros and cons.... Pros 1. Beautiful property 2. Spacious suite (although that came at a price) 3. Shuttle to & from town (which you need !) 4. Shuttle drivers were the best employees at the property.. very friendly, helpful, & knowledgeable. 5. Lovely live music & ambience in the lounge area in the evenings. Cons 1. Room: heat system was weird.. constantly blowing and never could get temperature to adjust. 2. No coffee maker... just an espresso machine that didn't really work very well and also tasted terrible. Also, no microwave. Just a small fridge. 3. Concierge mailed brochure that said "free coffee" in Vista lounge from 6-8am, and went to get some & they said that was wrong it was 5-7am (who is getting up at that hour for free coffee on vacation?). Told me I could buy it at the coffee shop , which I did and it was terrible and then the worker asked for a tip saying " can you help a girl out?" Also, coffee shop closes at 2pm, so if you want coffee after 2pm you are out of luck. I feel like having complimentary coffee in the lounge area for guests all day is a no-brainer, especially in cold weather. 4. First night we went to Burgers & Bourbon for dinner. We ordered cocktails ... I ordered a margarita & the waitress asked what kind of tequila I wanted in my drink & then recommended one. It was ok.. nothing special... when the bill came it was $65.00 (she failed to tell me that the tequila she recommended was "something special." Seriously... it what world was I in? I had the chili and it was very salty so I only ate about 1/3 of it. My husband had a burger and he said it was good, but nothing special. 5. Second day I had altitude sickness pretty badly..... several employees kept encouraging me to order the "altitude tea," and how well it worked. So I finally called room service and ordered it. 15 minutes later they called and told me they were out of it. geez 6. Same day I ordered chicken noodle soup from room service. It was meh & $34 including the tip. 7. Basically, we had to go off property to get an interesting meal that wasn't completely overpriced for what it was. (I highly suggest dinner at Chimayo on Main St.) 8. You have to valet park.. no option to park yourself & they charge $50 a day for valet. We came and went a fair amount so that was annoying and tipping gets old when you don't have an option to do it yourself. 9. Fees: Just be aware that fees are costly... in addition to our room we paid $200 a day in additional fees and taxes. Just fyi 10. Apparently dogs can stay at this "luxury" hotel. There were a few dogs near our suite and they would bark off & on, day & night. (I love dogs, but really?) Maybe none of this would have bothered us so mu
