Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Traditional Experience in Poiana Brasov
If you plan to visit Romania in the cold season, you will certainly be tempted ti choose Brașov and its surroundings as your holiday destination.
Durring your stay, I recommend to make a reservation at the restaurant “Stâna Turistică Sergiana”, near Poiana Brașov. The reservation is needed because there are many people, in particular foreign tourists, standing in line just to enter the restaurant.
You can call a taxi from Brasov city to Poiana Brașov which is at a distance of 13 km, a 20 mins ride.
I hope you enjoy your stay! ❤️🇹🇩#2023travelwish #mytripvlog #foodie #romania
Visit Dracula’s castle in Romania
What better place to be at in the spirit of Halloween than to visit Bran’s Castle, also known as Dracula’s castle in Transylvania, Romania?
The name came about as the author of the horror novel Dracula, Bram Stoker, set this castle as Count Dracula’s residence in the story. The interesting thing is that he never actually visited this castle but the castle came from his own imagination based on the picture of Bran Castle that he had seen.
While the name itself may sound intimidating, it is actually not that scary in real life. In fact, the castle itself was occupied by a royal family, before being acquired as a private museum for both locals and tourists alike.
This castle is actually very popular, and it was crowded when I was there. The souvenir shops outside the castle are selling Halloween themed souvenirs that look more intimidating such as shirts with black cat motifs.

Brasov is beautiful and pretty.
Getting There - The app flight updates were about 20 minutes later than everyone else's dispute the fact I had the web page up and the app open. Luckily our flight was t cancelled with WizAir but sure to their reviews, they didn't leave on time but left 2 hours late. We got there eventually but wouldn't recommend the airline if you want to get somewhere on time and don't mind missing a few hours of your holiday...
Attractions - Go to Brasov! it's wonderful and much better than the touristy places such as Bucharest. Check out the mountain trails and roads and see the old WW2 castles, forts and Dracula's castle! it's worth the journey!
Hotels - No point, go and do an AirBnB! ours was immaculate and right in the town for less than a hotel. We even had a whole apartment.
Food & Restaurants - Seek out Ma Goscote or at least try some local 'traditional' cuisine. Be prepared to go into a food coma though.
Shopping - Again, go to Brasov! The malls/Shopping centres there are immaculate and will provide you and even the kids with a day's worth of entertainment. Arcades, cinemas, restaurants, shops, classy shops and some adventure attractions await. #brasov

[Travel around Eastern Europe] Vampire Castle
train into the layers of the mountains of Transylvania, the weather becomes gloomy. When it arrived at Bran Castles, it was overcast and it seemed to be a good day for vampires to go out. This is the castle inhabited by the Count of Dracula in the novel, and in fact the archetype of Vampire's archetype, Vlad, is associated with the castle for a few months when he was imprisoned as a combat prisoner.
The original owner of the castle was the Romanian royal family. After the death of Queen Mary, she was passed to Princess Ileana. Socialist Romania overthrew the royal family to confiscate the castle, and the princess family went into exile in the United States. In 1989, the new government came to power. Ten years later, the castle was finally returned to the descendants of Princess Ileana.
The legend of the vampire made Bran Castle the most popular castle in Romania, but it is hard to feel the atmosphere of Count Dracula here. It is a sigh of excitement in the historical torrent of the castle owner's royal family.

Beautiful Brasov
The Jewell of Transylvania, Brasov may not been high up on most people’s list for European city breaks but its lack of fame may actually be a good thing leaving visitors free to explore without the usual crowd of tourists.
The city is a perfectly preserved piece of history representing a lost grandeur that was once commonplace in Romania. Highlights in the city include the historic centre and the world’s narrowest street #romania #transylvania #voyagevibes
Romania-Brasov-Day View
Day 8 of road trip. Day view of Brasov looks busy on a weekday with many people and cars on the streets. Instead of traffic lights there are countless roundabouts in Romania and they are all very confusing to me (in my memory there is only 1 roundabout in Singapore). The buildings have a very unique traditional look and many are very instaworthy. Overall Romania is a very nice place and it feels quite safe to walk around at night.
Romania-Brasov- Night View
Day 7 of road trip. Took a 5 hours drive from Bulgaria to Romania Brasov. Was initially quite worried about crossing the border as this is my first time on a self drive trip across countries in Europe. Luckily it was a breeze. Cost was 4 Lev, payable by credit card. Remember to ensure you have the car documentations ready (green card / car registration / license). Not much time left today took a casual walk around Council Square and had dinner at a restaurant name Massimo. Food is fantastic!

Romania's Enchanting Ancient City - Brasov
Brasov, located in the heart of Romania, is a charming city that perfectly blends medieval allure with modern vibrancy. Nestled at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, it serves as the gateway to the mysterious region of Transylvania. Known for its picturesque landscapes, rich history, and welcoming atmosphere, Brasov is a must-visit destination for travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation.
The history of Brasov is as rich and colorful as the region it resides in. Founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211, the city quickly became an important commercial hub due to its strategic location. Over the centuries, Brasov has been influenced by various cultures, including Saxons, Hungarians, and Romanians, each leaving their mark on the city's architecture and traditions. The medieval fortifications built to defend against invasions still stand today, offering a glimpse into the city's long history. During the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Brasov thrived as a center of trade and culture, further cementing its significance in the region.
Brasov's architectural landscape is a testament to its rich history and cultural diversity. The city's old town is a maze of cobblestone streets lined with colorful Baroque buildings and Gothic churches. The Black Church, a striking Gothic cathedral, is one of Brasov's most iconic landmarks. Its walls, blackened by a fire in 1689, give it a unique and solemn appearance. The Council Square (Piata Sfatului) is another architectural gem, surrounded by well-preserved medieval buildings and the 15th-century Council House, now home to the Brasov County History Museum. The city's fortifications, including the White Tower and the Black Tower, offer panoramic views of Brasov and the surrounding mountains, making them popular spots for history enthusiasts and photographers.
Brasov boasts numerous attractions that appeal to all types of travelers. The Council Square is the heart of the city, where you can take leisurely strolls, enjoy coffee at cafes, or people-watch. The nearby Black Church is a testament to Gothic architecture, offering a fascinating glimpse into the city's religious history. For adventure seekers, hiking up Tampa Mountain provides breathtaking views of Brasov and the Carpathian Mountains. For those who prefer a more relaxed ascent, a cable car is available.
Another must-visit is the Rasnov Fortress, located on a hilltop outside Brasov. Built by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century, this medieval fortress offers stunning views and an in-depth look at the region's defensive history. Finally, no trip to Brasov would be complete without visiting Bran Castle, often associated with the Dracula legend. While its connection to Vlad the Impaler is tenuous, the castle's dramatic architecture and captivating exhibits make it a fascinating destination.
