China Cloisonne Museum

The China Cloisonne Museum is located in the Beijing Enamel Factory. The museum introduces the development of cloisonne in China through a large number of exhibits, pictures, objects, and videos. Cloisonne, also known as copper wire enamel, was introduced to China in the late Yuan Dynasty, reached its peak during the Jingtai period of the Ming Dynasty, and developed and changed again during the Qing Dynasty. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, cloisonne was used exclusively by the imperial court, and it began to spread among the people in the late Qing Dynasty. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, this craft was on the verge of crisis. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the government organized professionals to rescue and support this industry, which once again flourished. The cloisonne making process is divided into more than ten steps, including making the body, wire inlay, enameling, firing, polishing, and gilding. The finished cloisonne artworks have rich and colorful glazes, a variety of patterns, and a jade-like texture. Each piece is a precious work of art. The China Cloisonne Museum displays a large number of cloisonne artworks from the Republic of China and the 1950s to the present. The design and materials of these artworks have gradually changed, allowing visitors to admire the creativity and innovation of generations of Chinese cloisonne masters.
