It all began with a quiet, comfortable morning as I boarded a slow train in Wuhan. The weather was perfect for a scenic 3-hour journey, and as the train began its slow trek toward Changsha, I settled into my seat, excited for the adventure ahead. My first stop was China South University, a key institution in Changsha. Not only is it a hub for education, but it’s also home to some fascinating insights into China’s railway development. I had the chance to walk around the university’s engineering departments, where students and faculty were actively working on projects aimed at improving railway systems across the country. After that, I headed to the heart of Changsha—the vibrant Wuyi Square. The moment I stepped off the bus and onto the streets, I was hit by a rush of energy. Wuyi Square is one of the city's iconic landmarks, a perfect blend of modernity and tradition. The wide, open square was bustling with activity, and the air was filled with the mouthwatering smells of street food. Changsha is famous for its spicy Hunan cuisine, and the street food scene here didn’t disappoint.
