Xiao Putuo

Xiao Putuo, also known as Xiayu, is located in the center of the vast Dongqian Lake in Ningbo, Zhejiang. It is one of the main scenic spots in the Dongqian Lake tourist resort area and has a profound cultural heritage. During the Southern Song Dynasty, there were already scenic spots such as Xiayu Zen Temple and Guanyin Cave (Putuo Cave) on the island. According to the records of 'Zhejiang General Records' and 'Yinxian General Records': Shi Hao's mother, Mrs. Ye, was a devout Buddhist who worshipped Guanyin and had long wished to go to Putuo Mountain in the South China Sea for pilgrimage. However, due to her old age and blindness, it was very inconvenient to cross the sea. Shi Hao then summoned local craftsmen to carve a cave here and establish a Guanyin dojo. After the cave was completed, he invited his mother to board the ship. The sailboat drifted in Dongqian Lake, listening to the sound of the waves and the wind, just like sailing in the sea. Three days later, she landed on Xiayu and falsely reported that she had arrived at 'Putuo Mountain in the South China Sea', fulfilling her mother's great wish.
