Borobudur: The Ancient Wonder
#Borobudur is a must-see, but get ready for an adventure! This place is massive, so brace yourself for lots of walking and climbing. Since you’re a foreign tourist, you’ll need to get a special tour ticket, which will come with a cool little package (straw flip-flops included). They’re comfy, but you might still want to wear comfortable shoes for all the steps you’ll be taking around the park.
Here’s a tip: Borobudur gets hot. It’s better to go early to avoid the midday heat, but if you’re going later, load up on sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water.
The climb up to the top is worth it, but those steps are quite something indeed —be prepared for a mini workout! And keep an eye out for the local photographers who’ll try to sell you photos. If you’re not interested, just smile and say “no” politely, or they’ll keep after you with endless offers.
When you’re ready to leave, getting out can feel like a maze. There are loads of souvenir stalls on the way to the exit, and it’s super easy to lose track of where you’re going. Stick with your group or follow the signs closely, or you might find yourself accidentally looping back!
Borobudur is a blast, though, and the views and history make every step worth it. So, get your camera ready, enjoy the ancient vibes, and have fun exploring one of Indonesia’s wonders! #borobudurtemple #travel #yogyakarta #100waysoftravel

Yogyakarta | One of the four great wonders of the East, one must see it with their own eyes
One of the four great wonders of the East, one must see it with their own eyes. In the heart of Java Island lies an ancient and mysterious temple, silently telling stories of a thousand years, hailed as one of the seven wonders of the world. Borobudur, this is not just a stupa, but also a guardian of time, waiting for every traveler to unveil its veil and experience a spiritual journey through time and space.
📍【Detailed Address】📍
Borobudur is located near the city of Yogyakarta in Central Java Province, Indonesia.
🚗【Transportation Tips】🚗
• From Yogyakarta: The most convenient way is to rent a car or book a charter service from a travel agency, which takes about 1.5 hours by car. If you want to experience the local atmosphere, you can choose to take public transportation, first taking a bus from Yogyakarta to Magelang, then transferring to local transportation to Borobudur.
• Tip: It is recommended to depart in the early morning to avoid the peak of the crowd and to witness the most stunning light and shadow show of Borobudur at sunrise.
🏛️【Must-Visit Attractions】🏛️
• Sunrise Viewing: Book a 'sunrise ticket' in advance, climb to the top of Borobudur at dawn, and watch the first rays of sunlight gently awaken the sleeping stupa, an incomparable experience.
• Explore the Stupa: Borobudur has ten levels, each carved with exquisite reliefs and Buddha statues. Savor these artistic masterpieces and feel the accumulation of a thousand years of culture.
• Guided Tour: It is recommended to hire an English-speaking guide to gain an in-depth understanding of the stories behind each stone, making the trip more profound and meaningful.
🍲【Food Recommendations】🍲
• Gudeg Yu Djum: When in Yogyakarta, don't miss the local specialty 'Gudeg', a dish of tender bamboo shoots and jackfruit slowly stewed in coconut milk, and Yu Djum is one of the most famous old brands locally.
• Sate Kambing Pawon: A grilled mutton skewer shop near Borobudur, with delicious meat and a special chili sauce, is a good choice to replenish energy.
🏞️【Recommended Surrounding Attractions】🏞️
• Prambanan Temple Complex: Not far from Borobudur, it is another important Hindu site, also worth spending half a day exploring.
• Merapi Volcano: For adventure-loving travelers, participating in a Merapi Volcano trek to feel the power of nature up close is definitely an unforgettable experience.
• Yogyakarta Palace: Back in the city of Yogyakarta, consider visiting the historic Yogyakarta Palace to experience the culture and traditions of the Javanese royal family.
🔍
Borobudur is not just a visual shock, but also a spiritual cleansing. Here, every step echoes history, and every gaze seems to travel through a thousand years. Plan your Yogyakarta trip, and let Borobudur become the most dazzling chapter in your travel memories.

Today, I set off from the hotel in Yogyakarta to Borobudur
The journey takes about an hour
Upon arrival, I got a number plate and waited in the waiting area
When entering, they will check your backpack
You can't bring food, but you can store it
You can retrieve it with your number plate when you finish
After entering, you will first change shoes and get a bottle of water
Soft-soled straw shoes, quite comfortable, and you can take them away (probably to protect the relics
In the waiting area, they will call numbers to assign different tour guides
The guide will take you in, with explanations in English about the history (it's really hard to understand the rolled tongue English, just follow the group
After a while, you can go up and do whatever you want, take pictures, check in, etc.
From the highest point on the top of the mountain, you can see the mountains, it feels like you are at the center of the world
You need to buy a separate ticket to reach the top
But I directly joined a day tour group of Borobudur + Prambanan, which included it
I stayed there for about an hour, and my arms were sunburned
Everyone remember to do sun protection (it's a must, directly exposed to the sun, there is no shade

Borobudur, Borobudur or Borobudur, Indonesia
Borobudur (Borobudur) Borobudur or Borobudur or Javanese write Barabudur (Barabudur) is Sanskrit. The word Bara comes from the word Biara, which means a temple (Vihara) or temple. The word Budur means a high mountain. When combined, it means a temple built on a high mountain.
Dharma center Borobudur, one of the seven wonders of the world, is located in central Java, about 40 kilometers northwest of Yogyakarta. It was built between 1293 - 1393. Borobudur is a religious site of Mahayana Buddhism. If you do not count Angkor Wat in Cambodia, which is both a religious site of Brahman-Hinduism and Buddhism, Borobudur will be the largest Buddhist religious site in the world. In 1991, UNESCO announced Borobudur as a World Heritage Site.
About 40 kilometers northwest of Yogyakarta, is the Borobudur made of Andesite, a huge volcanic rock, about 15 meters high. The exterior is shaped like a lotus flower, a symbol of Buddhism. According to historical evidence, the area around Borobudur is a lowland surrounded by water from the Progo River. Therefore, it can be said that the ancient Borobudur pagoda is like a lotus flower floating in the water. Borobudur is an architecture influenced by Mahayana Buddhism. It is old and has the faith of the Javanese people. In the history of the Sailendra dynasty, until today, anyone who travels to Indonesia must visit Borobudur. #Waiting for the day to travel #Travel in Indonesia

Captivated by the Ancient Architecture
Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, located on the island of Central Java. This temple was built in the ninth century AD. At that time, Indonesia was still a Buddhist kingdom (Syailendra dynasty).
The temple was built to serve as a place of worship for Buddhists. Seen from above, Borobudur looks like a large Mandala, representing the human journey from reincarnation (samsara) to nirvana (nirvana).
The Borobudur Temple has 9 floors (6 square terraces and 3 circular terraces). This terraced world is divided into three levels: Kamadhatu (the lowest is the world of desire), Rupadhatu (the middle is the real world) and Arupadhatu (the circular platform is the world of spirit).
The platform of Borobudur Temple is higher and smaller. There are also four staircases in four sections (east, south, west, north). Borobudur consists of 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. There is a main pagoda in the highest upper part, surrounded by 72 pagodas

Borobudur Temple built in the 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty. It located around 40 kilometers northwest of Yogyakarta 85 minutes drive. And in an elevated area between two volcanoes, Sundoro-Sumbing and Merbabu-Merapi, and two rivers, the Progo and the Elo.
Borobudur is built as a single large stupa and when view from above. The original foundation is a square and the upper three are circle. The upper platform contains seventy two small stupas surrounding one large central stupa. Each stupa is bell shaped and pierced by numerous decorative openings, with statue of Buddha sitting inside.
Together with Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Bagan in Myanmar, Borobudur ranks as one of the great cultural icons of Southeast Asia, so you must visit this great monument at least once in the lifetime.

Borobudur Temple Compounds This famous Buddhist temple, dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, is located in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. 1 Hour distance from yogyakarta city. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,500 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. The monument was restored with UNESCO's help in the 1970s.
The Borobudur sunrise is best from the Manohara hotel. The entry fee is 450k IDR per person, but it is worthy. The ticket also includes a buffet breakfast and a souvenir.
The sunrise from the top of the temple oversees a huge valley though it was nothing like pictures I had seen. The sun rises early in Indonesia and you must reach the temple by 5 AM.
I got a cloudy sky on the day and the sun was seen only at 6 30 AM. It gets hot every minute after 7 AM so you must finish the temple walk quickly.

Miss you … Friend in Niwarna
Four bff visited this sacred and glorious temple just before the covid confinement, never imagined it would be the last oversea trip where one of us will be gone forever due to covid. Friend…. we miss you tremendously.
Borobudur temple is situated about 2 hrs drive away from Jogjakarta, we stay at The Phoenix Hotel Jogjakarta right in the centre of the city. it was beautiful and elegant hotel. Rooms are spacious and with a touch of Indonesia feel.
we woke up at 4am and rented a car. We are eager to see the magnificent sunrise made famous by this historical temple. OMG.. it was beautiful. Beautiful sight that is rarely seen elsewhere. My gone bff was a avid selfie guy. I think he must have taken hundreds of selfie that day. In a way, these photos let us remember his physical image for a long time to come.
Apart from Borobudur, there are lots of other great sites to visit. we were in a way quite fortunate, few weeks after our visit to the volcano mountain, it erupted and injured quite a few.
This was a trip that holds quite a important scale in my heart. It was a trip to remember the friendship and the cruelty of the covid pandemic.
I pray that the world will soon recovered and we have a better future to look forward to.

BOROBUDUR TEMPLE
Borobudur Temple is located in Magelang, Central Java. Borobudur Temple is a Buddhist temple built in a hilly area.
Referring to the concept of Buddhist cosmology, Borobudur Temple is likened to Meru or the mountain that is the link between heaven and the world. This mountain stands in a location surrounded by mountains, sea, and big rivers.
With that in mind, Borobudur Temple was built at its current location, surrounded by hills, mountains, and mountains, namely Mount Merapi, Merbabu, Andong, Sumbing, Sindoro, Tidar, and the Menoreh Mountains.
In the area also flows water from major rivers, such as the Elo River, Progo, Sileng, and the ancient lake Borobudur. Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple in the 19th century, has an area of approximately 123 x 123 meters.
The meaning of the name Borobudur is explained by many theories. Some sources believe that Borobudur originated from Bore-Budur which was probably written by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles in the book History of Java Island in English grammar to refer to the village closest to the temple, namely the village of Bore.
He also suspects that the term 'Budur' is related to Buda in Javanese which means ancient. Other archaeologists think the name Budur comes from Bhudhara which means mountain.

Moments at The Borobudur Tample, Jogja
The beauty of Borobudur and all its glory is not only intriguing for its visitors in the daytime, but there is also a growing interest to relish the temple’s grandiose at sunrise.
While the temple entrance officially opens at 6 am, sunrise hunters could be in the vicinity of the temple around 5 am to catch the stunning temple from the pitch black of dawn to the break of morning light. As the lights slowly uncover each part of the temple from the platform, the statues, stupas, and the carvings, it all turns into a breathtaking view.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is located approximately 40 kilometers northwest of Yogyakarta, about a one-hour drive from Yogya. Constructed around the 8th and 9th centuries in the reign of the Syailendra Dynasty, Borobudur’s charm lies in its unique architectural design. It covers an enormous area, measuring 123 x 123 meters. Around the platforms are 72 stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha.
There are three museums around Borobudur to explore: Borobudur Museum, Samudraraksa Ship Museum (Museum Kapal Samudraraksa) and Museum MURI. All these museums are open until 5 pm daily.
The Borobudur Museum holds a number of archeological artifacts as well as some of the rummage of the temple such as the unfinished giant Buddha statue. Rumor has it, the statue was supposedly the inner statue of the largest stupa located at the top of the temple.

The biggest Buddhist temple in the world
Borobudur Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Built in the 9th century, Borobudur Temple is now a magnet capable of attracting millions of tourists every year. Very beautiful place with lots of history. I’d recommend to have a guide or look up the information regarding this temple to learn the significance of the carvings and structures. Come during weekday or early in the morning to avoid the crowds. I came on a weekend one time and it was too crowded. You have to take a flight of stairs to get to the top, it wasn’t so bad but beware of the hot weather though! 🏰⛅️🌟🍃🌿 #roadtrip #urbanexplorer #historicculture #summervacation

Borobudur Temple
Pictures can't truly describe how magnificent and impressive that Borobudur Temple is. You've got to see it in person, walk around the different sides of the structure, and leisurely stroll through the different levels of Borobudur Temple to soak it all in.
Borobudur is a huge 8th century Buddhist Temple with some excellent stone carvings, It has been wonderfully restored and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The history of the monument and of the Buddhist culture is not to be missed. Keep in mind there are very steep steps so wear appropriate shoes. Be warned that access around the site is difficult if you have some mobility challenges - there are lots of steps to climb and these steps are steep although some staircases had hand rails. It can also get very hot although it wasn't so hot on our visit.

The magnificent Borobudur Temple is one of tourist destination in Java Island, Indonesia. We travel to enjoy sunrise tour. It presented beautiful scenery of nature. We could see mountains and green ambience that was great and breathtaking. Our travel started by walking in the morning from hotel to Borobudur Temple. Then, we hiked the stairs along to reach the top of temple. At the evening, there was sunset tour, too.

Before going to Yogyakarta, Borobudur was still a mystery to me. Although I was full of yearning for this mysterious country, I have never had the opportunity to set foot. When people talk about Indonesia, I only know Bali. And Borobudur, it is the business card of Yogyakarta, and it is the first impression of the world. It is in my heart, not a broken wall, not a poor one, but a miraculous civilization.
Into Borobudur, at 4 o'clock in the morning, the sunrise is gradually rising, and then slowly becomes a cloudless blue sky. It is also a famous attraction in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, one of the world's cultural heritages, and the largest Buddhist architectural relic in the world. It is also known as the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal in India, and the Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Walking down the stupa and looking up, as if feeling a gentle gaze, encountering the innocent smile of the enthusiastic children

Borobudur, the four great wonders of the ancient East, a sunrise that must be seen in life!!
: Saving a person's life to build a seven-level floating squad, the most famous in Yogyakarta, I think it may be this Borobudur. The "Buddha Temple at the Peak" in Indonesia and the Great Wall, Taj Mahal, and Angkor Wat are called the four great wonders of the ancient East. The earliest history of
Borobudur can be traced back to the 9th century. It was buried in volcanic ash for hundreds of years and was built by the ruling rulers of the time. Now, if you can at dawn, you can enjoy it at the Borobudur site. The beautiful sunrise is said to be the purest experience and the best blessings.
The most you can enjoy in Borobudur is the relief on the stone walls on both sides of the cloister, each of which is history and epic recorded by the stone. Lifelike and complex, you will be sighed by the fact that there are such art treasures in the 9th century.
slowly climb up and circle along the layers. Everyone who comes here tries to understand a little more here. There is a kind of beauty called incomplete beauty, where missing beauty is played. The rock that has been soaked in volcanic ash has a gray-black tone. Some people say that such "disability" and "regret" make this place so attractive.
Due to the terrain and the weather, the place where Borobudur is located is surrounded by fog and clouds all the year round, so it is very difficult to see the sunrise here, and more you need a lucky one to see. It has also been said that as long as you come here with three years of devout heart and faith, you will definitely see it. But most people have no chance to do so, so the sunrise of Borobudur was also recommended by CNN as a must-see for a lifetime.
If you have seen Angkor, Borobudur is not so magnificent, but quietly walks here, as if the Buddhas past glory is in front of you, the Qur'an is ringing in the ear, the ordinary you and me, small as small A fine sand, the world is impermanent.
Tickets:
It is recommended that the purchase price of Plananan and Borobudur directly is about US32, which is quite uneconomical if you buy it separately.
About taking pictures:
Most of the scenes here have been corroded for a long time. Although they can sit or touch, they still need to be careful. Sunrise is very difficult to see. If you can't see the sunrise, then watch the sunset.
Equipment:
Just a little, remember to bring a camera, sunrise and sunset is the most beautiful, but not very friendly to the phone.

When I learned that I was going to Indonesia, what I was most looking forward to during the entire trip was the Borobudur in Yogyakarta. Although this was the first time I went to Indonesia, I knew and saw many Borobudurs long ago. photo. The remains of the largest Buddhist complex in the world, together with the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal of India, and the Angkor Wat of Cambodia, are known as the four great wonders of the ancient East. Such important and exquisite historical sites must be Arriving in person, as soon as you see it, you will fall in love at first sight.
Borobudur at sunrise is definitely not to be missed. It was once named by CNN in 2012 as one of the 27 musts in this life. It is recommended to stay in a hotel around Borobudur. It is more convenient to watch the sunrise, because it is about to go around 4 am, and go to the top of the tower to wait for the sunrise.
