Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. The old Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building with red brick walls in a snow-white world.
Hokkaidō Government Office, Sapporo Old Metropolitan Government Office, Hokkaido
The outdoor temperature at that time was about three degrees, and snow was falling in the sky. Hot kombu soup was provided at the entrance of the Old City Hall. When taking photos, the staff even stepped forward to help take photos.
If it’s too cold, you can visit the Old Capital Building and blow on the heater to warm up.

The Former Hokkaido Government Office was used for approximately 80 years until the new government office currently in use was built. It’s sunny! Look at that blue Sapporo
The last stop of this trip is Sapporo. When we arrived in Sapporo, the sky was clear. Since the weather is good, let's go up to the height and have a distant view. Let's go Sapporo JR Observation Tower~
❤Reason for recommendation:
JR Tower Observation Deck "T38"! As the name suggests, it is located on the 38th floor of the JR Tower. After coming out of Sapporo Station, you will see signs for "JR Observation Room T38". First go to the 6th floor of STELLAR PLACE CENTER to buy tickets, and then take the elevator directly to the 38th floor. Since there are not many super high-rise buildings in Sapporo, you can have a sweeping view of the city from this 38th-floor observation deck!
🕙Business hours:
・[General period] 10:00~23:00 (last admission: 22:30)
・[Summer ] 9:30~23:00 (last admission: 22:30)
💰Per capita consumption:
Ticket price: 740 yen for adults, 520 yen for middle and high school students, 320 yen for elementary school students/infants
🌟Highlights:
1. The old Hokkaido Government Office Main Building: If you get off the subway Odori Station and walk for about 3 minutes, you can reach the red brick and green roof of the Hokkaido Government Office. It is built with hard stone and wood produced in Hokkaido. It has a history of more than 100 years. It is also a national protected cultural relic and is a neo-Baroque style building. It was originally used as the Hokkaido Office of administrative agencies. Now it houses a library and a memorial hall, displaying a large number of pictures and ancient documents recording the history of Hokkaido. It is a building full of cultural atmosphere.
2. "Shiroi Koibito" Chocolate Factory: This is the production place of Hokkaido's precious specialty "Shiroi Koibito" chocolate. The factory is composed of 5 parts: Area A is the entrepreneurial park, where you can buy souvenirs; Area B is the museum, which collects a large number of chocolate-related items; Area C is the lounge, where you can take a rest or watch pastry making; Area D is the experience workshop, where you can try your hand at making pastries; Area E is the other areas, where instructors introduce the history of chocolate development.
3. Sapporo "Krab General" Main Store: When talking about Sapporo's chocolate, we must mention "Krab General" Main Store. The Sapporo "Kani Shogun" store building has become a local landmark because of its extremely eye-catching "giant crab model" on the roof. "Crab General" store mainly provides three types of services: hot pot meals, banquet meals and set meals. The food ingredients are mainly crab meat. In addition to being delicious, the "Crab General" store has an elegant interior and exterior environment and unique decorations. It is a feast for the mouth and eyes here!
4. Odori Park and TV Tower: Odori Park is a large landmark park located in the center of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. There are various trees and flowers in the park, as well as landscapes such as urban sculptures and fountains. The park is a symbol of Sapporo City. It holds colorful activities every year, especially the Sapporo Ice and Snow Festival in winter, which attracts many tourists. The park has convenient transportation and is directly connected to Sapporo Station, making it easy to travel to various parts of Hokkaido. The Sapporo TV Tower in Japan is a landmark building located in the center of Sapporo, Hokkaido. It is 147.2 meters high and is one of the tallest buildings in Hokkaido. The tower is made of reinforced concrete and steel, with a unique shape and gleaming brilliance. There is an observation deck and restaurant inside the tower, offering beautiful views of Sapporo city and night views.
📝Note tips:
It is still recommended to come to Sapporo in the summer, as is the entire Hokkaido, unless you come here specifically for skiing! Food, drink and entertainment are relatively concentrated. Sapporo Station is one of the most important transportation hubs in Hokkaido. It gathers many JR railway lines, including the railway to and from New Chitose Airport, as well as the Toho Line and Namboku Line of the Sapporo Urban Subway. There is a large flow of commuters. Known as the crown of the North. This huge station is also a large shopping mall! It is composed of five major shopping malls, namely: Paseo, STELLAR PLACE, DAIMARU Department Store, ESTA, and APIA.

Spectacular Japan | Hokkaido | Hokkaido Government Building
Hokkaido Old Government Building
Cross through time and space in the midst of reinforced concrete.
About five minutes away from Sapporo Station.
The European-style building with red brick Baroque style that stands out in the towering skyscrapers is it.
It was the location of the highest administrative agency during the period when Hokkaido was under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the past, also known as the Old Government Building of Hokkaido or the Former Hokkaido Government Office Building, or simply referred to as the Red Brick due to its appearance, which symbolized Sapporo and even Hokkaido in the past. It has been designated as a National Important Cultural Property of Japan. Currently, the Hokkaido Government Office Building houses the Hokkaido Archives and the Hokkaido Historical Gallery, which are open to the public for free. (The building is currently undergoing renovation and is expected to be completed in March 2025.)
MindfulRetreats
Since this building allows visitors to enter for free, of course, I went in. It is such a huge place with function rooms, souvenir shops, information office, and exhibition rooms inside. They say that this place is prettiest during Spring and Summer when the garden outside blooms with colorful flowers. When I went there, it was Winter so everything was filled with Snow. They also have a pond! But, yes, when I was there it was icy.
