Easily accessible via JR Nara as it’s just one stop from Kyoto station and a 10m walk. We were lucky with the timing and got to witness the changing autumn colours - 1,000¥ pp to gain access to the garden and bridge for viewing the foliage. You can skip the paid area and still see the foliage from the bridge from the top. Very nice temple with excellent views of the fall foliage. there was a nice mix of red, orange, yellow and some green

Built in 1239, Dongfu Temple is the largest Zen temple in Kyoto and the general hospital of the Linjizong Dongfu Temple. It covers an area of 200,000 square meters. In the years of war and the fire in 1881, the temple, the court, the kitchen, and the house were burned together, and then rebuilt successively. The Tongtian Bridge in the temple is a scenic spot for viewing red leaves. The whole temple has 25 towers, and the oldest surviving mountain gate is a national-level precious cultural relic. Tourists in Kyoto are constantly changing throughout the year, from late March to late May; late September to late November is the best tourist season. The most beautiful time should be the season when the cherry blossoms bloom and the red leaves are in love. Kyoto's spring and autumn seasons are pleasant, and the degree of cold in winter is also famous. Compared with nearby towns such as Osaka and Kobe, the temperature is always 1 to 2 degrees lower. Plus, there is no equipment for the greenhouse in the temple, so be prepared for warm clothing.
