Phra Pathom Chedi is the largest pagoda in Thailand. It is located in the area of Wat Phra Pathom Chedi Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan, Nakhon Pathom Province. It is a special first-class royal temple, a type of royal temple. Inside the pagoda is the relics of the Lord Buddha. No one knows when Phra Pathom Chedi was built, but it is assumed that it was built during the reign of King Ashoka the Great, when he sent monks to spread religion. Inside, there is also a Buddhist school and a Buddhist study center.
Phra Pathom Chedi has been renovated many times, the biggest of which was during the reign of King Rama IV.
What you shouldn't miss when you come to this temple is to pay homage to Phra Ruang Rojanarit, a sacred Buddha image of Nakhon Pathom people. Locals generally call it Luang Pho Phra Ruang. It is a Sukhothai-style Buddha image, very beautiful and sacred.
Every year, on the 15th day of the waxing moon of the 12th lunar month, there is an annual event to pay homage to Phra Pathom Chedi as a festival of the province.
