Tibet Unveiled: From Lhasa's Palaces to Everest's Base
After arriving in Tibet from Chengdu, my journey began in the vibrant city of hasa.
1. Lhasa and the Majestic Potala Palace
The highlight of Lhasa was undoubtedly Potala Palace. This stunning structure is awe-inspiring, with its iconic white and red buildings set against the mountains. Exploring the palace's interiors and seeing the intricate details of its shrines, murals, and halls offered a deep insight into Tibetan history and culture. Walking through Potala, I felt the weight of centuries of devotion and the beauty of Tibet's spiritual heart.
2. Exploring Xigaze
Moving on to Xigaze, I visited Tashilhunpo Monastery, home to the Panchen Lama. Xigaze's blend of ancient Tibetan architecture and modern touches provided a fascinating glimpse into life in this unique region.
3. Everest Base Camp: The Journey to the Roof of the World
Reaching Everest Base Camp was an adventure of a lifetime. Standing at the base of Mount Everest, with its massive peak towering above, was a surreal experience. The silence, broken only by the wind, and the vastness of the landscape made this an unforgettable highlight of my Tibet trip.
4. Tibetan Cuisine: A Flavorful Discovery
Tibetan food was a delight! Hearty, flavorful dishes like momos, thukpa, and butter tea warmed me in the high altitudes. The local food adds an extra layer of cultural experience, offering a taste of traditional Tibetan life.
5. Recommendations for Traveling in Tibet
Travelers should be mindful of the altitude-Tibet is high, and the air is thin. Carrying oxygen bottles, staying hydrated, and taking it slow are essential.

Potala Palace - A place to visit once in a lifetime
Visiting the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, is an awe-inspiring experience that blends history, culture, and spirituality. The palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands majestically atop Red Mountain, offering panoramic views of Lhasa and the surrounding landscapes.
From the moment you approach the palace, its grand architecture and intricate details captivate your attention. The structure is divided into two main parts: the White Palace, which served as the administrative quarters, and the Red Palace, dedicated to religious study and Buddhist prayer. Each section is adorned with vibrant murals, ancient statues, and sacred relics, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Tibetan Buddhism.
Walking through the numerous chapels, halls, and rooms, you can feel the deep spiritual significance of the site. The golden roofs glistening in the sunlight, the aroma of burning incense, and the chants of monks create a serene and reflective atmosphere. The extensive collection of artifacts and scriptures offers a glimpse into the profound history and traditions of Tibet.
The climb to the top can be challenging due to the altitude for some as I saw many people using oxygen, but the effort is well worth it. As you ascend, you are rewarded with breathtaking views of the city below and the surrounding mountains. It's a moment of tranquility and reflection, allowing you to fully appreciate the palace's grandeur and the natural beauty of Tibet.
Worth going once in your life! #lhasa #potalapalace #tibet #potala

Songzanlin Monastery, Shangri-La
You must visit here when you arrive in Shangri-La! It is the largest Lama temple in Yunnan Province, over 300 years old. The entrance fee is 90 yuan per person. The interior is very beautiful. You can easily take a taxi to the temple, and then take a bus again. Inside the temple, you have to climb many steps to reach the top. It is recommended to bring an oxygen can and smelling salts, as they can be very helpful. On the way back, if you stay in the ancient town, you can take a bus in front of the entrance to go down to the ancient town for only 2 yuan per person.

Explore the Charming Lhasa City
Many peoples only know that Potala Palace is a Must-See in Lhasa, and actually it is. But there are more brilliant landmarks to discover in this city. When touring Lhasa, you should also not miss the Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street. While around the holy Jokhang is the bustling Barkhor Street, where you can explore the old market, as well as do kora with locals. A classic Lhasa city tour normally needs at least two days, and will let you get the first impression of Tibet. #lhasa #tibet #potalapalace #jokhangtemple #barkhorstreet #timetotravel #urbanexplorer #coupletrip #passionpassport #historicculture #unforgettableexperiences #china #travelinspiration
Go to Tibet.
Even though I generally do not like travelling with groups - your companies - Tibet was the exception I had to accept if I wanted to go. As foreigners we have to go we need a special permit that tours will help you obtain.
These are pictures of many different places during my 9 day tour in Tibet. All tour companies provide more all less the same Itinerary to groups of foreigners with the highlight being Everest base camp.
My general itinerary
- Xining to Lhasa by train for slow gain in altitude
- Lhasa - Shigatse - Gyantse - Everest Base Camp - Shigatse - Lhasa.
- with famous places visits like the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Yamdrock lake etc.
Be ready to spend most your time in a coach to move from place to place. The place is big but the views are amazing. #china #tibet #chinatravel

Tibet : expectations and reality
that's it! finally I'll go to Tibet... I thought about it, like I'm going to clean my karma and put all my thoughts in order😍 but...
there're some restrictions for foreigners... so we used one agency to plan our trip for three of us from Kunming...
there's really expensive trip and all agencies have the same programs... so we decided to go for 9 days with visiting Everest base camp🤩
I was so existed and tried not to pay attention for little disadvantages in the beginning.
first two days we spent in Lhasa. because you should used to altitude. there were already some changes and strange things... 🧐
then our trip had gotten started... we spent most of time in the bus, because we should get EBC in two days... every stop wasn't longer than 30 minutes, excluding lunch, of course (only Chinese cuisine, btw).... finally we had gotten the EBC... the weather was terrible and we all were sad... and the next morning we decided to leave a little longer to wait maybe weather become better instead of visiting one monastery ain Singatse... and the miracle came🤩 but as soon as we saw the peak we rushed to leave the base camp😒 guide assured us we should go ASAP... the next day we rushed to namtso lake, which we were going to visit the day later... so we arrived after 5pm to enjoy our time there till the park were closed🤔🤐 guide told that's because we could have more time at last day in Lhasa for shopping🤮 so finally we rushed from interesting nature spots just for shopping... that two last days in rush became the reason of my frustration😓
so the trip wasn't treatment, but vice versa I felt like I was tired and haven't enjoyed the time there...
so my expectations were much more than reality🤧
wish everyone had better trip to Tibet. it's an unreal place. it's another world😌 it worth to be seen... but plan your trip carefully according to your interests😊#tibet

The Trip Of A Lifetime - Tibet
In early October 2021, my friend Anna and I ventured to the on the adventure of a lifetime and a bucket list trip…an 8 day tour through the highest region on earth…we made our way to the Tibet Autonomous Region.
To say this trip was life changing feels accurate. There was so much to see and learn about. We saw so many famous and breathtakingly beautiful landmarks. These included lakes, glaciers, palaces, and of course, the highlight…Mount Everest Base Camp.
Pro Tip: Bring Advil and drink plenty of water! We were lucky enough to bypass the altitude sickness but there was oxygen on our bus just in case.
Booking: We booked with Joy Tours in China. They were great!
If you have a chance to visit Tibet, go! I cannot recommend it enough!

The largest salt water lake in Tibet
Words can't describe how truly majestic and serene
this place is. One of the last stops on my trip
through Tibet was NAMTSO LAKE.
This was the most vibrant lake and it stretched on
for ages. It lies at an elevation of 4,718 meters or
about 15,500 feet and is the largest salt lake in the
autonomous region.
Getting to the lake was an especially unique
experience. After checking in to get out entrance
tickets, we boarded an eco friendly bus and
travelled 20 minutes to get to the lake. It is very
serene and well preserved. There is also a
monastery near by to visit.
It was quite windy during our visit so I highly
recommend a jacket and ear warmers. We were
there in early October.

Stunning Glacier in Tibet
On our drive through Tibet we stopped to see Karola Glacier. This glacier has a peak elevation of 5560 meters and had so much snow in early October. It is located in Shigatse in the Tibet Autonomous Region and is located close to Mount Naiqing Kangsang, which is one of the four tallest mountains in Tibet.
We passed here after spending our morning viewing the stunning Yamdrok Lake and then continued on our way towards the highlight of our trip…Everest Base Camp!

Potala Palace a must seen in China
Getting There - For non Chinese you must get a travel permit to get there. Train scenery is BEAUTIFUL
Attractions - Potala Palace is the most famous one in Lhasa but there are many other temples and places to see.
Hotels - there is not a big range of hotels, but you can easily find one. Usually your travel agency will take care of that.

The finale of my Tibet trip during the new year holiday in the year 2022 was with visits to Rabse Nunnery in Gyantse, Karola Glacier, and beautiful Yumdroke Lake.
