Wonderful New Year Dinner at Family Restaurant

New year’s dinner with friends was an adventurous experience. We chose indoor barbecue at Meokbang BBQ n KIDZONE, a Korean restaurant in Kwun Tong. It’s the best family restaurant with a kid zone in town. The kids were so excited playing in the kid zone after having their meals, especially using their coins to get gifts. We ordered fresh beef, seafood, and pork for barbecue. All are fresh. The meat was tender and super yummy. Highly recommend that families with kids eat here. For starters, we tried their decker nachos and fries. Lots of meat in the decker nachos! This is great by itself and a few beers if you don’t want to have dinner and just want to hang-out with friends over a few drinks. Since we were having dinner, we ordered their Decker Feast. We got to choose from their selection of meats and sides. We tried their cornbread, brisket dirty rice, wagyu brisket, pork spare ribs, wagyu burnt ends and pork belly burnt ends. All are good but the wagyu brisket and burnt ends are, for us, the best!!! For dessert, we recommend their banana pudding - very simple-looking but very delicious! I’ve been to a number of southern style bbq restaurants in the city but not outdoors. We were recommended by a friend to Evergreen City Farm in Minhang, just a bit more west from the Hongqiao Airport. And surprise surprise, ribs, brisket, you name it, they had it. Proper smoker and all. In the scorching heat we enjoyed some bbq, cool beer, and strolled around the farm. The farm is really well kept, even had english/chinese signs everywhere introducing features and what they offer. Pigs, goats and peacock were thrown peaches from farmers. There is a big play area for kids (jungle gym, trampoline, etc) Overall, very nice family friendly farm with the Texas BBQ which is a cherry on the top. If you want to spend time in nature 🌲and be isolated from the hustle and bustle of the city, a weekend trip (or longer:) to Fais Un Voeu is highly recommended. Located in Hangzhou valley (4hrs from Shanghai), Fais Un Voeu offers renovated old cottages and wooden houses for accommodation. Lea and Louis, the owners of FUV will excite you with activities on site (bonfire, fishing, loads of kids activities, 🍗, and so much more..) One of the highlights during our stay was a hike up to the mountains with the other guests. Food is awesome, cooked with local seasonal ingredients. Freshly baked croissants were a delight 🥐 The evening was so much with wine and barbecue and a sudden singing competition amongst the kids! Taking up the first level of one of the shophouses, it has a very festive vibe, very much like those in the night markets in Thailand itself. Ok, here’s the deal - @wagyuyakinikuichiro is SO worth the hype and calories 🤩 For those of you who haven’t seen it all over your IG feed (yet), this novel Japanese grill place offers all-you-can-eat premium beef and a wide variety of other food options served on a contactless bullet train delivery system 🚄 We visited the Po Lam branch for a weekday dinner so there weren't crazy many people. As we wanted to try the beef but didn’t want to splurge on wagyu yet, we opted for Course B. (🤓Note: There’s a promotion going on now where you can get a free beef special if you reserve a table in advance and follow them on social media) A nicely presented meat platter was served almost immediately after we notified the waiter our course of choice, so that we didn’t waste any of our precious 90 minutes ⏰ The platter consisted of two types of beef, pork, chicken, pumpkin slices and a mushroom. Compared to the marinated beef with house miso, we found that the unseasoned meat was easier to grill to perfection. We could also taste just how fresh and luscious each piece was before adding soy sauce, sea salt or pepper for more flavor 😋 Everything else was ordered via a customized QR code that showed all the 51 items included in our course. There was a surprising amount of Korean 🇰🇷 food, such as kimchi and fried chicken. We recommend trying the shrimp tempura sushi roll, nourishing soups and foil grilled mushrooms with butter 🧈 We were quite impressed by the free flow salad, dessert and drink bar, especially the various types of housemade healthy drinks and Japanese ice creams. A Charcoal is a gorgeous (and expensive) Japanese restaurant located in Shanghai Centre. This restaurant has a simple but elegant ambience, perfect for a romantic date or a meeting that requires privacy. Menus are in English, Japanese and Chinese. So many seafood 🦞 and meat 🥩 options to chose is hard to decide. Also, you will spend minimum 350 RMB in a dinner, of two dishes and no drinks. Drinks are mostly sold in bottle, so add a couple more hundreds. Presentation of the dishes is gorgeous, mostly focused on wangyu barbecue. Although everything looked delicious, I went for a simple beer and a daifuku (also called daifukumochi, popular Japanese cakes made from a chewy glutinous rice). Very simple but also very good. As you know, I’m a big fan of bbq restaurants. Chuxiaoge in Fuxing Plaza (Soho) in Xintiandi is a nice finding. Relatively cheap, tasty and open. Something funny about Shanghai is the difficulty to find restaurants open at night, despite the fact this city never sleeps. There are not many restaurants open after 9pm, specially on a rainy weekend. Therefore, if you are in the area you shoul definitely grab a bite here! Staff are quite nice, ambience is inviting. Not sure how crowded will be during the day. Beer drinks are good, specially with bbq. Meat and seafood 🦞 sticks are very tasty. Chuxiaoge additionally have rice 🍚 and noodles 🍜 options, if you feel bbq sticks are not enough. They have a pear soup 🥣 that may not look so good, but it’s very recommended. Car shops hall in Aegean

In the first floor of Aegean shopping mall there is a cute hall where you find several bus/car shops in a roll that are selling fast food and ice cream. Here you can find chicken sticks, octopus balls (takoyaki), sausages, BBQ sticks, noodles, seafood, bubble teas and else! This hall smells way better than the restaurants around, because their kitchen is open to give a taste to pedestrians about what they are missing. Feels like walking around an indoor festival. This food is classical food you can find anywhere in China, but presentation makes you curious to see what they offer in each car. As for me, takoyaki 🐙 is always tempting, and very hard to find outside a Japanese restaurant. Are u a fan of Korean doramas, pop music or may be culture in general? Every time in doramas people geather together in the BBQ restaurants eating delicious meat and tokpokki with kimcho soup and things,I feel like "I need it NOW" Good news everyone! You can get that easily in K-Town of Shanghai at a very decent price at Yuanjia restaurant (缘家) 🤩 The only trick here is that the restaurant is so popular, that you have to line up. 👁️‍🗨️ There are 2 ways to do it: online and offline. If you want to line online, you need to do it at least 1 hour in advance. Offline you will have to wait forever... But it is worth it! 🍖 The BBQ is amazing and not expensive at all. Kimchi soup is same as in Korea. And they also have pig scin, which is a great selling point for me, as it is served in very few places in Shanghai. The place is quite crowded all the time and of course noice. This Barbecue place is located at Tai Mei Tuk, Master Mak Barbecue. My friends invited me to join them for barbecue, and it's awesome! It's a buffet style barbecue, pay for the entrance fee at the and you can eat all you like! Apart from barbecue, there are different stores with mini games that you can play, I am too concentrated on barbecuing and didn't play the games, but they seem fun too. There are varieties of food to collect, all kinds of meat, sausages, vegetables, bread etc. The place allowed bringing food from outside, so my friends bought some seafood too. Each person can choose two kinds of drinks, you can buy extra if you need to. Overall it's a great experience. The staff is very friendly and are able to communicate well in English👍. They have beef brisket, pork ribs and beef short rib!!!😱 We saw a post about it online and it did not disappoint!🙌 A set meal for single person is 128 RMB you get three tender smoked meats with two sides which I think is good value for money. We would recommend the kale and mango salad, cheese stuffed mushrooms and the coleslaw. The restaurant looks cool with lots of comfy seats. They open at 11:30 am on weekdays and 11:00 am on weekends! You need to get here early as they are quite popular. 😂 The closest metro station is Madang Road and the Didi address in English is "Garlic Barbecue 18 Xiao..."
