A palace fit for a King
Lying just outside Paris, is one of France’s most iconic and historical sites: The palace of Versailles.
The home of the nations most famous monarchs all the way up to Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, the sheer opulence on display here is a site to behold. Walking around rooms such as the hall of mirrors and the King’s chamber in addition to the expansive gardens it’s not hard to see why there was a detachment between the people and the monarch which eventually led to the French Revolution.

🇵🇹 Pena Palace
Pena Palace (Palácio da Pena) is a breathtaking Romanticist palace located in Sintra, Portugal. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Portugal's Seven Wonders, it sits atop Serra de Sintra, on the grounds of a former 16th-century monastery. In 1838, King Fernando II acquired the site and played a key role in transforming the old monastery, adding a new wing to create the magnificent palace, which later became a summer residence for the royal family.
Plan to spend at least two hours exploring the palace due to its vast size, and if you have extra time, take a stroll through the beautiful surrounding park. To save time and 5% on tickets, it’s recommended to buy them online before your visit.

An Ancient rich 🇰🇷 history in Gyeongbokgung Palace
#ancienttown #korea #palace #100waysoftravel
My visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace was a captivating journey into Korea’s rich history. The grandeur of the palace grounds is striking, with beautifully preserved architecture that showcases traditional Joseon Dynasty design. As I wandered through the impressive gates and courtyards, I could feel the weight of history surrounding me.
The Changing of the Guard ceremony was a highlight, with colorful uniforms and precise movements that added to the vibrant atmosphere. The gardens, particularly in the autumn, were a delight, filled with blooming flowers and serene ponds that provided a perfect backdrop for photos.
Inside the National Palace Museum, I learned about Korea's royal heritage and artifacts, which deepened my appreciation for the culture.
Overall, Gyeongbokgung Palace is a must-visit for anyone in Seoul. It’s a perfect blend of history, beauty, and cultural significance, making it an unforgettable experience.

A must visit in Seoul!
If you enjoy cultural and historical experiences, this will be your top stop in Seoul. What a contrast to this modern city. This traditional architecture and people coming dressed in hanbok's. Which reminds me, yes one can rent those traditional dresses. Infact it is promoted. Should you be dressed in a hambok, your entrance would be free. (just for information it is otherwise 3000 Korean won which isn't much)
The palace is a splendid experience. It is steeped in history and traditions. It is a massive complex and there is a lot of walking to be done. Even from the nearest metro station I remember it being a bit of walk. The palace complex is filled with spots for pictures and the palace itself is very beautiful. There is lavish decorations, chandeliers and ornate furniture all around. The garden too is equally impressive. Absolutely worthy of a visit!

A wonderful palace
#myhiddengems
This turned out to be surprisingly a nicer experience compared to some very famous spots on my itinerary. I mean the general experience of being at places and the convenience counts too. This was not too crowded and especially becomes even quieter towards the evening. It can feel pricey but the palace is wonderful and worth it.
Your tickets include the main building, the clock museum, the art museum, harem and everything else. My personal favourite was the art museum, some outstanding works of painters worldwide.
They have security guards all around and a policy of not pictures inside. Kind of makes you want to sneak in one or two. The guards don't necessarily look friendly but not a problem. Certain things could have been better, as many rooms are also not really open to visitors in a sense that one cannot take a stroll around them. Yet, plenty to see and keep you interested for 2-3 hours. I think I spent close to 4!

Best Musuem & Gallery in Istanbul
#museums
This was by far the best activity in Istanbul. After a somewhat underwhelming experience with Hagia Sophia, the topkapi palace next door served as the best experience in Istanbul. Its location is gorgeous facing the Bosphorus. Before I get into sharing my personal experience. Here's what i think will exceptionally elevate your experience. That is having a guide.
This palace museum has served an important part of the Ottoman history and continues to be of relevance with half the palace containing rooms for the royal family. The relics on display are some significant ones with history associated with them. Do know that it gets quite crowded as and when cruises arrive, tourist come in hoards. So if you get inside during an hour free from the cruise crowd. The que is likely to move faster.
The museum requires your time and attention. It's better if you don't club it with 10 other things. I guess hagia sophia should be enough since in the same vicinity. The treasury hall with its collection of pieces, relics and even dresses was very impressive. Some management could help since it did get noisy and crowded. Also, carry something to drink. The only small cafe available on the site is out to suck your wallet dry. And it is nothing to brag about. All in all this museum gallery should be in the top of your list in Istanbul.

House goals! The stunning grand palace, Bangkok 🇹🇭
If you’re visiting Bangkok this is a must visit, the Grand Palace. I booked my tickets online in advance, use the palace website and they will send you a QR code to collect tickets when you arrive.
The palace itself is various temples, buildings and statues in a large compound. It can be very busy so try and go very early to beat the crowds.
I was blown away by the detailing and intricate designs of every building and the scale of it was almost overwhelming.
It can get very hot but there is lots of shade, so take breaks when you need too!
There are audio tours or guided tours available but I opted for walking around and taking everything in myself.
You can get there by bus, taxi, tuk tuk or the metro. I got the metro to Sanaa Chai then it’s a ten minute walk

GRAND PALACE IN MALAYSIA.
Kuala Lumpur isn't all towering skyscrapers and neon lights. Tucked away in a serene corner lies Istana Negara, the official residence of Malaysia's king. While you can't exactly waltz through the palace itself (security's pretty tight!), it's still an impressive sight to behold.
The first thing that grabbed my attention was the sheer scale of the place. The neo-Malay architecture boasts sprawling manicured lawns, golden domes, and intricately designed facades. It felt like stepping into a fairytale, minus the fire-breathing dragons (though the security guards might look a bit intimidating from afar!).
While peeking into the palace itself is off-limits, the surrounding gates are a photographer's dream. The intricately designed ironwork and the royal insignia – a yellow tiger holding a spear – make for some seriously regal backdrops for your Instagram snaps.
Sure, Istana Negara might not be an interactive experience, but it's a unique way to get a glimpse into the heart of Malaysian royalty. For history buffs and architecture enthusiasts, it's a definite must-see. Just remember, keep your distance and admire the grandeur from afar!

🇰🇷 Wearing Hanbok in Korea
Hanbok is the traditional Korean clothing worn by people in Korea. It is characterized by vibrant colors and simple lines without pockets. Hanbok consists of a jeogori (jacket) and baji (pants) or chima (skirt) for women, or baji for men. The ensemble is often accompanied by a jeonbok (vest) and a hair accessory called a norigae. While it is commonly worn on special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, and celebrations, you can also find people wearing hanbok at cultural events, historical sites, and during traditional holidays in South Korea.
There are many hanbok rental shops in Seoul such as Insadong, Bukchon Hanok Village and Gyeongbokgung Palace. These shops often provide a variety of styles and sizes for both men and women. Some major palaces and cultural heritage sites in Seoul, such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, and Deoksugung Palace, also offer hanbok rental services on-site. Visitors can rent hanboks and explore the grounds while dressed in traditional attire. Most of the time entry to the palaces is free for those who are dressed in hanbok. You should definitely experience wearing a hanbok when you are in South Korea!

🇵🇹 Quinta da Regaleira, the most Beautiful Mansion in Sintra
A visit to Sintra is not complete without visiting Quinta da Regaleira, one of the most beautiful estates classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO within the "Cultural Landscape of Sintra". Quinta da Regaleira is a neo-gothic mansion designed and built in the late 1800s. The major attractions of the mansion are its picturesque gardens and the iconic initiation well. The initiation well is not a real well as a source of water. It is an underground tower in the Quinta da Regaleira built for ceremonial purposes. It consists of a 27-metre spiral staircase about 6 storeys high. At the bottom of the well are two main tunnels, one of which leads to the outdoor garden. It was truly a surreal and magical experience walking down the well and through the tunnels!

🇵🇹 Day trip to Sintra and Cabo da Roca
Sintra is a UNESCO world heritage site in Portugal famed for its historic palaces and castles. It is about 50 minutes from Lisbon by train so you can easily make a day trip to Sintra while you're in Lisbon.
We visited Pena Palace, a fairytale palace built in 19th century, and Quinta da Regaleira, a neo-gothic mansion with the iconic initiation well. We had lunch in Sintra town centre and thereafter travelled to Cabo da Roca - the westernmost point of mainland Europe.
It may be cheaper to go from one location to another by Uber or other ride hiring platforms instead of hiring tour guides touting outside Sintra train station. The tour guide we hired charged us 35 euros per pax by fetching us from point A to point B.

🇰🇷 Hanbok experience in Gyeongbokgung Palace
Gyeongbokgung Palace (景福宫) is the largest palace out of the five palaces in Seoul. It was constructed at the end of 14th century during the Joseon period. Over the next few hundreds years, the palace was destroyed, abandoned and reconstructed before being torn down during the Japanese occupation. Since 1990, an effort to restore the palace to its former glory has been ongoing.
The palace is a short walk away from Gyeongbokgung subway station Exit 5. We rented Hanbok (Korean traditional costume) at one of the many rental shops nearby before we entered the palace. The rental included basic hairstyling and additional accessories were available at extra cost. The admission to the palace is 3000 won but we got free admission since we were dressed in Hanbok. Therefore it is not surprising to see many visitors walking around the palace dressed in Hanbok. It was a fun and memorable experience for us taking pictures at different parts of the palace.
The palace is closed on Tuesdays. There are a few free guided tours in foreign languages available on certain days of the week.

The love story behind the Taj Mahal.
Standing before the Taj Mahal, I was enveloped in a sense of awe and reverence. The ethereal beauty of its white marble facade gleamed under the golden rays of the sun, casting a spellbinding aura. As I stepped through the grand entrance, intricate details adorned every inch, telling the story of undying love and exquisite craftsmanship.
Walking along the manicured gardens, I marveled at the symmetrical perfection that surrounded me, each element meticulously designed to create harmony and balance. Inside the mausoleum, the air was thick with solemnity, yet infused with a lingering sense of love that transcended time.
Gazing upon the tombs of Shah Jahan and his beloved Mumtaz Mahal, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of reverence for their enduring love immortalized in stone. Truly, the Taj Mahal is a testament to the power of love and the pinnacle of architectural brilliance.
