Fukuoka Hakozaki Shrine - Hidden Beauty, Autumn Leaves Like a Painting.
During the autumn foliage season, I had the privilege of visiting Hakozaki Shrine in Fukuoka, a hidden gem not widely known to the public. As I stepped onto this sacred land, the breathtaking scenery left me in awe, especially the garden's autumn leaves, which resembled a magnificent painting, compelling me to stop and savor the moment.
The colors of the autumn leaves were truly stunning, with vibrant reds, oranges, and golds interwoven to create a dreamlike world. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, adding a layer of hazy light and shadow to the garden, as if I were in an autumn fairy tale. Walking under the trees, stepping on the soft fallen leaves, I couldn't help but feel a sense of tranquility and joy.
The serene atmosphere here felt incredibly precious. Compared to the bustling city, Hakozaki Shrine was like a paradise, allowing one to forget the worries of the world. Every corner held new surprises, whether it was the ancient shrine buildings or the hidden paths in the woods, making me feel the weight of history and the harmony of nature.
This journey made me deeply appreciate the meaning of a worthwhile trip. Besides admiring the beauty of the autumn leaves, there was also the feeling of being one with nature. Hakozaki Shrine is not just a tourist spot but a sanctuary for the soul. I hope more people will discover this hidden beauty in the future and experience the spiritual cleansing brought by the autumn leaves.

Tanzan Shrine in Nara is a scenic spot where the entire mountain is colored with vibrant autumn leaves in autumn.
The vibrant red and yellow scenery that spreads around the temple grounds and surrounding area, centered around the 13-story pagoda, is as beautiful as a painting.
The autumn leaves lit up by the morning and evening light are particularly mystical and captivating.
The scenery woven by the historic buildings and autumn leaves is a special place filled with the charm of autumn in Japan.

Gokokuji Temple 護国寺
Located near Gokokuji Station, the temple is very accessible.
The scenery changes with the seasons, and in mid-December, visitors can enjoy wonderful foliage watching. It is a very enjoyable temple to stroll around.🍂🍁
There are many other places to see on the temple grounds. First, at the entrance to the temple grounds is the Niomon Gate, which can be called the face of Gokokuji. Passing through the gate and up the stairs to the main hall, you will see the Great Buddha on your right!
In front of the main hall is the Kannon-do (main hall), which still retains its majestic appearance.

The building called 'Gachirin-in,' located halfway up the stairs from the Niomon Gate, has been turned into a cafe.
We took a break here during our visit.
It was a beautiful spot with a view of the mountains and the temple grounds adorned with red and yellow maple leaves.
While enjoying the beautiful scenery, we had a seasonal oden. It came with 'Kobo tea and persimmon leaf sushi (mackerel and salmon),' allowing us to savor Nara's specialties, which was very satisfying.

Autumn in Shirakawa-go
Visiting Shirakawa-go is all about enjoying the autumn foliage, but it seems we arrived a bit late. Many trees were already bare, but it didn't stop us from slowly appreciating this beautiful place. Since we aren't great walkers, we opted to take their bus up to the observation deck, which costs 200 yen per person. The observation deck is a must-visit spot where you can admire the entire view of Shirakawa-go. It's truly stunning. There's a lovely coffee shop in Shirakawa-go, but unfortunately, it was closed that day. We missed it again, but maybe it just wasn't meant to be this time. We spent a few hours there, slowly walking and enjoying the scenery. If you ask me whether it's worth visiting, I would say: 'Absolutely worth it!'

[Shiga Prefecture] Shiga's famous spot of upside-down autumn leaves! Former Chikurin-in Temple
When it comes to upside-down autumn leaves in western Japan, Ruriko-in Temple in Rakuhoku, Kyoto comes to mind.
A place with beauty comparable to that of Ruriko-in Temple is Motosatobo Kyu-Chikurin-in Temple in Shiga Prefecture,
just 5km east of Ruriko-in Temple.
*Although it is only 5km away in a straight line from Ruriko-in Temple, it takes about an hour by car to get there because you have to go around Mt. Hiei.
Ruriko-in Temple is always extremely crowded, and the admission fee for advance online reservations is 2,000 yen,
but this temple is still a little-known spot, as it is relatively empty and the admission fee is only 330 yen! There is also a free parking lot with space for 20 cars.
Motosatobo is a residence for monks from Mt. Hiei when they went into seclusion, and is furnished with a teahouse and gazebo.
Each of the two-story teahouses has a small lacquered table, and you can enjoy the upside-down autumn leaves as shown in the first and second pictures.
Red Japanese umbrellas are also set up in the garden, creating a tasteful landscape.
The fourth picture is difficult to see due to the backlight, but it is a spot where you can enjoy the scenery with Mt. Hachioji, which is said to be the most beautiful garden of the former Chikurin-in.
When we visited in mid-November, the leaves were still about 70-80% autumn, but it was quite beautiful and many groups were visiting.
The best time to see them is around November 20th every year.
The moss garden is also wonderful and worth a visit.

Kyoto Autumn Leaves: Relaxing Autumn Foliage Viewing in Kyoto! Heian Shrine Garden.
Absolutely Beautiful! From Heian Shrine Garden
The peak autumn foliage season has arrived!
Kyoto's tourist season is always crowded.

Heian Shrine Garden is divided into four sections surrounding the sacred area, with a total area of about 30,000 square meters!
It is designated as a national scenic spot as a representative garden of the Meiji era. While the weeping cherry blossoms in spring are famous, the autumn foliage season is also spectacular.
The seasonal scenery is exceptionally charming.
Be sure to stop by during your autumn foliage viewing trip in Kyoto.

[Kanagawa Prefecture] A Japanese garden built by the great modern businessman, Sankei Hara!
Sankeien Garden is Yokohama's best Japanese garden.
Modern businessman Hara Sankei used his own money to create this vast garden, which is the size of four Tokyo Domes.
Hara Sankei was a businessman, tea master, man of letters, and arts expert, and he was also a patron of young artists and a collector of antiques.
He was unable to bear the sight of old buildings falling into disrepair around the country, so he collected them and moved them to Sankeien Garden.
He designed the garden design himself, taking advantage of the natural topography of the area, and created a garden unique to Sankei.
In spring, Sankeien Garden is known as a famous spot for cherry blossoms, lotus flowers in summer, and autumn leaves in autumn.
The "autumn leaves illumination" held for a limited time is also wonderful.
The symbol of Sankeien Garden, the "three-story pagoda" towering over the large pond, the "Choushukaku" which is only open to the public during the autumn leaves season, the former Tenzui-ji Temple Kotobuki Pagoda surrounded by a carpet of ginkgo trees and associated with Hideyoshi, the "Rinshunkaku" which was a villa built by the Kishu Tokugawa family, and the imposing "Gomon" at the entrance to the inner garden.
Even though it is located in fashionable Yokohama, I enjoyed a stroll through the charming gardens reminiscent of the ancient capital of Kamakura.

[Gunma Prefecture] Daredevils' Mt. Tanigawa! Take the ropeway for an easy walk through the autumn leaves
Mt. Tanigawa is located on the border between Minakami Town, Tone District, Gunma Prefecture and Yuzawa Town, Minamiuonuma District, Niigata Prefecture (Joetsu border).
The summit is divided into two peaks, "Toma no Mimi" at 1,963 m above sea level and "Oki no Mimi" at 1,977 m above sea level, forming a twin peak.
Mt. Tanigawa is one of the most famous peaks in the Kanto region, and has been selected as one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan and the new 100 most famous mountains in Japan.
It is very convenient to be able to climb all the way to Tenjindaira Station in one go by the Mt. Tanigawa Ropeway.
The rocky areas of Mt. Tanigawa, such as Ichinokurazawa, are highly regarded for their steepness, and are counted as one of the three major rocky areas in Japan along with Mt. Tsurugi and Mt. Hotaka.
It is also known as a mecca for rock climbing.
The number of deaths on Mt. Tanigawa is so high that it has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, and it is also known as the "Devil's Mountain" and the "Mountain of Death."

[Oita Prefecture] The most beautiful autumn foliage in the Kuju Mountains! Mt. Ofuna
The Kuju Mountains lie in Oita Prefecture.
Near the summit of Mt. Taisen (1,786m above sea level), the third highest mountain in the mountain range, lies a small crater lake called Oike.
The autumn leaves around Oike are the most beautiful in the Kuju Mountains, and it is very popular!
Many people of all ages and genders flock to the area in October during the autumn foliage season.
It is 12km one way from the trailhead, so it takes at least 8 hours to make a day trip, starting before dawn.
There is a campsite and a mountain lodge (with hot spring) at the halfway point, so many climbers come for a two-day, one-night trip.
When I visited, there was rain, thick fog, and wind from the morning, so I couldn't see the beautiful reflection of Oike, but it was still breathtakingly beautiful!
The rain-soaked maples turned a deep red, and we enjoyed a beautiful autumn foliage climb.
Photo on Oct 24, 2022
This is called 'Oike' volcanic small lake of Mt. Taisenzan on the peak, which belongs to the larger volcanic Kuju massif in the center of the Japanese island Kyushu. This mountain is said to be the most gorgeous fall foliage of the mountains in Kuju massif!! The weather on the mountain is variable, and it had been getting deep foggy and raining after leaving the peak of Taisenzan. Anyway, it's truly worth climbing to Mt. Taisenzan in fall as well as early summer!

[Tochigi Prefecture] A spectacular carpet of autumn leaves and an active volcano! Chausu-dake in Nasu
Chausu-dake (officially a part of the Nasu-dake mountain range, 1,915m above sea level, an active volcano) lies in Nasu-machi, Tochigi Prefecture.
It is known as one of the best mountains in Japan for climbing to see autumn leaves,
and the surrounding area of Ubagadaira is as stunningly beautiful as Mount Kurikoma in Miyagi!
At the most popular photo spot, "Hyotan Pond," there was a long line to take pictures of the autumn leaves and reflections...I waited about 20 minutes
Furthermore, the parking lot at Toge no Chaya, which is convenient for mountain climbing, was full at 5:50 a.m.
If you want to be sure to park in this parking lot during the autumn foliage season, you have to arrive by 1 a.m.
If the parking lot at Toge no Chaya is full, there is a free parking lot 2 km down, but there are also few parking lots there, so if it is full, you will have to go further down...Anyway, it is a battle for it during the season
Chausu-dake is actually quite easy to access the summit because of the Nasu-dake Ropeway
However, personally, I recommend climbing as there are many spectacular views that can only be seen by those who climb it
Photo on Oct 15 2022
Mt. Chausu-dake peak of Mt. Nasu-dake at a height of 1,915m is located in Nasu town, Tochigi pref, the Kanto region of Japan and known as one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. It's an active volcano and one of the must-see mountains of the fall foliage in Japan. It's possible to go up and down the mountain on the same day. Otherwise it's very easy to get to the peak by the ropeway if you don't have time or are short on physical strength. Anyway it's super amazing!

[Ehime Prefecture] The highest sacred mountain in western Japan! A thrilling, exciting and breathtaking autumn foliage climb on Mt. Ishizuchi
Mt. Ishizuchi straddles Saijo City and Kumakogen Town in Ehime Prefecture.
Its main peak, Mt. Tengu, is the highest peak in Western Japan and is one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan.
Mt. Ishizuchi is also known as the spot where the earliest autumn leaves change color in Shikoku.
Mt. Ishizuchi is a sacred mountain where mountain priests once came to train.
Therefore, the mountain trail has four nearly vertical chain sections with a total length of about 240m,
and the highest peak, Mt. Tengu, is a sheer cliff with almost no chain sections at all!!
It was the most thrilling mountain climbing experience I've ever had!
*Please note that there are detours around the chain sections, so don't worry. Also, the vast majority of people don't climb Mt. Tengu.
The observation deck is at the summit of Mt. Misen, which is opposite Mt. Tengu,
but when we arrived, it was covered in thick fog, and we waited for over 40 minutes in the freezing cold until the fog cleared...
When the fog cleared, cheers rang out from all around!
While having lunch on the rocks at the summit of Mt. Tengu,
we looked down and saw the rare Brocken phenomenon, where a rainbow ring appears around your shadow!
It was a fall foliage climbing experience that gave me a thrill and excitement like never before. Photo on Oct 11 2022 Mt. Ishizuchi-san is a 1,982m high (6,503 ft) mountain on the border of Saijō city and Kumakōgen-cho town in Ehime prefecture, Japan. This mountain is one of the Japan 100 best mountains and the highest one in Western Japan and the Shikoku region, and the fall foliage is the earliest to come to the Shikoku. Mt. Ishizuchi has been worshiped as the spiritual and important object for Shugendo like a mixture of Shintoism and Buddhism. There are 4 heavy iron chains leading up to the summit on the almost sudden vertical drop( at the same time ready for the detour like a step). Mt. Tengu-dake, which is the highest peak of Ishizuchi mountains, is too dangerous to climb up to the peak without chains as well as ropes. It's so thrilling and exciting trekking Anyway!

The reflection of the valley scenery and the shadows of people are so beautiful. 💕💕💕 It was quite crowded that day, and everyone was posing in various ways. ▶️The expression changes with the seasons, and in spring and summer, the green leaves are strong and lively. In autumn, the red and orange leaves are beautiful, and in winter, it becomes a world like a sumi-e painting. #0 yen travel November

The entire forest is colored orange, the same color as the fallen leaves at your feet, making it a spectacular view.
It's beautiful no matter where you look😍😍😍
It was a storm of emotions.

Stroll along the forest path of towering cedar trees: Sendai’s famous Zuihoden temple
#forest #100 ways to travel
Sendai's famous place #Zuihoden has a #cedar path with towering ancient trees. A whole cedar forest towers into the sky. Walking on the stone steps to absorb the natural phytoncides is also a comfortable enjoyment!
The towering cedar trees on the left and right sides of Sugi-Sandou Road are said to be 380 years old. They are very remote. In addition to the cedar forest, there are also cedars and red leaves. The sun shines through the gaps in the cedar forest, making it warm and comfortable!
The stone steps also have a lot of history. It is said that the number of stone steps represents the height of the Sendai Domain's stone steps, a total of 620,000 stones. No wonder Zuihoden has a condescending feeling.
Zuihoden Hall is nestled between mountains and forests. You can take a stroll along the stone steps of the cedar forest and pass by the Nirvana Gate, Zuihoden Hall, Hanging Soul Monument, Shanyi Hall, Ganxian Hall, Miaoyunkai Temple, and Anazou Inari Shrine. You can spend an hour walking around and bathing in the forest.
