Topkapi Palace: the Ottoman Sultan's grand residence 🇹🇷
#traveldiaries
Set on top of the most visible hill of Istanbul, Topkapi Palace, is the symbol of the city. This lavish palace was the royal residence of the Ottoman empire for almost 400 years. Here, you can peek into the imperial life of the sultans as you wander through the grand courtyards, pavilions and ceremonial rooms that display an impressive collection of artefacts and treasures.
It was built in 1461 by Mehmet the Conqueror and remained both the symbolic and political home of the Ottoman Empire until Sultan Abdülmecid I moved the imperial retinue to Dolmabahçe Palace in 1853. During the four centuries in between, it hosted 22 different Sultans and their families.
It was converted into a museum after the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the creation of the Turkish Republic in 1924 and is a must-see for any tourist visiting Istanbul. It is made up of four different courtyards and various exhibitions such as the treasury, weapons, watch collection, kaftans, portraits, and sacred relics of prophets.

Pamukkale: Soaking in Nature’s Beauty Amidst Shallow Hot Springs
#hotsprings #100waysoftravel #turkey #turkiye #pamukkale
We visited Pamukkale in June, eager to experience its famous hot springs and natural terraces. The mineral-rich waters, which flow down the white travertine formations, were beautiful, creating a unique landscape. However, we were a bit disappointed by the shallow water levels in the hot spring pools, making it less relaxing than expected. The area was also quite crowded, which took away from the serene atmosphere we had hoped for. Despite this, Pamukkale offered stunning views, especially of the shimmering terraces against the blue sky, making the visit worthwhile for the incredible scenery alone.

Istanbul's Stunning Cityscape from Galata Tower
#cityscape #100waysoftravel #turkiye #turkey #istanbul #galatatower
One of the best ways to experience the breathtaking cityscape of Istanbul is from the top of the iconic Galata Tower. Standing tall in the Beyoğlu district, this medieval stone structure offers a panoramic view of the city's rich blend of history and modernity. From the tower's viewing platform, you can see the shimmering Bosphorus, the Golden Horn, and the sprawling skyline dotted with domes and minarets. However, be prepared for long queues—waiting almost two hours to take the lift is common, especially during peak times. Despite the wait, the stunning view from the top makes it all worthwhile, offering a perfect snapshot of Istanbul’s vibrant and timeless beauty.

Exploring the Colorful Charm of Balat, Istanbul
#solotravel #100waysoftravel #turkey #balat #turkiye
Balat, Istanbul is a quirky and colorful area that’s an absolute must-visit for solo travelers. The streets are lined with vibrant cafes, charming bakeries, and uniquely decorated residential buildings, making every corner a photo-worthy spot. I loved strolling around, admiring the beautifully adorned cafes and bakeries, and soaking in the lively atmosphere. The locals were incredibly helpful, even offering to take photos and videos for me. I wandered into a random cafe for gelato and a cold drink, enjoying a sweet afternoon while leisurely reading one of the novels they provided for free. It was the perfect solo adventure!
Get to know Ankara
If you are for the first time in Ankara, I can suggest you to start your tour from the old city centre. There you will see the traditional architecture and some of the most emblematic places as the clock tower, the covered fountain and the small shops with crafts and cafeterias. Than you can't miss the big mosque, the fortress, the attraction park called Genclik (means Youth) and of course the Anıtkabir museum dedicated to Ataturk, the father of the modern Turkish Republic.

Exploring the Timeless Majesty of Hagia Sophia: A Journey Through Byzantine Splendor
#europeanarchitecture #100waysoftravel #byzantine #hagia_sophia #turkey #turkiye #istanbul #magic_istanbul #turkeytrip #architecture
Visiting Hagia Sophia was an awe-inspiring experience, as I marveled at its magnificent blend of European Byzantine architecture.
Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by the vast dome, seemingly floating above the enormous central space, an architectural marvel of its time.
The intricate mosaics, some dating back to the 6th century, showcased the exquisite artistry of the Byzantine period, with their rich gold backgrounds and religious iconography.
Massive columns and arches, adorned with elaborate detailing, reflected the merging of both Roman and Christian influences. Originally built as a cathedral by Emperor Justinian, Hagia Sophia has witnessed a remarkable transformation through history, serving as a mosque and now a museum. Its grandeur, both in scale and design, is a testament to the ingenuity and splendor of Byzantine architecture.
Being there, I could feel the deep layers of history etched into every stone and mosaic, making it one of the most memorable architectural wonders I’ve ever explored.
📌📌Arrive Early to avoid long lines and fully enjoy the peaceful atmosphere before the crowds arrive.
💃Dress Modestly, as Hagia Sophia is now a mosque again, and respectful attire is required.
‼️Don’t Miss the Mosaics on the upper gallery, as they are some of the finest examples of Byzantine art.
🕰️Take Time to Admire the Dome, a true architectural wonder of the ancient world.
🙏Check Prayer Times, as the site closes to visitors during Islamic prayer sessions.
Where Asia meets Europe
We had a 4 nights stopover in Istanbul on our way to North America and it was an amazing experience. We stayed in a hotel in old city next to sea side. We walked around the cobalt stone streets, tasted the Türkiye’s cuisine, visited the famous mosque, took a cruise around Bosphorus and travel between Asian and European parts of Istanbul.

#myhiddengems
This is a castle atop a hill that does require climbing a considerable amount of steps. Uchisar the town is not as populated with tourist attractions as goreme. So the castle is amongst the activities around. I thought it was interesting and in continuity with the landscape and cave theme of the region. There were mixed responses even from the friends I went with. I feel while it makes for a nice activity and you get to be on the top, so the view improves. However, the 250 Tl entrance (almost 8 euros) may be what causes people to expect more. But hey this is to do with heritage and history. It cannot be manipulated. So, if you don't wish to pay. Skip this one, plenty of cave related and similar things to do around. I didn't mind it at all. Saved me a work out and I take my time with places.

An Imperial Park That's Centuries Old
The first urban park established in Istanbul was Gulhane Park.
The park, which now has 500 hundreds-year-old oak and walnut trees, was once the Topkapi Palace's exterior gardens while the Ottoman Empire was in power.
Gülhane Park, located beside Istanbul's Topkapi Palace, is a lush green area in the heart of the city.
This historic park, once the royal garden of the Ottoman Empire, is now a public park that offers tranquility and natural beauty.
Its well-maintained pathways, surrounded by a variety of trees and flowers, offer a peaceful escape.
Its scenic views of the Bosphorus and historical monuments, like the Goths' Column, add to its charm.
Gülhane Park is perfect for leisurely strolls, family picnics, and experiencing Istanbul's natural beauty amidst its urban hustle.
Admission is free, and strolling this park allows you to also reach popular sites like Topkapi Palace and other museums within an easy (but hilly) walk.
Wheelchair accessibility is evident, although the cobblestone paths up to Topkapi Palace (coupled with the hilly terrain) can be extremely bumpy.
Power chairs, not manual chairs, can make the trek. But on all other surfaces in the park, any type of mobility device can function just fine.
Take note if you’re disabled.
Please visit Gulhane Park ASAP! It’s waiting for you!

Istanbul Birds Eye view
Yes, this 21st-century wonder is the largest mosque in Türkiye and one of the largest on Earth. Dazzling magnificence and 360 views of the metropolis and its great bridges.
Visible from almost every part of Istanbul the Çamlıca Mosque is a reason to visit the Anatolian side of the Bosphorus.
Able to hold 63,000+ people the mosque was completed in 2019 and sits high atop Çamlıca Hill in the Üsküdar district.
Busy during prayer times, but serene otherwise, pay attention to the spotless marble and glorious interior.
Love how they give you a bag to put your shoes into before placing them on the shoe rack.
There is even a gift shop for those seeking something unique.
Currently this is Istanbul’s largest place of worship.

Turkey: Sunset at Kaputas beach
If you are visiting a province of Türkiye Antalya, then #Kaputas beach is a must place to visit. It’s located just 10 minutes drive from the town of Kas. In summer make sure you come before 8am because after 9:30 it will be full of people. The water color is mesmerizing, also it is an official clear water place marked by the blue flag. So make sure you’ve got a snorkel with you for watching thousand of fish.
In summer the sun goes down behind the rock so you can’t see the sunset. But in winter the sunset is just in front of you and it’s just amazing.

Turkey: the longest beach Patara
#Patara is one of my favorite destinations in Antalya. Firstly it’s 18 km long beach. Secondly it’s a very important in 5 B.C. ancient Licyan city and port with its beautiful ruins. Thirdly it’s a small desert with huge dunes and an amazing sunset. And lastly it’s the place of birth of Saint Nicholas who is a very popular saint in Christian religion and recognized for most of us as Saint Nicolas or Santa Claus🎅🏼
Come here for one day and do these activities:
✔️spend sometime at the beach, walking along the endless shoreline;
✔️have lunch at the colorful Gelemiş village;
✔️walk around Patara ancient city, it will take at least 2 hours;
✔️find the road to the dunes and go there to watch the sunset there

Fethiye: the starting of the Lycian trail
We came to Fethiye from Kas to spend our weekend. The road took us 1,5 hour.
First thing we did was great big Turkish breakfast, which cost us twice cheaper than it would in Kas. There is a long promenade along the sea, cost with great variety of restaurants and cafés, so we chose on of them and it was good.
Later we walked towards the marine, the antic theater was on reconstruction so we couldn’t see much of it. Next to the ancient theater there is way up, which is also a starting off the ancient Lycian way to Antalya. By following this road, you can get to the ancient tombs, they are also called Tom of Amyntas and they definitely worse visiting.#turkiye #trip #fethiye #Ancient tombs
