The Iconic Hong Kong Tram: A Ride Through History
The Hong Kong tramway, affectionately known as the "Ding Ding," is one of the city’s most iconic and charming modes of transport. Operating since 1904, it’s not just a means of getting around but also a moving piece of history.
One of the most fascinating features of these trams is their double-decker design. These two-story trams were introduced to maximize passenger capacity on Hong Kong's narrow and busy streets. They remain the only fully double-decker tram system in the world, offering passengers unique views of the city from the top deck.
Riding the tram is incredibly affordable, with fares averaging just $0.30–$0.50 USD per trip, making it a budget-friendly way to explore. The trams are also known for their bright and colorful exteriors, often wrapped in eye-catching advertisements that add vibrancy to the streets of Hong Kong.
The tram system runs exclusively on the northern side of Hong Kong Island, connecting key districts like Central, Wan Chai, and Causeway Bay. It's not just practical but also environmentally friendly, as it’s entirely powered by electricity.
Hop aboard, grab a seat on the upper deck, and enjoy the slow-paced ride through Hong Kong's bustling streets—it’s a must-try experience that blends tradition with modernity.

🇸🇬 Traveling to Singapore on a budget? 4 travel hacks for your next trip
#travelhacks
Traveling to Singapore on a budget is entirely possible with some savvy planning. Here are essential travel hacks to help you save money while exploring this vibrant city-state:
1. Leverage Public Transport: Singapore’s public transport system is efficient, economical, and well-connected. Use Google Maps to find bus routes and timings, making it easy to navigate the city like a local. The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system is particularly convenient for reaching major attractions, shopping centers, and cultural spots quickly and cheaply.
2. Dine at Hawker Centres: For authentic and affordable meals, head to any of Singapore’s famous hawker centres. These food hubs offer a wide array of dishes that are wallet-friendly and reflect the city’s rich culinary diversity. You can enjoy everything from Hainanese chicken rice to chili crab without breaking the bank. Some famous hawker centre: Satay by the Bay, Newton Food Centre, Maxwell Food Centre and Lau Pa Sat
3. Visit Free Attractions: Singapore boasts numerous free-to-visit attractions that are both interesting and Instagram-worthy. Explore the iconic Gardens by the Bay, which offers free entry to its outdoor gardens. The Marina Bay Sands boardwalk is perfect for a scenic stroll, offering spectacular views of the city skyline. Don’t miss out on the cultural-rich neighborhoods like Little India and Chinatown, where you can soak in the heritage and culture without a ticket.
4. Shop at Instagrammable Malls: For a more scenic shopping experience, visit The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. Not only does it offer a range of high-end boutiques and dining options, but its architecture and location by the water also make it an Instagrammable hotspot. Funan Mall is also another mall that is nicely designed.
By focusing on these budget-friendly tips—utilizing public transport, eating at hawker centres, visiting free attractions, and exploring picturesque shopping malls—you can enjoy a memorable trip to Singapore without a hefty price tag.

🇹🇭 Bangkok - one of the world’s most visited city - Worth it? ✨
🇹🇭✨ From the grandeur of the Grand Palace to the enchanting Wat Arun, every corner of this city tells a story of tradition, beauty, and spirituality. The architectures represents its unique meanings and interesting stories that would make you would dive into knowing more deeply.
And what’s a trip to Thailand without indulging in its world-famous cuisine? 🍲🍜 From savory boat noodles at Thong Smith CentralWorld (the must-have first meal after you land in Bangkok), another famous local Thai restaurant at CentralWorld called “Ros’’niyom” to the authentic Pad Thai and the milky taste Thailand’s signature desert “Mango Sticky Rice” 😋 at Pad Thai Mae Thong Bai, which locates around Siam Square (the shopping blocks surrounded by foods, arts, and many interesting fashion shops).
Bangkok’s food scene is a culinary adventure that suits every traveler, whether you’re a foodie at heart or a budget explorer looking for delicious bites that won’t break the bank.
How about a great place to stay? There are many many options for the budget travelers or backpacker to search up for such a great deal on trip.com. For me, personally I like to stay at Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Siam and iBis Bangkok Siam as both of the hotels are located at the heart of Bangkok city with a great deal on this platform. The location is just a few steps away from the BTS skytrain, which is the best transportation to get around since the city has quite traffic congestions most of the time (since it is very populated with both locals and tourists). And the location of both of my favorite hotels is just a few meters away from the Bangkok’s most popular shopping malls (CentralWorld, Siam Paragon, Siam Square, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, Gaysorn Amarin, BigC, Pratunam, and many more). The best deal I got from and the benefits are both worth it and made my trip a pleasurable and most memorable ones. ❤️
I would say “YESS IT’S WORTH THE VISIT AND EVERY PENNY I SPENT THERE” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rice Field View at Hoi An Field Boutique
Visiting Hoi An in early September, you'll be greeted by the serene sight of green rice fields at Hoi An Field Boutique Resort. With rates starting at just 750,000 VND per night, this resort offers a budget-friendly stay.
What I really enjoyed here were the beautiful rooms, fully equipped with amenities, and surrounded by lush, green landscapes. The swimming pool, though small, is impeccably clean, and you can order cocktails or beers to enjoy poolside. There are also a few gym machines available for those who like to stay active. Breakfast is simple, with limited options, but sufficient for a start to the day. As for the service, it's basic and not highly professional, but given the price, it's more than adequate.
Located just 2.5 km from the center of Hoi An Ancient Town, you can make use of the resort’s free bicycles to ride through the rice fields on your way to explore the town. This place is a peaceful and scenic retreat.

🇮🇩 Hot Spring at Aek Rangat, Lake Toba
Aek Rangat is a well-known hot spring located on Samosir Island in Lake Toba, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Situated on the western shore of Samosir Island, Aek Rangat offers beautiful views of Lake Toba and the surrounding landscape. The hot springs at Aek Rangat are naturally heated by geothermal activity. The mineral-rich waters are believed to have therapeutic properties and provide a relaxing experience.
The larger bath house was not open during my visit. The guide brought me to a small restaurant next to it which had a tiny pool with hotspring water. Aek Rangat offers a natural and rustic experience so the facilities are basic. It would be good to bring your own supplies.

🇮🇩 Stay in Traditional Batak house in Hotel Tuk-Tuk Timbul by Lake Toba
During my visit to Samosir Island, I spent two nights in a traditional Batak house. Despite the lack of air conditioning, the nights were comfortably cool. I had expected many mosquitoes but was pleasantly surprised to find very few. Overall, it was a delightful stay.
Ambiance/Facilities:
The room offered basic amenities, without a TV or air conditioning.
Highlights:
The most striking feature was the magnificent view of Lake Toba right at my doorstep. I woke up early to catch the stunning sunrise, which was truly breathtaking.
Value:
The stay was budget-friendly, making it an excellent choice for travelers looking for an affordable option.
Rating: 4/5
One drawback was the absence of a kettle in the room. Instead, the hotel provided a thermos of hot water, which was available for a charge of 15k per bottle.

🇮🇩 Sunrise on Lake Toba @ Samosir Island
Lake Toba is a tranquil haven located in the northern part of Sumatra, Indonesia. It is one of the largest volcanic lakes in the world formed by a massive volcanic eruption approximately 74,000 years ago. It spans about 1,145 square kilometers and reaches depths of up to 505 meters.
The lake's serene and picturesque setting is complemented by Samosir Island, which lies in the middle of Lake Toba. Samosir Island itself is almost as large as Singapore and is known for its traditional Batak culture, scenic landscapes, and charming villages. During my stay in Samosir Island, I had the chance to experience breathtaking sunrise on the lake right outside my hotel room by the lake.

🇮🇩 From Medan to Lake Toba by Bus
Taking public transport from Medan to Lake Toba may not be the most comfortable and convenient way but it is definitely doable. I took a local bus from Amplas bus terminal in Medan to Parapat. It was a 4 hours ride from Medan to Parapat through winding and narrow roads especially towards the end of the ride. As my hotel was located along the main road, I asked the bus driver to drop me off at my hotel but unfortunately he dropped me at the wrong hotel so I had to walk around 2 km to my hotel. 🇮🇩 Parhallow Viewpoint overlooking Lake Toba, Samosir Island
We stopped by Parhallow Viewpoint and Coffee Shop for lunch during the tour around Samosir Island, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The viewpoint is about 7 km and 15 min drive from Tomok Ajibata Port. It is a scenic spot and coffee shop which offers breathtaking views of Lake Toba, one of the largest volcanic lakes in the world formed by a massive volcanic eruption approximately 74,000 years ago. The restaurant serves simple local delicacies and a variety of beverages, including locally sourced coffee and tea. There was a coffee plant right next to our table which my guide pointed out to me.

🇮🇩 Lakes Within a Lake, Samosir Island
I got the opportunity to visit two lakes within a lake during my tour around Samosir Island. The concept of "lakes within a lake" refers to smaller lakes situated on islands that are themselves located within a larger lake. This unique geographical feature is present in Lake Toba, North Sumatra, Indonesia, which contains two notable smaller lakes on Samosir Island: Lake Sidihoni and Lake Aek Natonang. Both lakes are surrounded by lush greenery and offer a tranquil and picturesque setting. The calm waters and natural surroundings provide a perfect spot for relaxation and photography.

🇮🇩 Stroll around Tuk-Tuk, Samosir
Tuktuk Siadong is a small village is located in a small cape in Samosir Island. I arrived in Samosir Island at noon. After checking in to my hotel, I decided to explore Tuk-Tuk on foot since I had no other means of transport. The village was about 2 km from my hotel. There were many hotels in Tuk-Tuk. Some of the hotels facing Lake Toba had private beach and nice views of the lake.
I bought some souvenirs at few of the souvenir shops in Tuk-Tuk. Many shops sell wooden sculptures of batak houses. Do get some
keychains of batak houses for your loved ones

🇮🇩 Ferry Rides between Parapat and Samosir, Lake Toba
There are a few ferry terminals in Parapat offering ferry services to different locations in Samosir Island. The hotel staff dropped me off at the newly built Pelabuhan Ajibata. The new ferry terminal seemed to offer higher-end ferry services to tourists and I was told that there was no ferry available that day. The staff I approached at the new ferry terminal directed me to a small port next to it. That's the port where locals take local ferries to and fro Samosir.
And so I boarded the local ferry from Pelabuhan Ajibata to Tomok (Rp 12,000). The ferry runs regularly so there is no need to buy tickets in advance. The ferry conductor will collect ticket fees from the passengers one by one.
The ferry looked quite old and rundown but no complaints since the fare was so cheap. There was no air-conditioning too. There were also vendors selling snacks on the ferry.
I sat at the open deck to immerse myself in the beauty of Lake Toba and took lots of pictures! It's definitely an eye-opening experience for me. One should try to take the local ferry instead of the premium ferry for a truly local experience in Lake Toba regions!

🇮🇩 Stay in Parapat by Lake Toba
I spent one night at Gapura Hotel in Parapat, a small town in North Sumatra on the edge of Lake Toba, before taking a ferry to Samosir Island the following day. My hotel room was facing the lake and the view of Lake Toba was priceless.
The hotel is situated along the main road. The view of Lake Toba along the road was amazing! However the road conditions were bad. There was literally no space for pedestrians to walk. I felt quite unsafe walking on the road as I had to walk very close to the edge to avoid being run over by passing vehicles and constantly keep a look out for vehicles behind me. There were many stalls and small restaurants along the main road. Most of them offer a very nice view of Lake Toba and the prices were cheap.

🇮🇩 Dining by Lake Toba in Parapat
Parapat is a charming town located in North Sumatra, Indonesia, on the eastern shore of Lake Toba, one of the largest volcanic lakes in the world. Known for its scenic beauty and relaxed atmosphere, Parapat serves as a popular gateway to Samosir Island, which is situated in the middle of Lake Toba. During my stay in Parapat, I enjoyed dining at one the many restaurants situated along the main road. The restaurants are mostly stalls in wooden huts. Most of them offer a very nice view of Lake Toba and the prices were cheap.

Visiting the City of Lights can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be.
The best way to see the city is on foot, and it’s totally FREE! Almost every single street has charming buildings or leads you to an iconic view of all those places you’ve heard about: the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, or Norte Dame.
Strolling along, you have the chance to see real Parisian life: the bakeries and cheese shops, the green grocers and cafes. Then, when you’re tired after a long day of walking, hop on the metro back to your hotel. It’s extensive and very affordable.
Sights to add to your free walking tour:

Dazzling Dubai on a budget
#dubaitrip
Dubai is a city of superlatives. Home to the world’s tallest building, largest mall, and biggest Ferris Wheel, Dubai if full of opportunities for entertainment. Some activities come at a steep price, but there’s plenty to see for free over a long weekend this winter.
Free activity ideas:
🇦🇪 Go see the Museum of the Future. In our opinion, the most beautiful building in the world. This torus shaped building can be seen from the train line near Burj Khalifa. Exit the metro at the Museum of the Future Station to walk through a unique tunnel and see it’s equally impressive lobby. Tickets to exhibits are around 40 USD, but seeing the lobby and exterior are free!
🇦🇪Hop back on the train to Burj Khalifa. Follow signs toward the Burj fountains to get this iconic view of the world’s tallest skyscraper. If you want to take a break, there are numerous restaurants surrounding the fountains with great views of the Burj. Stick around until after the sun goes down to see a fountain show. As of December 2023, they begin every half hour from 18:00-23:00.
🇦🇪 After the fountain show, eat dinner next door in the Dubai Mall, the world’s largest! While not a free activity, you’ll want to get some rest after a long day on your feet. There are dozens of restaurants to choose from, ranging from fast food to fine dining. We headed for the Chinatown section of the mall to eat at Haidilao and get snacks from the Chinese food court.
🇦🇪The next day, take a stroll through old Dubai to see the gold souks. If time permits, see if you can take the ferry to Downtown Dubai. We missed the last one, but for only 14 USD, you can get a 90 minute sightseeing cruise past the Palm and Dubai’s glitzy skyline.
🇦🇪 End day 2 at JBR beach for dinner and a drone show. This holiday season, Dubai puts on a drone show at 20:00 and 22:00 each night. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. Going after December? There won’t be a drone show, but check out the lights on the world’s tallest Ferris Wheel!
It’s twice the height of the London Eye!

Grindelwald: A crime if you miss it!
Get here by train! We came via Basel and just enjoyed the scenic views from the huge train windows. Lake, villages, mountains, you won’t want to close your eyes!
Coming here in early autumn, we escaped the crowds and could explore First, Eiger, and Jungfraujoch with ease and little wait time. The mountains are magnificent all thru the year! The colours of the landscape will change and hiking to the Balchapsee is an experience in itself. Discovering WCs in the middle of nowhere, up
in the mountains, complete with toilet tissue is something only the Swiss can guarantee!
There are many hotels in this little village and all are within walking distance of the train station. We stayed at the Eiger Aparthotel as we wanted to prepare our own meals to save cost. Bookings come with daily afternoon tea and the variety of cakes, teas and coffees were an absolute treat!
There are many cafes around for fondue and all sorts of local delights. We opted to explore the two supermarkets for raw ingredients and cooked up our own dinners at a fraction of the cost of eating out. Do check out the different yogurt flavours, types of cheese, and cured meats too!
As it is a tourist destination, you can get souvenirs and major brands here. There is a post office (to send postcards) and some banks if you need forex.
My #2023travelwish is to drop by this beautiful place again in the SUMMER and take in the wonders of creation ❤️

🚲 Cycling around Anuradhapura
The UNESCO world heritage site of Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka is justifiably famous, but sadly the extortionate ticket prices put it out of our budget. Instead, we enjoyed a lovely day cycling around the less famous ancient temples centred around a beautiful tank (reservoir) to the south of the main park.
One of my favourite things to do when travelling is to hop on a bike and explore on two wheels. Anuradhapura is pretty flat so it's easy to cycle around, and you get a much more local experience, while also saving money/ hassle on tuktuks.

From Medan to Lake Toba by public transport
#celebratewithtrip
I took the local bus from Amplas bus terminal in Medan to Parapat. (Rp 60,000) If you are taking the bus from Kualanamu Airport to Medan city (Rp40,000), take note that the bus may not stop right at Amplas bus station. I had to ask the bus driver to stop in the middle of the road and walked 20 min to the bus terminal. I think the new bus terminal is still under construction as of September 2022. The current terminal is made up of a few pondoks (stalls). No facilities there.
There were many stalls and small restaurants along the main road. Most of them offer a very nice view of Lake Toba and the prices were cheap. The lake view from my room in Gapura Hotel was superb too!
