Chasing the traces of ancient dynasties in Guilin
#100waysoftravel
From Xiashan park to the Sun and Moon Pagoda in the city centre, there is so much to much explore along the old town of Guilin. Start with the scenic Karst mountain lookouts in the AAAA location or Xiashan, get on a #Helloride bike and cycle your way alongside the canals in the inner city. The South Gate makes for a photogenic stopover, afterwards proceed to the ##elephanttrunkhill to capture that iconic shot that‘s the signature of one of the most renowned tourist destinations in China.
Elephant Trunk Hill (Guilin)
This landmark of Guilin offers great views of the city. Enter the park and to your left you can get views of the elephant trunk hill (with its trunk in the water). To the left, you ascend the stairs to get to the top of the elephant for magnificent views of Guilin and the Li river. Be sure to use the bathroom at the entrance as there are no opportunities along the way or at the top of the hill. Take water with. There are benches at the top of the hill to rest. Be sure to wander around and find the little cave where you can see the trunk from the other side (Some call this the eye of the elephant). The entire trip should not take more than an hour. This attraction is free and can be done at your own leisure.

Escape to a peaceful paradise: Guilin, China
Overall - This hotel was absolutely perfect for our one night transition from arriving to the airport to exploring the beauty of Guilin. The room was so well put together with beautiful interior design that provided a calm and peaceful environment. Beds were very comfortable, the amenities were impressive, the rooms was incredibly clean, and the L’occtaine body wash was a major plus! :)
Breakfast - Our room included breakfast which was delicious. We ordered the western set the night before. It arrived with many options of food from American and English influence. Hash browns were a 10/10.
Getting There - About a 45 minute drive from the Guilin International Airport.
Attractions - We visited the Sun and Moon Pagodas which are located directly outside of the hotel’s entrance! Elephant Trunk Hill is also within walking distance of the hotel and is a beautiful hike with lush scenery.
Food & Restaurants - We ate at a delicious Indian restaurant located just around the corner called ‘Kali Mirch Indian Cuisine’. I think it may have been the best Indian food I’ve had so far in my three years living in China. HIGHLY recommend! :)

101Guide: Guilin Elephant Trunk Hill 象鼻山 in 60mins
#100waysoftravel #elephanttrunkhill #guilin
👀 Introduction:
The Elephant 🐘 Trunk Hill 象鼻山 is FREE for all to enter but tourists will need to scan a QR code at the entrance before allowing entry. It is located near the city 🏙️ at the north of Guilin City, and is one of the hottest attractions 🏖️ and landmark in Guilin. Legend has it that the Guilin folks believe that it is the embodiment of an Elephant God that got separated from the Emperor 👑 during war but got stranded in Guilin. Well, that's just a myth probably.
🏖️ The Attraction:
Before reaching the entrance of Elephant 🐘 Trunk Hill, we were greeted with a long stretch of flea-market like book fair which we spent 15mins looking around. There's arts 🎨 & crafts stuffs, books 📚 and other interesting items for sale here. However, do note that the place is especially crowded 👬 during the afternoon.
The main feature here is a natural formation of rocks protruding from the cliff which resembles an elephant trunk (hence the name). It's a pretty Instagrammable 📸 spot but be prepared to fight your way through for a good spot as you will be amongst the hundreds of tourist doing the same.
Besides the Elephant 🐘 Trunk, there are also various activities such as the a boat 🛥️ ride around the hill which I think is the best way to fully appreciate the scenic landscape or just appreciate what mother nature has created here. There are also musicians 🎶 doing gigs here which is pretty cool. We especially like the one that modified his guitar 🎸 using different parts - including a large water 💦 container...cool.
🔚 Conclusion
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 4/5
The place is relaxing and we really enjoyed ourselves here (especially when the entrance fee is FREE ☺️). It would have scored a higher rating if the place wasn't that super crowded, coz we spent most time dodging other tourist instead of appreciating the place. Finally, there are also lots of market and souvenir shops around. So give it a try.. It's FREE anyway 😉.
