Exploring the Charm of Kennedy Town
Kennedy Town, a historic neighborhood on the western edge of Hong Kong Island, offers a unique blend of old-world charm and modern vibrancy. An island tour of Kennedy Town reveals a rich tapestry of culture, history, and natural beauty, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking to experience the multifaceted essence of Hong Kong.
Kennedy Town’s history dates back to the mid-19th century when it was established as a residential and commercial hub. Named after the seventh governor of Hong Kong, Sir Arthur Kennedy, this area was originally a sleepy fishing village. Today, it retains traces of its colonial past, with old buildings and narrow lanes that tell stories of a bygone era.
In recent years, Kennedy Town has undergone significant transformation, thanks to the extension of the MTR Island Line, which has brought new life to the area. The neighborhood is now a hip, trendy enclave with a growing expatriate community. Stylish cafes, boutique shops, and art galleries have sprung up, blending seamlessly with the older establishments. This juxtaposition of the old and new makes Kennedy Town a fascinating place to explore. Visitors can enjoy a cup of artisanal coffee while watching elderly locals practice tai chi in the nearby park, a scene that perfectly encapsulates the harmonious coexistence of tradition and modernity.

🏝️🇲🇺 Sail to Ile Aux Cerfs
#islandtours #100WaysOfTravel
Come with me on a catamaran at Ile Aux Cerfs, the most desirable private island to visit in Mauritius. The only way is by the sea and you can hire a catamaran for the best island tour. There are also several luxurious hotels around here and you can only arrive here via boat. The best and most economical way is to join a day tour and choose the catamaran option with BBQ lunch and drinks. All life jackets and snorkel equipment are included and you can swim freely during rest stops. I was caught in a traffic jam on my way to the jetty so I took a small boat and went to meet the catamaran when they stopped for snorkeling. You have to visit this beautiful island at least once in your lifetime.

🏝️🇲🇺 Ile Aux Cerf tour on a crystal glass bottom boat
#islandtours #100WaysOfTravel
Come with me to witness the most beautiful crystal clear ocean in Indian ocean. If you cannot swim or snorkel then you can consider hiring this crystal glass bottom boat to go on an island tour. The ocean is clear and not too deep because of the sand bank, so you can see many live corals in the ocean and these coral are still very colourful. The prices are in Mauritian rupees and you can negotiate the price with the boatman. In Mauritius, both French and English are spoken and there is no communication problems. The boatman also provide life jackets and snorkel equipment for free too. I will suggest a maximum of 45 minutes to 1 hour is good enough for this quick island tour.

Oleron Island Tour
#islandtours
Oleron island offers more than what typical islands do. The experience here goes beyond just turquoise water, sunny weather and the usual sell. On the contrary, Oleron is more about the nature, flaura and fauna, the artistic huts seen across the island and the watersports of surfing and sand Yachting. You do get your sandy beach to swim or sunbathe in the form of beaches like Saint Trojan. So it covers all grounds.
I stayed in a cosy accomodation very near Port de la continiere and the location served me perfectly well. I would walk to the beach and for a change I wanted to experience the stay near a traditional fishing harbour. There are benches where people sit for hours, eat fish and chips and soak in the view. Plus, I can't tell you enough how memorable my sea food experiences were in Oleron islands.
In terms of activities, I had nice day trips around the island to places like porte des salines for the salt marshes. There was the eco museum where one tours a series of huts. We even took a tour on the boat that explore this 2km area nicely for about an hour. Visited the oyster farming village of Fort Royer. The village of Boyardville which has one of the best beaches. The next day was filled with several interesting activities like the town of Saint Pierre and Oleron chateau. It continued to be a mix of so many experiences and it is what sets Oleron island apart from the regular islands one goes to for holidays. Highly recommended! #beachlife #island #cafe #restaurant #vacation #trip
Marseille - Halfday Island Tour
#islandtours
If you are in Marsellie you must have definitely heard about the prision island or if you have read the classic count of Monte cristo. This will interest you very much. It's a popular half day tour to the island.
In my case I had the benefit of a Marseille card. And this boat ride is included in that. (By the ways on a side note, this Marseille pass is highly recommended as it not only includes the boat ride but also the petite train ride and 24 hours of public transport usage.)
It's a wonderful fort and then the view all the way along was spectacular. You could easily spend half an hour or more at the fort. There is a beach too with rocks. The boat is every hour. At the site there is a cafe and restaurant as well. But the prices are terrible. I would recommend carrying something to eat and drink. You could even have a picnic on the island!
