Punting Through the Knowledge Town: Discovering Cambridge’s Charm
Cambridge, known for its world-renowned university, offers a unique and serene way to explore the town—punting along the River Cam. While punting may look similar to kayaking or rowing, it has its own distinct style and charm, and it’s a quintessential experience in this historic town.
What is Punting? Punting involves propelling a flat-bottomed boat using a long pole. As you glide along the river, you’ll pass under ancient stone bridges, alongside lush green meadows, and have stunning views of Cambridge’s iconic colleges.
Punting gives you a fresh perspective of the town. You’ll float by famous landmarks like King’s College Chapel, the Bridge of Sighs, and The Backs—a picturesque area where you can see the back facades of the most beautiful university buildings. It’s a peaceful escape from the bustling streets, and you can either take a guided tour or try your hand at punting yourself!
As you punt through Cambridge, you’re surrounded by centuries of academic history. Founded in 1209, Cambridge University has produced countless famous alumni, including Sir Isaac Newton and Stephen Hawking. The town’s scholarly atmosphere is palpable, and punting provides a relaxing yet intellectually enriching way to soak in the town’s legacy.
Punting is not just a tourist activity; it’s a beloved local tradition. Students and visitors alike have enjoyed this leisurely pastime for generations. Whether you're visiting Cambridge for the first time or a local, punting on the Cam offers a magical way to experience the town’s rich history and natural beauty.

Day trip from London to Cambridge❤️
If you want to explore nearby places in London, then try to visit Cambridge! I guess it’s just only 2 hrs away from London. The buildings were quite old but well maintained! I love how people take care of these. It’s not just about the infrastructures but they are also trying to preserve the history within.
Don’t forget to include punting on your list!
It’s a must try, I swear! #cambridge #punting #boat
Exploring Canterbury by boat
#celebratewithtrip #unitedkingdom #canterbury #punting
Exploring Canterbury by boat is one of the must dos whilst in the town.
Hopefully you will be there on a sunny day or at least not a rainy day and will get the chance to hop on a boat.
The prices are not that cheap to be honest. You get this for around £18 per person. Usually they do student discounts but not significant ones.
Haggle and try to agree on a better price. Enjoy!

Here you can see our punter who was telling us more about the history of Canterbury and was training his muscles rowing around.
It was 7 of us in the boat and this guy was rather small but hey, well done to him for taknig us on a boat trip on the river. At times it looked difficult for him but we all cheered him.
The view from the boat were also very nice, have a look for yourself.

Punting is fun, would recommend.
We had a nice punter who was knowledgable about Canterbury and also had some nice jokes. Usually it's a job that many University students do in their free time.
The boat trip took around 1 hour and it was an enjoyable one.
There were some low bridges that we had to go under but that was part of the fun :)

Punting in Cambridge

We went punting when in Cambridge and it's something you absolutely must do. It's essentially a boat trip with a person (punter) who pushes the boat against the river bed with a pole.
A punt is a flat-bottomed boat with a square-cut bow, designed for use in small rivers or other shallow water.
A great experience and definitey one to try. We have also gone punting in Canterbury :)
Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) A Boat Ride On River Cam
Do you know you can do a boat ride along river cam in Cambridge, where thebkocals actually call it punting. This is where you will rent a guy to stand behind the boat and use a long oar to push the boat along the waters, just like what you see in Venice. Almost similar I shall say.
The best area for punting is at the upper cam river. Each ride should take you from 45mins to almost an hour, and definitely one of a romantic river ride especially in the calm waters and nice cold weather.
