Beautiful Wenhai Lake in Lijiang Yunnan
#chinatrip
Wenhai Lake, situated on the southern slope of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in Lijiang, Yunnan, is a seasonal alpine lake and wetland at an elevation of approximately 3,100 meters
I went to Wenhai Lake in summer, the atmosphere is a vibrant, lush grazing land surrounded by meandering streams and blooming wildflowers. Nestled on the southern slope of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the lake basin becomes a breathtaking expanse of greenery, attracting herds of livestock and showcasing many of species of rhododendrons in full bloom.

2 days in Kunming, Yunnan
Day 1
After checking into our budget hotel we walked to Green Lake to find food and to walk around.
🥐Bon Appetito Bakery - buy a Chocolate Toast
We walked to Nanping Pedestrian Street and Old Kunming Road and ate Wild Mushroom Hotpot, a Yunnan traditional meal.
Day 2
We got a didi to Shilin Stone Forrest (360 RMB each way) and spent the morning there. If you are looking for peace and quiet venture away from the Major Stone forest to the outskirts of the scenic area for equally beautiful scenery without the crowds.
We returned to Kunming to Dianchi Lake and walked alongside the lake. It was Sunday and very busy. We continued walking to the Yunnan Nationalities Village which we loved. It was quiet and there was lots to see.
We took a didi to the Lost Garden restaurant and then walked back to the hotel.

Whispers of the Wind: The Sacred Beauty of Tibetan Prayer Flags in Shangri-La
#chinatrip#yunnan #shangrila
In Shangri-La, I was amazed by the sight of the Tibetan prayer flags, known as *Lungta* in Tibetan. These colorful flags—composed of red, yellow, white, green, and blue—are a common yet profound feature of Tibetan culture. Printed with intricate Tibetan script, they are often mistaken for mere decorations due to their vibrant colors. The name *Lungta* carries a deeper meaning: "Lung" refers to wind, while "Ta" means horse, symbolizing the "wind horse" that carries prayers far and wide. Typically hung on mountaintops, around white stupas, or near incense-burning platforms, the flags flutter endlessly in the wind. The origin of prayer flags stems from the Tibetan people's desire to extend their prayers beyond the confines of location and time. Unable to constantly pray in temples, they found a way to harness the power of nature—printing teachings of the Buddha or prayers from spiritual leaders onto flags. As the wind rustles the flags, these blessings and prayers are carried across the earth, spreading good fortune and peace for all beings. This simple yet profound practice left me deeply moved, a reminder of the Tibetan people's unwavering faith and their beautiful connection to nature.
Faith and Unity: Experiencing Tibetan Culture in Shangri-La
#chinatrip #yunnan
In Shangri-La, we visited the culturally rich Guishan Park and took part in turning the massive prayer wheel, which requires the collective effort of thirty people to set it in motion. As the prayer wheel slowly turned, we could feel the power of faith, as though every rotation carried our wishes to the heavens. Later, we gathered in the ancient town square, joining the locals in a joyful Tibetan dance. Despite the thin, oxygen-deprived air of the plateau, there was no shortage of devotion and vibrant spirit. The unique charm of Tibetan culture and the serene atmosphere of this land left us with a profound sense of peace and awe.
Tranquil Beauty: A Serene Morning on Putatso National Park’s Youyou Trail
#chinatrip #yunnan
In early November, we visited the Youyou Trail at Putatso National Park, where the morning greeted us with freezing temperatures below zero. Despite the biting cold, we were the only two who ventured down to walk this peaceful trail. The serene beauty of the path unfolded before us, with a crystal-clear river meandering gently alongside, its surface shimmering in the soft light of the morning. The stillness of the surroundings, broken only by the occasional whisper of the wind and the murmur of the water, made it feel as though we had stepped into a tranquil, untouched world. The crisp air and the solitude heightened our senses, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the quiet charm of this hidden gem.
Kunming's Must-Visit: Yunnan Ethnic Village Experience
#chinatrip
Visiting Yunnan Ethnic Village in Kunming was like stepping into a world of diverse traditions and colors. This isn’t just a park – it’s an adventure through the cultures of 26 ethnic groups in Yunnan Province, each with unique stories to share.
From the moment I walked through the grand archway, I felt transported. Vibrant signs and traditional architecture welcomed me. Every corner of the village told a story, from the intricate wood carvings to the colorful decorations. It felt like I was traveling through history.
I explored Achang Village, where I learned about their unique way of life. The traditional wooden houses were cozy and beautifully preserved, and I could almost feel the spirit of the community through their displays. I even watched a lively performance showcasing their traditional dance – a true celebration of culture!
The Jingpo Village was another highlight. The architecture, with its sturdy bamboo and wood designs, felt both rustic and elegant. Inside, I saw everyday items like tools and pots that gave me a glimpse of life in their community.
One of my favorite parts? The performances! Watching dancers in colorful traditional costumes twirling to rhythmic music was mesmerizing. The energy of their movements and the pride in their heritage were truly inspiring. I even got to try on some of the costumes – a fun way to connect with the culture!
Walking through the lush greenery of the village was calming. Bridges over small streams and colorful flowers made it feel like I was in a fairy tale. Every corner of the park was perfect for photos, so my camera definitely got a workout!
If you're in Kunming, this is a must-visit spot! It’s not just about sightseeing; it’s about experiencing the rich cultures of Yunnan in one place. I left feeling inspired, and it reminded me of the beauty of embracing diversity.

Ganden Sumtseling Monastery: Experiencing the Sacred Beauty of Tibet
#chinatrip #yunnan #shangrila #gandenmonastery
Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, often called the "Little Potala Palace," enchanted us with its grand architecture and solemn atmosphere. Nestled in the mountains near Shangri-La, this monastery radiates a tranquil and sacred vibe that left us in awe. Walking through its magnificent halls and admiring the intricate murals, we felt deeply immersed in Tibetan Buddhist culture. The golden rooftops gleamed in the sunlight, while colorful prayer flags danced in the crisp mountain air, adding to its spiritual charm.
Inside, the Tibetan Buddhist statues are the most magnificent and enormous I’ve ever encountered. Photography and wearing hats are strictly prohibited in all temple halls, but this only heightened the reverence of the experience. We scanned these awe-inspiring artworks with our eyes, letting the memories etch themselves deeply into our hearts.
Tip: Respect the rules and savor the moment—this awe-inspiring place invites reflection, offering a profound sense of peace that will stay with you long after your visit.
Wangu Tower: The Best Night View Spot in Lijiang
#chinatrip #lijiang #yunnan
Wangu Tower, located in the Lion Hill Scenic Area is the best spot to admire Lijiang's breathtaking night view. If visiting after 6:30 PM, be sure to navigate to the East Gate instead of the North Gate, as the latter closes after this time. We were thrilled to discover it stays open until 10 PM when we passed by after dinner, and we quickly booked our tickets on Trip.com. Perched at the highest point of Lion Hill Park, the tower offers panoramic views of Lijiang’s dazzling lights. Inside, captivating murals of Naxi mythology kept us thoroughly engaged, making this visit unforgettable.
Meili Snow Mountain Wunongding Viewing Platform
#chinatrip #yunnan #shangrila #meilisnowmountain
Wunongding is a hidden gem and a stunning viewing platform for Meili Snow Mountain, located along the old 214 National Highway. It sits at a higher elevation than Feilai Temple, offering a more expansive and closer view of the snow-capped peaks. Situated about 20 kilometers from Feilai Temple, it is easily accessible via navigation. The advantages include being less crowded, offering unobstructed views, and providing a unique perspective where Feilai Temple can serve as the foreground, creating a striking contrast between the grand snow mountain and the small town. However, the drawbacks are limited and more expensive options for accommodation and dining, as well as the lack of public transportation, requiring either carpooling or private car hire. Overall, it is an ideal spot for self-driving travelers or those with a generous budget.

Its architecture blends Tibetan, Nepalese, and Indian influences, showcasing vibrant murals, grand temples, and intricate carvings.
