Fenghuang Ancient Town
If you are planning to visit Zhangjiajie, make sure to include a trip to 'Fenghuang', the ancient riverside village by the Tuojiang River.
Fenghuang can be enjoyed both during the day and at night. During the day, it's quite relaxing, but when night falls, 'Fenghuang' transforms into a brightly lit town with colorful lights illuminating the bridges, houses, and shops, creating a completely different atmosphere from the daytime.
We recommend staying overnight here for at least one night, as the town is quite large and offers numerous photo opportunities.
🚄 Transportation: High-speed Train: Fenghuanggucheng Station. Once you arrive at the station, you can take a taxi or call a DiDi to take you to the ancient town.
Focus on: Ancient Town of Fenghuang
Fenghuang in China was a great stop for 2 days during my trip to Hunan. The town is so pretty, with its old wooden houses along the river. I loved walking through the narrow streets, exploring local shops, and along the embankment- that's where the best views are.
One tip: be prepared for crowds, especially during weekends. I was there during the week and still amount of people was impressive.

Discovering Zhangjiajie National Forest Park ! 🤗
We came here in mid November and temperature ranges between 7°C and 12°C. It can get a little chilly when it rains/ when the wind is strong, so it’s advisable to bring a down jacket and/or a windbreaker. Plenty of food options available within different locations of the attraction (not too pricey either) but taste is pretty average. If you’re picky, bring along some snacks. We started the tour from the South Gate at 8am and ended in the East Gate at 430pm, possible to finish all major attractions within a day.

Zhangjiajie -Pictures don’t do you justice!!! Breathing taking views!!!
I’ve been dreaming of visiting Zhangjiajie in Hunan for the past 5 years! I finally visited all the sites.
Zhangjiajie National Park (pic 2 and 5) consists of a few area and it’s absolutely huge- you can easily spend a couple of days here especially if you want to explore the beautiful park- however as I was pressed for time I only spent a day here and mostly visited the Wulingyuan scenic area.
However, my absolutely favourite has to be Tianmen Mountain- (pic 1,3,4) - truly, pictures can’t capture the beauty of this place. To get to the top, you take the cable car, which apparently is the "longest passenger cableway of high mountains in the world" - it ascends 1,279 m (4,196 ft)- I can only describe it as that your eyes are rewarded with magnificent views of blue skies (depending on the weather of course), luscious greenery and emerald coloured lakes as you are slowly transported up.
When you reach the top, you feel as if you are truly on top of the world. As you take a picture of the back drop of Tianmen Mountain (pic 3,4) - the literal translation is “sky door” mountain - meaning the door to heaven- I would say the description definitely fits it well!

An Ancient Village with a Waterfall in the midst of it
many of you may have seen videos on social platforms with the tagline "unreal places" - and this one is one of them. By the way, this place is real - It is Furongzhen or popularly known as Furong Ancient Town, aka virally known as Furong Waterfall Village.
Nighttime should be more epic with the lights effect, but I prefer to see things as it is and that is why, our videos do not have any special effects, and we took these videos as "what you see is what you get".
Other than lots of walking and struggling through several steep stairways to get to the highlight of this attraction, we have yo admit, this is indeed a nice place to visit. If you have the time, do stay in to get the daytime/nighttime effect.

The legendary Phoenix Ancient town in China!
Fenghuanggucheng, also known as Phoenix Ancient Town is a beautiful city situated at Xiangxi, Hunan, China. This place has hundreds of years of history and it embodies the modern with the ancient. Something you will not be able to find in other cities. We learnt the history of the city through many free exhibitions and it was really interesting to us.
As someone from the city, I enjoyed visiting and learning about places with long history.
Please come to Fenghuanggucheng if you are coming to hunan!#fenghuanggucheng #hunan #china #ancient

Zhangjiajie's Vibrant Underground Wonderland
Stepping into Yellow Dragon Cave (Huanglong Cave) in Zhangjiajie feels like entering a fairy tale. This isn't just a cave; it's a magical kingdom carved by nature itself, hidden deep in Hunan, China. Imagine towering stalactites and stalagmites meeting in the dim light, creating shapes and shadows that dance on the walls.
Now, think about seeing this marvel not just from the walkways inside but from a drone's eye view outside, capturing the cave's entrance and the lush greenery surrounding it. From above, the cave's mouth looks like a gateway to another world, nestled in a forest so vibrant, it's as if the whole landscape is alive.
Visiting Yellow Dragon Cave offers more than just a glimpse into nature's power; it's an invitation to see the world from new perspectives. It's a place where the beauty isn't just in the details but in how those details fit into the world around them. For anyone traveling to Zhangjiajie, the cave is a must-see, promising an adventure that's as breathtaking from the air as it is on the ground.

Gorgeous Avatar mountains (after rain)
Location: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Zhangjiajie, Hunan, China
Entrance fee: 227¥ (ticket + bus)
Date: July 19, 2022
Avatar mountains are incredible no matter how’s the weather. After the rain or on rainy days the scenery looks more beautiful and mysterious.
As it often rains here, you need to take a raincoat and an umbrella with you or buy them from small shops.
Here we can see a natural bridge, which unites 2 huge peaks. It looks really amazing. People also make wishes and tie them on the bridge.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is located in the northwestern part of the Hunan Province. It has become popular with tourists from both China and around the world. The park’s unique and stunning scenery has made it a must-visit destination for travelers.
On the way to the Bailong elevator, we can see lots of monkeys. As they’re wild animals, you need to be careful with them. Don’t eat or drink in front of them, otherwise they’ll grab your food😅
Btw Bailong elevator (Bai means hundred and long - dragon) is the tallest, heaviest and fastest outdoor elevator in the world. It is 326m and from the foot to the top we can get in less than 2 mins. The price for the elevator is 75¥ (one way).
It’s better to spend at least 2 days in the park. That would allow you to visit the must-see attractions and enjoy the scenery if the weather is rainy or foggy. As it’s a rainforest, the weather is mainly rainy here, so you need to choose a good time to admire this incredible view.

Hunan - The Jewel of China
This summer, I travelled to Hunan Province, which was one of the most beautiful places I’ve been in the world. The trip started in the capital, Changsha. Orange Island is well worth a visit, but also try some stinky tofu and milk tea. Then I went to mountains that inspired the first Avatar movie in Zhangjiajie. Try staying at the glass hotel for a remarkable, one of a kind stay. Truly a speculator and breathtaking place! Finally, I went to Fenghuang, which was absolutely breathtaking. The mountains, the rivers, the forests, the people, and the food truly made Hunan an amazing adventure this summer break. #summerbreak #hunan #changsha #zhangjiajie #fenghuang #glasshotel

Hallelujah mountain
Tianzi mountain
We came in late November so it was not crowded. I would say it was a perfect time to visit. We took the cable up and walked down. I recommend walking down as there are so many spots on the way to take pictures. There are quite a lot of stairs though mostly down but also up. By the way there is a full size MC Donald’s on top and after traveling for a while is was amazing to have a Mc chicken. I love Chinese food, but can not have it for all my meals.
Bailong Elevator
No lines to enter the lift. The whole ride does not take long however I did think it was worth it. It is breathtaking when you see the view from the lift. I enjoyed it. The ticket was 72 per person. On this top is the main atteaction in my opinion. The most amazing view, at the next shuttle stop.
Daguan platform
We let the shuttle drop us up here and fist we tough we were at the wrong place as we were completely alone, but as we kept walking we found the most amazing views. This is also said to be the best place to see the sunset. We did not make that but wish we would.
Wulong Zhai
We wanted to go to tianbofu however that was closed for renovation so we only walked to WulongZhai instead. Definitely worth the trip. Super nice view, some areas you have to climb and pass very narrow passageways but it made for some very cool pictures. Do not recommend big backpack for this road. Also the view from the bathroom sink alone the way was the best ever. Check my picture.
Golden whip brook
It is a magical walk. Almost no people, this walk by the river on mainly a flat area was very welcome after climbing the mountain for 2 days. Super nice resting areas and the park is really clean and neat. Toilets along the way. We also saw the wild monkey that mainly hang around the entrances as this are the places where they can find/get food. Most of the trail we were alone and it was amazing. It was more chill here as it is down in the walley.

A day out in Changsha, Hunan
Changsha is the capital city in Hunan and it's known as the "star city" due to the many TV show celebrities and influencers who make content in the city.
The traditional sites of Orange Island or Yuelu Mountain will always be popular places to visit, but Changsha is also known for it's delicious snacks.
I highly recommend heading to the downtown area, near Wuyi Square. There you will find an abundance of spicy snacks and Hunan restaurants. Some of the best dishes include stinky tofu 臭豆腐 and spicy crayfish 小龙虾

The Avatar Mountains of Hunan - ZhangJiaJie
If you've seen the Avatar movies, you will immediately recognize these mountain landscapes. No matter where you go, the views are breathtaking and unlike any other mountains I've ever seen.
I would recommend visiting the Tianmen Mountain, as it's easily one of the most famous landmarks. Take the escalators up (unless you've got enough energy to take the stairs) and you will be able to get some great pictures from the top. Then, I recommend walking down the steps slowly and take in the view.
Lots of other great sites. One piece of advice is to be extremely careful around the sites with monkeys. They will take your food and are likely to jump on you. Do not carry any food out in the open.

Hard to Capture !!! 😍 The most Amazing Mountains
I don't know how to describe the landscapes I had the chance to be in !! 🥲
No matter how many pictures/videos we see, it is another level when the environment swallows you in and you become part of it.
Sharp edges and spiky mountains, stairs and stairs to the top and relaxing rides on the cable cars
I recommend people climbing up the mountains and taking the cable cars down! feels like a reward after a tough day 😌 . I spent 3 days and that's enough to see pretty much the whole park! it is so convenient as the buses to link different spots saves you some time (and that is included in the National Park ticket price).
just go !!! 😆😆😆

Ancient Fairy Town
Spent a day in Fenghuang Ancient City and was mesmerized by this magical little town. I stayed in a beautiful room on the river with a balcony that overlooked all the activity. It was raining most of the time, but the mist just added more of a fairy-like atmosphere to the whole experience. There was plenty of street food, snacks, drinks to keep people fed while they are wandering through the alleys and checking out the scenery.

Shaoshan village - famous red tourism spot
I mostly prefer natural beauty but at some point anything can be "too much" 🤭 So while my friend opted for Sichuan I decided to go to Changsha to avoid high risk areas - covid map was my main guide this summer 🙄
When I started learning about Changsha main tourist attractions, I found out that most of them relate to communist party, so I just grabbed the chance, as for me that was something new and special (in China) . From logistics and cost point of view I decided to join a Chinese tour (hoping my Chinese improved since last year🤞.. Not so much😔 but anyway it's possible with any Chinese level, depending on your other skills, experience and target)
As for my tour most of the time we spent in the house and museum of Liu Shaoqi (impressive) as it was similar to Mao Zedong's but less crowded. Afternoon we went to Mao Zedong's house and then to memorial park. The trip was exactly what I needed: good timing and logistics, all information in the museums was provided both in Chinese and English and I learnt a lot on the internet on the way, too.
In the evening I also went to an open air performance which was good. I stayed overnight and had a nice hike over rural area in the morning.
Another 2 great days in Hunan!
Just make sure you book return ticket in advance if you go on your own (especially holiday season)

Fenghuang Ancient Town
Getting There - A short drive from Changsha or Zhangjiajie.
Ideal time - two days.
Spend time walking along the river, going through cobbled streets and eating the excellent rice noodles that are unique to Hunan.
Tip: Wake up early in the morning and walk along the river to see the misty fog and the men fishing.

a lifetime trip to the land of "Avatar"!
One my best place ls I've ever been to in China. Zhangjiajie national forest park is a must-visit. If you love nature then it's a must visit. Be sure to check the weather in advance, avoid the foggy and rainy weather to have a better view for the mountains. The park is damn huge, I'd say one day is not enough if you'd love explore the whole park (not necessary). I've been to all best places and vantage in just one day (thanks to my local colleagues I met, it was all by coincidence!) be ready for 15k steps 😎. Yuanjiajie is the most famous part in the park (where Avatar mountains are located). My favorite place to take photos was 武士驯马 (u can search it in Baidu maps), not many people knew about this part. #china #hunan #zhangjiajie #avatar #mountains #expatlife
